The food, drinks, and service were great! There was a short wait but we were able to snag some seats at the bar, and we got a table faster than predicted. We will definitely go back.
Wow, this is a superb burger joint with service and a tap list to boot. Reasons why you should come here instead of any other burger joint in the square is one, you can usually get seated right away. Two, tap list is one of the best in town. Three, probably the best burger in Madison.
Truly a gem on the square, friendly bartenders , solid burgers and most importantly, the cookies are fantastic. Sure it's a bar that has a well rounded tap collection, artisan cocktails, and crafted coffee drinks; the cookies are where it is at though. You can sit at the bar and enjoy a nice tall pint of milk with a giant semisweet chocolate- almond cookie. I don't usually care for nuts in my cookies, however the rich almond flavor balanced with the sweet yet ever-so slightly bitter chocolate chips in this giant dense, firm, yet soft cookie reminded me of a blondie in cookie form. It was pure Bliss. Get the cookie, you won't regret it.
Tasty stuff. Burgers are interesting and flavorful but smaller compared to some other restaurants (but admittedly, it is most likely a proper portion), was surprised it also didn't come with a side (but you can order a half appetizer). I usually spring for onion rings anyways so I'm somewhat used to that upcharge. They have many appetizer baskets to choose from. The onion rings here are thick, and every sauce they have is excellent. Fish fry A+, they have walleye and cod on Fridays in a Spotted Cow batter.
It wasn't the worst food I've eaten so that's a plus. That's about it though. The service stunk and the food was way too overpriced for the quality. They do have a good beer selection though so I'd say it would be a great place for drinks. Just don't order food.
The food is always great here. If Wisconsin had " comfort food", I would think this would be it. Savory cheesy deliciousness. My go to spot if I have any friends in from out of town.
The food here is very delicious! We ordered cheese curds and alligator bites for appetizers and they did not disappoint. I would even go to say that these were the best cheese curds I've ever had here in Madison! We also had their Friday Fish Fry and chose the Wall eye. It was so meaty and tender. I highly recommend this place as it seems to be a staple whenever I come visit the area
This place has good, classic Wisconsin bar fare. The burgers are delicious and the fries and cheese curds are good too (they have goat cheese curds in addition to the classic cheddar and are worth trying). Overall, the food is good, if on the greasy side, and the service is average. Don't get the tacos, they're actively bad. Fun place to sit outside with a capitol view or go for trivia on Tuesday evenings.
Went with a few friends and we split a bunch of food. We sat for lunch on the patio and shared loaded fries- the truffle were the best! We also got spinach dip which came with a ton of veggies, so good! The sandwiches we got were great as well- chicken sandwich, ham & cheese melt and the smoked salmon. Delicious!
Great food every time. Love that you can get a half order of any app for your side. All the varieties of fries are good.
Nice casual atmosphere, lively. Small place but not overcrowded. Had the tipsy burger and a half order of goat cheese curds. Enjoyed it all! Recommend a try.
I've never had a bad meal from Tipsy Cow. This is still my favorite cheese curds and burger bar in Madison. Their beer menu may be smaller than some nearby restaurants, but it's very high quality. I regard the Tipsy Cow as my snobby (in a good way) beer bar :) This bar is cozy and not nearly as noisy as other restaurants, you can actually have a conversation without shouting over everyone.
The brew was good, the food not so much. I and my partner both had food poisoning after dining at the Tipsy Cow on Monday, March 27, 2016. We shared three food items: a side salad, a tipsy burger, and a grilled cheese with salmon sandwich from the specials menu. It took me 3 days to recover. If I visit the Tipsy Cow again, I will avoid the food menu. :(
My first trip to Madison.. and I just wanted to find a 'burger' not some custom special fancy pants burger, which is all I was seeing checking menus.. Then I saw the menu for Tipsy Cow, and the Tipsy burger.. perfect, a normal hamburger!
Not really.. I travel, a lot, I eat burgers in every city I go to, this burger is without doubt one of the top 3, if not the top burger I have had.
I ordered medium rare, I got medium rare, the meat was fresh not frozen, and the patties obviously made by hand, and juicy enough to wet the bottom bun just right. the bacon was nice and crisp, like I like it. The bun lightly toasted.. grilled onions, and the cheese itself was divinecombined, it made the perfect burger..
The bartender (i ate at the bar). Alex, was friendly, knew what he was talking about when I was trying to decide on a beer, and just attentive enough to keep me happy without bugging the hell out of me like some servers do.
So, Food? 5 *
Staff 5 *
Atmosphere 4 * (it was a little cramped back int he corner where I was, but not bad)
Cleanliness 5*
Will I be back? Guaranteed, next time I am in town I'll be in to try the lamb burger.
