Fine bar food, though since they changed their name the chicken tenders, which used to be the best anywhere, are not as good.
PORTER SQUARE CLOSED ON 14 AUG 2017: I had loved the Tavern in the Square in Central Square, but unfortunately, both the Porter Square and Central Square restaurants have have shut down, and I'm not sure how to make the suggestion/edit in Google Maps to indicate that. The Central Square Tavern will be reopening shortly with new owners as an independant restaurant, so presumably the Porter square branch will do likewise. Whether it will be as good as the old Tavern will remain to be seen.
Went for dinner. Food was good for a tavern. Fish was not great but my steak was awesome. Clam chowder was pretty delicious. Service was prompt enough. Good experience.
A pretty generic restaurant, but a reasonable option if you have a large group.
Not a pet friendly place. If you're thinking of bringing your dog to this place, DON'T. They have outside seating right on the street, but according to their policy it will be a food violation if your dog inside the seating area, and they're very rude about it. They say you can have the dog outside the area, which it sounds ridiculous when your dog is 5 inches away from where you are, what is the difference between having your dog inside or outside if you're only 5 inches away and you're both OUTSIDE?? and how about the dogs that are walking by on the sidewalk? .. ridiculous policy!
Great selection of drinks and snack choices. They also have a patio for the summer. Their cocktail drinks are a bit weak and tasted like juice both the sangria and cocktails. The apps are large in size, would recommend the truffle tater tots and nachos
They use ciabatta for a burger buns. Why? Burger et al wants to shoot out the back. It was evident that we were a group of beer guys, but the waiter didn't pick up on it and was not knowledgeable. What's most annoying is there are two menus that look similar but are different. One includes the rotating, tastier beers, the other does not. Why?
Such great staff and service! I was there post-Boston marathon and they really treated us well. "Healthy" sized brews with local options and the prices are fair.
The burgers we're above standard for a bar type atmosphere and quite tasty. Good views of surrounding TV's for games/sporting events etc.
The environment was variable and warm, giving you the feeling you could hang out for a while. I would definitely add it to a place for regular visits while in the area.
