This is our go to special occasion restaurant. Valet parking is reasonably priced. Staff has never failed to be friendly, knowledgeable, and good at their jobs. The whole GA shrimp a la plancha is a delicious mess. This is the place to go for Fish and Chips. I also am a fan of the chowder and the lobster roll. Everything here is good however.
Very. Nice lunch. The place is inviting. We ordered blackened fish with she crab soup. Food was very hot which was a pleasure. Fish was fresh and the soup was superb. The lobster roll was very tasty. Basically herbs with NO mayo. That suited me fine.
Tonight could not have been more perfect. My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to have dinner at The Optimist. From beginning to end, the staff of The Optimist made it a night to remember. The food was truly phenomenal. From the oysters to the mussels to the scallops and swordfish to the "Crack Pie" and Key Lime Tart, the food was pitch perfect. And even though the food was on point, my biggest compliment would have to go to the staff - namely our wonderful server, Lisa. Lisa constantly made sure that we were having the best experience possible. She made it her goal to ensure that we enjoyed ourselves from beginning to end. So THANK YOU, Lisa and everyone working tonight - from the bartenders (those cocktails were delicious!), the kitchen staff (that food was stellar!) and the rest of the wait staff (many of which came to deliver something to us or tell us happy anniversary) - for making tonight unforgettable. Cheers!!!
The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and unpretentious, and the food is uniformly excellent. Frequently updated menu with several interesting and adventurous options for foodies, as well as very well prepared standards.
Has an option to pay valet and tip at the table which is nice for folks who don't carry cash anymore.
Staff is attentive, genuine and welcoming, even ones not assigned to your table. Never once felt rushed or pushed to choose extras. Could not have had a nicer time!
I'm always impressed with my meal and service at The Optimist. The shrimp toast that accompanies their She Crab Soup is exquisite, and their Smoked Fish Chowder is a must-try as well. Fish and Chips here involve a fillet that is perfectly moist and cooked encompassed by a perfectly seasoned batter that is thin and crispy without too much oil saturation.
The Shrimp Burger is like the best crab cake you've had, but shrimp. On it, the crispy shallots bring forth a good variance in texture and the squeeze of lemon sets off all the flavors. A potentially overlooked side, the fried rice, is a playground for your tongue. It's made of an intelligent mix of ingredients to deliver a variety of textures to your mouth with a delightful marriage of seasonings.
I've yet to be disappointed with any choices I've made here! Lunch provides a less-expensive opportunity to try some of this delicious food in a trendy industrial space.
My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here and we were very pleased with our experience. We loved the ambiance and the little patio area behind it outside. The oyster selection is on point! Our waiter, Eli, was super pleasant and attentive. She even brought us the shrimp appetizer completely peeled so it would mess free because I mentioned I didn't want to get my dress dirty. She definitely made our first experience amazing and special and we will definitely be back because of the incredible food and impeccable service.
We went here on a Sunday evening for a nice anniversary dinner. We have been to the Optimist several times, but our expectations were far surpassed last night. The wait staff, Doug's meal and wine recommendations, dessert, and overall service were second to none. Really, second to none! Have lived in Atlanta now for over a decade and this is by far the best meal I have ever had here. Kudos to the chef, management, and the entire team! We are patrons for life!
P.S. If you have the opportunity, try the fried octopus, the Georges Bank scallops, and the Mexican corn. And if available, the pineapple upside down cake is delectable!
Thanks!
Robert M.
Those are all MINE, 2 Baker's Dozen. I confess, I have been hitting their Oyster Happy Hour more times than I care to admit in the last several months. Yes, they are awesome to say the least. I want to give a special thanks to the Assist GM for helping with a special request the Mrs (my wife) had during our last visit. He made it happen. Because of his help, my wife once again had a lovely experience there (she doesn't eat Oysters) and the other food was great.
Update: 4/1/17 We had another stellar visit. My wife surprised me, her idea, by us celebrating our anniversary here. Everything was wonderful. Thank you :)))))
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. I've been multiple times with various colleagues. Favorite dishes are the scallops and the Octopus. If you're not a big Octopus fan - this is the place that will change your mind. The Lobster Roll is a signature dish, and it's good but warning it's served chilled versus heated (I prefer mine heated so I pass). The drinks are fantastic too. They have their own take on an Old Fashion/Manhattan that is one of the best drinks I've had. Ambiance is great, service is always excellent.
This may be my new favorite seafood restaurant in Atlanta! I love the vibe of the restaurant (trendy/industrial) and the food is delicious. Make sure to book reservations in advance, as it's usually booked up.
The octopus was listed as a must have in many reviews, and we agreed. I also had a few oysters which were very good. My swordfish entree was delicious, and the hush puppies were very good. Cocktails also did not disappoint.
They had some nice live music that we enjoyed after dinner, and the service was great. Can't wait to go back!
