This place is awesome. Jamaican at its best. When you walk in it smells amazing. The staff is excellent and fun, with good knowledge of the menu and strong recommendations.
The rum pairing with starters, main meal, and desert is spot on. The drinks are as creative and well done as the food.
The cigar lounge in the courtyard is very nice. Our waitress talked us into a rum tasting flight that was definitely worth it.
Also great prices for the high level of food, drinks, and service.response / report this review -

If you love rum, delicious foods with a twist, a drink menu that makes you want to try all the drinks because of the unusual choices and good service, this is the place for you. It is a bit pricey. We ordered several appetizers including the scallops which were delicious, but only came with 2 (I could have eaten a plateful!), the butternut squash soup which was filled with complex flavors, not just the traditional sweet creaminess, and both the fried and baked plantains which were different enough to be worth trying and flavorful. The jerk pork and chicken had a bit of a bite, but not so much as to obscure the flavor, a common problem with jerk seasoning which can be overwhelming even to a person like me that loves spicy food. The outdoor seating on a November night with the cantina bulb lighting was charming and fun, and the wall of all the different types of rum behind the bar mind-boggling.

I would prefer to give this place 3.5 stars but I can't give it the extra half for a few reasons. The location is nice with a great atmosphere and executes the proper way to convert an old building into a restaurant. The lighting is a bit too dim for my taste but I won't knock it too much because my vision does get worse in dim lighting, which is a personal matter and not a fault of the establishment. The rum selection is very nice however it would be great if they were to include other spirits on the menu. The service was nice however rather slow. In fact we saw a couple who sat inside that were seated well after we ordered get their food before us who sat outside. I got prawns and my wife got scallops both were way too spicy. I enjoy Caribbean cuisine and it is spicy however there is a way to extract the proper flavors of spicy without it being straight heat, which is considered improper. After our food we went to the patio for a drink and a cigar. The patio was a disappointment compared to the rest of the location, which is an issue when you over charge for a cigar with a subpar smoking area. The food was nice once we cut down the heat factor however it was just okay in the end with a lot of presentation filler and not much flavor depth. The prices were way too high for what was presented to us. I do feel that there is room for improvements and I am willing to give them another chance in the future.

This was some of the best food I've ever had. Prices were fare, service was good and informative, and I would still come back here if those things weren't true because the food and drinks were that good. I had a mojito (that was to die for) and my boyfriend had a rum old fashioned (since he usually gets a whiskey old fashion, but is considering changing his signature cocktail to this after today). To eat, we shared the prawns, an apple and coconut?? Soup of the day and also the slow braised pork dish. All were amazing and we were surprised that the soup was actually the star of them all if there even was a differentiating line of goodness between them all. We will be back!!

Excellent service, good food and the drinks will definitely leave u with a smile on your face. As a Jamaican alot of these dishes and drinks where foreign to me but definitely worth trying and appreciating.

Nice place with some hits and misses. Plaintain appetizers, rosemary crackers w/butter bean dip, and bootleg Smitty cocktail we're excellent. I ordered Maya's farm melange. It was a close cousin of Thai green curry served with basmati rice! The spinach hadn't been washed thoroughly I guess and left me with a bad, grainy after-taste. Tamarind ball II cocktail was okay, it did not taste of rum at all. Overall, the place is nice with friendly staff!

The hidden gem of downtown Phoenix. I'm a bourbon drinker, but even I love this place. Sit at the bar, experiment, let the bartenders share their vast knowledge, and eat (glazed prawns go so well). Excellent, craft cocktails (but they need to master the ice making).

This has been my favorite restaurant in Phoenix for almost three years now. I've probably been here a dozen times or more in that period of time and have never been disappointed. But I must warn you that much of the menu (at least what I've tried of it) brings some serious heat to the table. If you're not a fan of spicy food, your options will be somewhat limited. But the food at this restaurant is creative and unique compared to anything else I've tried in the Phoenix area. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The setting is quaint and warm. Great place for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special day. Keep up the great work!

From the Fish Tea soup to the jerk pork, everything burst with flavor. I'm not a big soup fan, but I could've eaten a large bowl! The carrot juice was the best I've had! Service was fast, efficient, and friendly. Loved this place!

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. I had the peppered shrimp. If you like shrimp and spiciness. You HAVE to get it! In addition I had the roasted veggies and everything was well cooked and fresh with a fantastic flavor. The finally I had the boatman's tipple and it was a great drink with a fresh experience and just the right amount of rum. In you're in town for a bit go here! You ain't regret it.

Once you have experienced Breadfruit & Rumbar you realize that you've been drinking rum the wrong way your whole life. I don't know what kind of magic they do here, but the drinks are amazing. This is by far one of the top - or possibly even THE TOP bar for mixed drinks in the valley.

Surprised with Date Night With the hubby💋💋💗💗💘💘💘 THIS PLACE US THE BEST!! GREAT AMBIANCE, Awesome SERVICE, Awesome CARRIBEAN CUISINE!! I FELL in love with the grilled cabbage n prawns with rum glaze, had a custom specialty drink with great rum, just amazing n the place was on a nice little corner not over crowded. Balcony dining. It was very romantic for us.

This place is amazing! It's won several awards. It's worth it! Check it out. The bar is just different kinds of rums you can try. Even expensive 50 year old barrel aged rum if you have $2500 for a glass lol (but shows the range of what they offer). They even do rum flights, and cigar paired rum pairings.
And the food is fantastic! I add this to my favorite places to go to in the valley.response / report this review -

Was rather disappointed in the service. Came in at 7pm with a reservation and was told to sit and wait to be seated. Well 10 minutes later and what seems like an after thought we were seated. And from the looks of it there were only 3 tables on the patio seated and 1 in the restaurant so not sure why we waited 10 minutes to be sat. The food was amazing but our server was less then thrilling. She was very polite, but she seems very scattered and unable to handle the tables she had. We received our cocktails and ordered when they came. Thankfully the other server and what seemed to be the the owner were attentive and made sure we had water. The dinner was super yummy. And we asked for a second round of drinks which literally took 20 minutes to get. We sat with an empty table, plates already cleared and dessert ordered and received before we received our second drinks which were ordered when food was dropped off. When I finally caught our servers attention for the bill it took 10 minutes to receive it and another 10 minutes to bring back the copy to sign. So after a long drawn out meal and paying well over $100 for 2 meals and 4 drinks with 1 dessert I am having a hard time giving this restaurant more then 3 stars.
