The service was very poor. I had to flag someone down for a drink refill. I had to wait a long time for the check. The food did not taste that great. There was a Cockroach on floor in bathroom. I will never go back.

Great food and service
Best chilaquiles.. guacamole was made to order at the table and the fact the day added pumpkin seeds and cheese made it taste different.
Ambience was great. For a Sunday brunch I would say it was a good crowd despite the fact that we were there early.response / report this review -

I’ve been to many exquisite restaurants but I have to say this was the perfect place to have my engagement dinner with my fiance. Best service I’ve had thus far, definitely recommend to all people that love a high quality meal and pleasant atmosphere. Definitely a night to remember, we will stop by again soon not for a special occasion this time but for another memorial night.

Mission is amazing. It took me a while to go into this place because I think there is so much good Mexican food around, how good could an upscale Mexican place be? REALLY @#$#@ GOOD. The steak tacos are worthy of a trip up to the place just for them. The guac and street corn together with the chips is a must have. I probably had the most expensive and most delicious grandma margarita I've ever had. On my most recent trip I tried the pork shoulder. It was like a slice of delicious melt in your mouth pork I smoke pulled pork myself and that they are serving up is some next level tasty.

This is one of the best eats in old town. Great food and wines and very friendly service!! Table side custom Guacamole was killer good.
Drinks were generous and priced right!
Expect to be surprised by some of the fantastic twists to ordinary Mexican cuisine- really a gourmet version of non typical dishes.
The interior is stunning v and beautifully appointed decor.
Romantic and cozy but often packed so get there a little early.

TL;DR version - the food was tiny & weird, though they do get props for excellent decor and good customer service.
Actual review - The place is well designed. There's an obvious theme going on, low-light interior with candles on every surface, about a dozen and a half ornate chandeliers, crosses on the back wall to tie in with the actual Spanish Mission. It's going for dark & solemn, and it hits the mark, so kudos for that.
The food, thoughI mean, I suppose my group and I should have been prepared for pretentious presentation and ridiculously small portions, given that this is Scottsdale, but seriously, when the food came out, we looked at each other, had a bit of a moment, all clearly baffled by how little we each had on our plates. It tasted alright, and was artfully plated, but still, far too small.
And it wasn't only the portions; part of the problem, at least for me personally, was what they tried to pass off as a salad. It was maybe five slivers of onion, a few itty bitty greens, and half a dozen extremely thin-sliced tomatillas. This was all sprinkled over my flat iron steak and repeatedly referred to by the waitress as a salad. It was not a salad. It was a garnish that they tried to talk up as a very fancy salad so they could justify charging $30 for the meal.
My group and I will not be returning. We're happy to visit our usual Mexican restaurant haunts. But hey, in an attempt to end on a happy note, I'd like to mention that the service was awesome. The hostesses were welcoming, our waters were refilled probably 7 or 8 times, our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and a manager checked on us halfway through the meal.
Maybe we should have told the manager that the food was tiny and weirdoh well.response / report this review -

I have never experienced worst customer service in my entire life. If this woman truly was the manager, I am shocked they would employee such a rude and hateful woman and put her in charge of working with customers. This is the least accommodating restaurant I've ever been too. The summary here is: if you have a large party of 12 or more, don't bother coming here unless you plan on reserving through a private event and paying for the prix-fix menu, otherwise they will treat you like dirt on the ground and make your party sit in two separate tables across the patio from each other. When we *gasp* even attempted to ask the rudest manager alive if we could pull another table together that was closest to our largest table, her eyes and glare could cut glass as she very rudely said no and didn't even attempt to try to work with us. When we asked why we couldn't sit at a table similar to the TWO other large party tables next to us and why our tables couldn't have been pushed together, she harshly said how those were for "private parties." Aka the people who paid their ridiculous prix-fix prices. Our reservation was for 8:15 and they didn't even seat us until close to 9, at which point tables on the patio were starting to leave and a restaurant with the slightest level of customer service would have accommodated us.
We came here for my friend's bachelorette party dinner who had read amazing reviews about this restaurant. I had been here several times over the years and never experienced such rudeness. I will never come here again and highly encourage anyone else reading this to do the same. The good food isn't worth the rudeness and snobbiness of the management. This isn't New York. Excellent Quality Mexican food (why advertise as Latin food?) Best of Scottsdale for sure. Noise is such that you cannot talk to your dinner companion while tables on either side are screaming over the loud chatter. You have to be in it for the food otherwise too much drama in a small cramped space, and agree with previous reviews, charging for chips is reason I did not give 4 stars. Please do something about the noise and for goodness sake turn the lights up so one can read the menu without a flashlight!

Great atmosphere inside and out. That's the good.
For the bad. We got to our table and was told by the hostess that they were short on menus and she'd get our party of 4 some asap. 10 minutes later still no menus. Our server said he'd find us a menus as well and several minutes later still nothing. The table next to us brought a menu to their table from the bar and asked if we wanted to look at? After we passed it around we ordered our meals and thought things would get better from here. Wrong! Both meals for the other couple with me came out wrong. As for the food, I know this is always personal preference but we were not impressed. My wife and I had the pork tacos for 2 and both of us did not care for it. Still hungry we ordered the churros for dessert and again not impressed. The chips and salsa were the best food thing we had here.
Time to pay the bill. The other couple put $60 cash in and I asked for the rest to be on my card. My card comes back with only $20 off the original bill. We asked the server why and he said we only gave him $20 cash. 10 minutes later while he was talking to his manager luckily a honest kid in the restaurant gave $40 cash he found on the ground to the bartender. Honest mistake from the server but it was just one thing after another. We were visiting Scottsdale and we're really excited to experience some great restaurants and this was a let down. We spent 3 nights in Scottsdale and this was our least favorite meal. We were told the tortilla factory is much better. Our next visit will not include a meal here.response / report this review -

My wife and I went on a Wednesday evening. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Per suggestions of our waiter, Lance, we shared a plate of the Peruvian stew, which was simply amazing. The entrees -- chorizo porchetta and duck with a mole sauce -- were equally good blending a number of sauces and spices that created a unique dining experience. It was a very enjoyable evening of good dining and good service in a vibrant Scottsdale setting. We highly recommend it.

This restaurant is just about untouchable. Everything here is so on point and the food is just out of this world delicious. If your not from Arizona, visiting or just moved here, this place is an absolute must. You won't regret it and you can quote me on that!

My friend and I chose to go to Monarch to celebrate several milestones on Saturday evening. The experience from beginning to end was absolutely exquisite. Each portion of the meal was, forgive me, plate licking delicious.

Great place to take a break from sightseeing and enjoy a beer and listen to some great local music. Very small but tables turn quickly. It's just a nice, fun experience with casual, laid back atmosphere. T-Shirts are cute.

My husband and I have eaten at many fine places. This restaurant is our favorite with Kai being second. We have recently celebrated several special occasions here. The intimate ambience in the courtyard, the wonderful wait staff, (Kevin, we love you!), the fabulous, beautifully presented, savory dishes all contribute to a very special experience. The seasonal menu is adjusted weekly.
