Great food and drinks. Unique spot with the famous mystery beer that is an old vending machine that drops a random can of beer every time. Tiffany is a fantastic bartender. Super personable and remembers your face every time.

Walked in by accident and was pleasently surprised. It's exactly what it's name is: a really good dive bar. I would probably spend a lot of time here if I lived closer.

The "Mystery" beer idea is very fun way to get the whole group in on adventure. It's generally got a great vibe, good tunes, and a wonderful outdoor patio on the back side. Bathrooms well kept, and staff always friendly and quick!

I really like this place because you can get cheap mystery beers. They have a small front patio and a back patio, but the back patio had no chairs last time I went, so that was disappointing. Otherwise, nice staff, neat location, cold beer.

This place is decent. To me, 3.5 star, if I couldbut putting any higher numbers for overall rating of this place would be hard.
However, it is one of the good bars if you are stuck on 39th Avenue or just wish to walk down from the Med Center or a local place.
Drinks: well, nothing to write home aboutnot badbut, you have lots of better places in a couple miles radius.
BUT! Food is the highlight! They have really good food for a bar. Many others have written about thisso do eat some if you are here and I am confident you will like it!response / report this review -

Cool dive bar establishment in the heart of the 39th street district. Great small plate appetizers and fun decor. The best is the vintage soda machine behind the bar which dispenses all the great yard beers from days past. You can get a mystery beer for cheap, which is as fun as it sounds. Great out of the way stop in a historic KC MO neighborhood.

Atmosphere was pretty good. They were out of half of their tap beers and had not bothered to replace the 5 or 6 that were empty. I sat at the bar two to three feet away from a server with an empty beer for 15 minutes. No service was offered. I left after 1 beer. Bad selection, bad service. Will not return.

My boyfriend loves the mystery beer. The only time he did not drink the beer he received is when it was a hard cola type drink. Which in my opinion should have been in the dispenser because it's a beer.

Really small dive bar (no pun intended). Can't accommodate large groups very well and the back deck/patio is not in good shape. But it does have a mystery beer vending machine which in my opinion is pretty awesome.

What's not to love? Cheep beer, great waitresses and magical cooks. Don't let the atmosphere fool you, the food is amazing. Not your typical bar food, though the wings and pretzels are delicious. Hi-dive has a good selection of comfort foods for dinner and tasty sandwiches for lunch, salads too. Once the kitchen closes it is your typical friendly local bar. Mystery beers is where it is at. $2.50 each, could be an Old Style, could be a craft beer you've always wanted to try, only the Clone Trooper knows

The Hi-Dive is a friendly neighborhood dive. The interior is all handled, time aged wood with an impressive array of brand name liquors. The staff is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the beers and drinks they serve.
