There are two separate parts to Skipper's, a restaurant and the music venue.
Most recently, I went for one of their British Invasion shows. The venue portion was packed. If you are attending on a busier night, you might need to pay $5(cash only) for parking or be prepared to walk a little bit.
They had multiple bars open (the credit card bars had a bit of a line, but the cash bar I never waited longer than 3 minutes). If you don't show up early for a larger show like that, don't expect to get good seating however. Despite the feel of the bathrooms(band stickers and graffiti galore) they were incredibly clean given the number of people.
The stage and audio setup was much better than I was expecting and is truly the draw on the venue side. The musicians they brought in were all excellent and they ran through the band list on schedule which I almost never witness at local shows.
The restaurant side is much smaller by comparison, but no less appealing. I had clam chowder which was excellent and the other plates I saw brought out were equally appetizing. Don't expect 5* service or presentation, but you'll get great food for fair prices.response / report this review -

Great grungy bar for locals very cool laid-back atmosphere. great then you for live local music. Service is spotty sometimes at the bar unless you're a regular.

We got some Gator Ribs which were really good and the peppers too but the rest wasn't, unfortunately. The fries were disappointing, so were the hush puppies. The restroom definitely needs some attention/renovations. The environment was really nice with the live band performing. We stayed for a bit but ended up bring the food to eat in hotel.

Just tried calling multiple times at 10:15 trying to place a to go order and was forwarded by the staff 3 times on my phone, and once on my boyfriends phone. I work in restaurants. I understand it sucks having to make food before closing, but I called 45 minutes before closing and live 5 minutes away. It will take 10-15 to make the food. If you are going to hire staff that are too lazy to take a to go order, you're going to keep losing customers. I am so disappointed and will not be coming back. I just got out of work, and was looking forward to eating something delicious. You've ruined my night with your incompetent staff. The Crawfish pasta is wonderful though. Wish you didn't destroy my experience so I could enjoy it again. I would like a manager to contact me if possible. I would like to know why you are open until 11 on a Tuesday, but deny people the opportunity to order food until the time you close.

Very worth the money here. Live music, fresh seafood with a reasonable price. This is a restaurant considered by many local people the best seafood place in the area. Both the fried and steamed platter were yummy. The cleanliness here, however, sets no good of an example.

Great live music and drinks. Wings are amazing as well. Food overall is decent, however multiple people I know who do alcohol business with skipper's do not view the cleanliness of the kitchen highly. To say the least. In short, the kitchen is dirty but when you're drunk and listening to good music that really doesnt matter.

A fun place that is somewhere between a dive bar and a cozy, cluttered restaurant decor. The difference is it is authentic, not a want-to-be theme restaurant. The gator ribs was amazing. Tasted and had texture like pork ribs, but without the fat.

This spot is interesting. The service was great. The food was okay but unique. The biggest downfall was how the inside looked. There was sharpie writing all over the inside. Had obscene writing. And even a sticker for a porn site right there on the seat next to us.

This place is like a big bear hug that makes me feel all cozy and at home. Its not pretty and shiny and new, its real and comfy and like my favorite pair of jeans. sure sometimes I may get too drunk or eat too much or dance all night, but its all okay. I'll keep coming back anyway. The same as I have since I moved here 17 years ago. Keep Smokin' Skippers and I'll see you soon.

Amazing clientele. Wonderful live music. Check their calendar. Food is of great quality. Prices are reasonable. The courtyard and benches give it a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Skippers is such fun and the food is always good. Try the wings and the basa. They have the best black beans and rice too. Plus they have Magic Hat no. 9 on draft. Yum. Good place to take the kids. I'm dying to go see a concert there. Just a fun, funky place.

Love Skippers! Been there numerous times over the last 10 years. Order the wings REFRIED. Not on the menu have to ask them to do it. Wahoo nuggets are the best. All the food is great. Wait staff and Bartenders are always friendly, our weekend "go to" place for live music. A must see in Tampa!

A classic and Woodstock vibe with great food and ultimate underground bands playing every variety of music. I think the fact that many of the bands are not household names ,makes it more unique. iIn it's over 30 year tradition they are a true must play venue for either established or up and co.ing bands. I won't give away the layout because it would not do it justice. This place must be experienced any night or weekend early evenings food, music, retro vibe makes this a true music venue jewel. Thumbs up!!!!👍

This place belongs in an old spy movie! It's another hidden gem and those that know, know!
Great food, prices on beer, liquor, spirits and friendly attitudes. You will find people from every part of Tampa here. They have a great live band structure of weekly entertainment too.
Give it a try and you'll be surprised. Don't let the looks fool you! Find your inner spy and blend in.response / report this review
