Nice campsite. Close drive to starved rock. The only real downside being, that the camping spots are a little too close together.

This is a quiet campground without the amenities that attracts the weekend party campers. Scout your spot before selecting - there are quite a few that are either mud pools or ski slopes.

The campsites are one on top of each other. Our neighbor pulled his pop up, not even 6 ft from where we were sitting by the firepit. I wish they were spread out more so we couldn't hear them snoring next door. The main bathroom was so dirty along with the shower area. The port o potty was actually very clean. Cleaner than the flush toilets. The people at the front gate were very friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful area though, just wouldn't stay here again.

This place is one of my favorite camping getaways. It’s close to the chicago land area. Easy to get to and offers different attractive things to do with a small or big group, as well as couples. For any seasons. A good option for a mature winter camping. You can visit the part at the beginning of November for a good taste of wine fer camping or just go in the summer when the whole park is green and full of wild life.

Great place to take the kids for a weekend. The campsites have electricity, but it offers a good space for tent camping or RV. The camping sites are for the most part segregated by some bushes and small trees. There is a grill and a bench as well in every site.

The park is full of great hiking trails with marvelous views. Great rock formations and small little hill.

If you are looking to get away for a weekend, this is the place to hit.

For being Starved Rock's campground (which is a super nice state park with a beautiful lodge), this campground isn't great. The shower house was the worst - you have to push a button repeatedly to make the water come out, and the water has no temperature control. First it's freezing cold, then once the hot water kicks in it's scalding. Really expected more from the campground after having been to the Starved Rock visitors center and the lodge.

The campground is okay. Good sized lots, fit our camper easily. Decent bath houses. A nicer playground for all of the kids would be great - currently they only have a swingset in the loop where we camped. It also looked as if they hadn't mowed the grass in months leading up to the holiday weekend because of mounds of cut grass everywhere.

I was pleasantly surprised at how wooded this campground is. We got a site on the outer edge of the loop and there were some cute little trails for the kids to hike back into the woods. That being said, sites were really close together. Staff were really great and gave us free wood that other people had left behind.

A fantastic family camping experience!! We stayed in spot 6, which was right by the pit toilets (basically a port-a-potty, but in a brick building), and a short walk to the flushing toilets and showers. The men's room had 1 flushing toilet, the women's room had 2. Both restrooms also had 2 showers. There was always 1 roll of toilet paper in each stall but we carried a roll with us to be safe. None of us had problem flushing the toilets. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because we were hoping my 9 year old would be able to play on the playground, but it is actually just one swing set with 3 big kid seats and 1 baby holder swing. Since the campground was completely booked, there were always kids swinging. There is a 24 hour firewood vending machine inside the gates that took credit cards which was pretty cool. You would pay $7 for a bundle of firewood. Also, the outside gates were locked at 10pm so you couldn't drive in or out after then. There was a cool little general type store out of a garage called Jacks (signs were posted up when leaving the campground) a few minutes away from the campground that has better hours than the store on the property. Jack is a older gentleman with an awesome sense of humor and great deals on ice and firewood. At the grounds, we kept our food in coolers in the car and didn't have any racoon or animal problems. The bugs weren't too bad, but we did wear the mosquito repellent bracelets and had a citronella candle burning. I highly suggest bringing flashlights, extra batteries, toilet paper and bags for garbage! My family will definitely be staying here again!

Worst campsite ive been to. You get locked in at 10pm. You literally can't be a group greater than 4 because they'll complain you are too loud! (Even if you have several sites rented). The water stinks. The showers have super hot water you cant control the temperature. You have to HOLD the button to take a shower and it lets out very little water. The drains all over are clogged so the water is just there stinking even more. The racoons will rate you food and garbage, EVERYTHING! Cooles, tupperwares, even jars,and a screen tent will deff not stop them. You have to put your food away back in your car EVERYDAY!! And they wont even tell you, you find out the hard way. They have a tiny worn out park for kidsits horrible! Overall, i dont recommend it, I say go somewhere else and then just come visit starved rock. Even when camping here you have to drive to go hiking bc at the campsite theres nothing -_-
Never going back to this campsite.

It was separated from the state park. There was nothing to do inside the campground. You get locked in at ten. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The showers make you have to push a button every litterally f8ve seconds (i counted) to keep the water goong and there was no temperatire control. And raccoons are literally everywhere. There was one that periodically came to our campground during the day, and at night, there were at least five of them trying to get into our food. I would never go back again.

My husband, daughter & I stayed at the campgrounds for the first time. We were all disappointed that the showerhouse was not maintained at all over the Memorial Day weekend. The women's was out of toilet paper in one stall & the stall with toilet paper was clogged up. This was on Sunday morning around 10am. The men's was as my husband stated having to shower with one hand because the shower would last for about 15 seconds. I did call the office number about the restrooms' condition & was told that they're 'making their rounds'.The site was so over ran with weeds that it was very cramped quarters between the camper, fire pit & picnic table. We did drive around to all of the other sites to see if there was some with more room & better access to back the camper into for a possible return. We did find some that were in better condition.

5 min drive to Starved Rock State Park. Came in the Fall OCT 2016 in a travel trailer. Beautiful colors. Spacious spots. Smaller campground. Our gravel spot was overgrown with grass but otherwise fine.
SH/Bathroom some might say is less than to be desired but not horrible by any means. Only used it once (The map online is misleading-there is only ONE showerhouse/flush toilets location-the rest of the buildings are just pit toilets (It is however open 24 hours & free) Showers fine for a quick rinse EXCEPT you have to push the button LITERALLY every 10 seconds (this is not an exaggeration just an observation) to keep the water coming out. No temp control no stream control. Showers were HOT which I loved. The Hubbs not so much. We showered the rest of the time in our TT. Firewood is not actually onsight. You have to drive down the road but there are signs-She closes at 6. There is a teeny camp store/shack-never went inside so can't comment. As a side note, at the dump station there are the tire puncture things(don't know what they're called) that if you go in the wrong way you will shred your tires. Signs are posted but I have NO idea why they would even need theseGreat little campground close to Starved Rock State Park. Will definitely be back. Giving a 4 not a 5 only because of the 10 second shower button.

Both group and regular sites are nice. Regular sites are in a wooded area and group camps are in a large field. It is very close, less than a quarter mile, to the state park. There are bathrooms with running water.

We arrived and the grass has not been cut in weeks. Inadequate restrooms and showers are in poor shape. No one supervising the front gate nor did we see any DNR security. Always heard such great things and it seems very run down.

Wonderful camping spot with many beautiful trails. Clean and quiet too. Turkeys run wild! Lol. Enjoy!
