This may be the first bad review I have ever written on a restaurant because I usually let things slide, and give people having a bad day the BOTD. Here goes: My husband and I decided to go to The Shack after seeing good reviews on Trip Advisor, Google, etc. It seemed like a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with good food, which are usually our favorite spots. First impression on arrival - run down but smelled good. We both ordered BBQ sandwich plates and they arrived quickly. Two major problems: 1. Our twice-baked potatoes were ice cold. You could touch the cheese across the top and it felt like it came straight from a fridge in the back. Not even an effort to microwave the things. We let this slide. 2. There was a blonde, curly hair across my plate. I was (obviously) disgusted, but my husband and I had a good attitude about it. Mistakes happen. The waitress was very kind, and sent us home with a to-go box with a sandwich and fries for redemption. We left a 30%+ tip because, again, mistakes happen (and this wasn't the servers fault). We get home and open the Styrofoam box of fries to find a hair that was not from a human head (not sure if you can tell from the gruesome picture). I am fuming and disappointed that a person would intentionally do this after we handled the situation with class and left happy. This is TMI (don't read further if you have a weak stomach), but you can tell it was placed intentionally by seeing how it was wrapped around the fries. I will go ahead and assume a kitchen worker with a bad day and a bad attitude got upset with us for sending our food back and thought this would be funny (it is not funny). I have worked in the restaurant industry before - I know how things like this play out. I called to see if I could talk with a GM about the situation, and was surprised to find there wasn't a single manager on duty. Okay. In conclusion, this is basically the sickest thing that has ever happened to me and I wouldn't even go back here if they had free beer. Honestly, go anywhere else. There is a McDonalds close by I am pretty sure. Save your money.

Love to eat here and order something different off the menu. Haven't had a bad meal. Locally owned, friendly, and hoppingn on Thursday and Friday nights. Live bands, hickory smoked options.

The BEST bbq I've ever had! The sauces are scrumptious, the service was excellent. My husband and I will always remember our stop here. We hope to come back one day! 💜

This is the third time we have tried this place, leaving time between visits hoping the mistakes made were a one off. They weren't. Picking up a to-go order and being told they were out of fries is inconvenient, being told that as you watch several orders of fresh fries being served to the customers in store is very discouraging, as I am fairly sure our order was placed way before theirs. A substitute of a baked potato? That would have been tolerable if the potato had ANY THING on it or with it. Just a plain old potato, cut in half. And The Rebel burger with no onion ring? I am very disappointed, once again. Third time is the total opposite of the charm.

Very eclectic place. Nice people and great food. We went for our anniversary and we're pleased with the selection. My daughter and I ate burgers that were awesome thick juicy burgers. My husband ate a pork barbeque sandwich that melted in his mouth. A laid back no frills easy atmosphere kind of place with good food! We will go back often!

One of the best priced bbq places I've been to around Johnson City that has great beer on tap. Great vibe and music. I definitely recommend this to anyone.

Awesome! The place is small, but friendly. Very very very good food! The folks there are the best! I accidently stopped by one day and now it is 1st on my list of places to be. They have a wonderful patio, which is where you will find me (with Quixote). Try the chicken bacon ranch Quesadilla, it is fantastic!

This place is awesome. The service was great, very friendly and attentive. The sweet tea is tasty. The ribs are fabulousness, the baked beans are deliciousness in a bowl.
The prices are outstanding. Your belly gets full without your wallet getting empty!!!!response / report this review
