Took our cat here under unfortunate circumstances 15 minutes before they close. We thought he was maybe choking, they met us at the door and rushed him in to the vet. After trying everything, they could not save him, not knowing what caused his death. The vet was then so kind to take some x-rays to try to figure out what had happened. Turns out he had a very enlarged heart, likely tied to some disease, and suffered heart failure. While he was probably gone before he made it inside, they did all they could, and then some in effort to comfort us and explain what happened. There's nothing we nor they could've done once heart failure began but I could not have asked for more, especially as they handed him over to us and said "go home, there's no charge today." Wish there were more businesses like this. We'll be taking our pupper here in the future. Good people.

Drs. Mosher and Nemetz are wonderful vets, and with their techs go above and beyond. They truly treat your animals as though they were treating their own. (If only human health care was this compassionate and detailed.) Our experience is quick diagnostics and treatment and affordable pricing. They'll literally draw out and explain things on a white board for you. I can't recommend them enough.

BEST VET IN ATHENS!!! Dr. Singh and the entire staff at South Athens Animal Clinic were so knowledgeable and compassionate when my kitten became sick. Dr. Singh and the staff updated me while we awaited test results to determine my kitten's illness and they cared for him as if he was their own! When he was extremely ill, they arranged for me to drop him off on my way to work and pick him up on my way home so they could give him IVs during the day and ensure he received round the clock care. Every single person I encountered was so kind, patient and genuinely cared so much about the kitten and his health. My kitten is healthy and thriving now - I owe his life to South Athens Animal Clinic! You will not find a better vet!

Everyone here is helpful and concerned. Many have been with the practice for several years. The doctors are compassionate and obviously care deeply for their patients and companion humans.

The facilities are clean and in good repair. The waiting area is obviously designed for animals and people - simply furnished with plenty of room. I especially like the display case that holds historical equipment and information about the lineage of the long line of veterinarians, whose dedication inspired the SAAC.

The Good: Initially, I was able to get an appointment easily and immediately, the doctors and staff are knowledgeable, the extended hours of operation are great for people who work 8-5, and the prices are VERY reasonable. Affordability and hours of operation are the major "pros" of this clinic.

The Bad: It was exceptionally difficult to get an update on the status of an inpatient animal. I tried for over an hour to get someone on the phone and was put on a long hold every time I called. Additionally, I tried to schedule the follow-up appointment they recommended at the time I picked my animal up to bring him home, and was told to call back later to schedule follow-up. They would not let me schedule the appointment at checkout, and when I DID call back to schedule the follow-up appointment, I was told that they fill up a week in advance and that I should have scheduled the follow-up appointment at checkout when I picked my animal up to bring him homewhich is exactly what I tried to do, but for whatever reason, they would not allow.

In synopsis, knowledgeable doctors, knowledgeable staff, excellent prices, great hours of operation, but very, very poor communication and overall organizational skills. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. Trying to do what the doctor recommended (schedule a follow-up appointment) while not being permitted by the staff to do so, only to be later told by the staff that you should have done precisely what you tried to do (but they refused to allow) was rather frustrating.

I would have liked to have given this vet a 5 star rating, but unfortunately, due to the issues I experienced with communication and trying to schedule a follow-up appointment, I can't go any higher than three stars for this one.

It's a shame my first visit went the way it did, really. I have a cat, a dog, a rabbit, and several birds. I'd have been a good client to have kept.

Edit: After giving this more thought, I'm going to have to change my three star rating to a two star rating, based on the fact that this vet only gave me enough medication for my cat to last him until the follow-up appointment that they wouldn't let me make, so now, I'm going to have to taper off and discontinue his meds before he's well, at least until I can find another vet who will let me make an appointment.

If you care about your pet, don't bring it here.

I have been to vets in Georgia and Virginia for over 40 years with several dogs. In my experience, Dr Mosher and South Athens Animal Clinic are the best. A calm, pleasant, competent and compassionate place centered on the pet and pet owner. Very good communication - nothing rushed.

Very pleased that I found these vets! My boy had an aural haematoma (i.e. a blood-filled lump in his ear), and I went to two other vets for treatment options. The first one said the only option was inserting a teat cannula to drain the blood over the course of 3-4 weeks. The other said that the only option was surgery to cut away a piece of the ear, then stitch it back up! I knew this was not the case as I work with animals (birds and wildlife), and suggested a partial drain with a course of steroids. Both vets said it wouldn't work. However, I came here to South Athens Animal Clinic, and this exact treatment plan was recommended before I even said anything! My dog was relaxed around the vets and vet nurses, and enjoyed getting treats and attention- his ear healed beautifully, with no need for surgery, stitches etc. Highly recommended.

South Athens Animal Clinic is sincerely the best vet in Athens - and actually the best vet I've been to in 4 states. They are completely thorough with your pet exams and explain everything in detail - I never feel like I'm unsure of what's going on or feel like they didn't do enough (which I have other places). They have wonderful bedside manner with my dogs and me. Their staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, they are also willing to work with long term clients as far as payments, should you be in a bind - which I have been. They also will suggest a decent home/over the counter remedy if possible, before I run my dog in and they've always been on point and saved me some money. Plus their prices are considerably more affordable than any vet in Athens. Even their prescription meds are considerably cheaper than online pet med carriers.
My eldest dog who is 15 has been suffering from some chronic allergies that have plagued him for years. Other vets had me spinning my wheels and spending money on special tests and exams that were unnecessary. I brought my pup in there and they came up with a complete game plan to help him. Dr. Mosher even called me at 7 pm one night to make sure that I understood the plan and came up with something cost effective for me. It has worked wonders. He's bright, healthy, and happy now.
Years ago, I was dog sitting for a friend who was out of the country and her dog came down with a horrible ear infection. Dr. Nemitz sent my friend a detailed email with information about what was going on with her dog (as she had limited access to a phone) and gave her his personal cell phone should she have questions. They really care and it shows. I can't tell you how grateful I am to have such a wonderful team of experts helping my little dogs - who are my everything.
