Aisles bit narrow as they have a lot to fit in their store. Their produce, Bakery, deli, meats, floral department are all top-notch. You can't go wrong shopping here. You pay a little bit more but it is well worth the money.

Great, locally owned, full-service grocery store. Yeah, you pay a little more but quality service, produce, and meats are worth it. I'm an almost daily shopper and love this place. If I want a whole chicken, cut in pieces and skinned, they'll do it, no extra charge.

A small neighborhood store that offers true quality food - so much better than the big chain stores - and a really good hot deli - all at reasonable prices, and free wine tastings on Saturdays from 3 to 6.

Good grocery store for fresh produce, bakery, and meat items. Lots of prepared foods too! Good wine selection. A nice flower shop. It's all very expensive. You pay for the convenience.

I started coming to the Downer Sendiks after the one on Capitol closed. The store is well stocked and very clean. At least on the east side, this is the best produce and butcher you will find. Their bakery is also top notch. Best of all the staff is knowledgeable and incredibly helpful.

Pricier than Pick'n'Save, but you get what you pay for.

Pros:

My wife and I usually get whatever is on sale at the butcher's. The meat is always great even though it's on sale; We've never had a problem once.

The produce is excellent! In fact, the produce quality is what ultimately made us decide it was worth spending the extra money rather than going to Pick'n'Save. The difference in quality is easily visible.

You can get a large grilled Panini for $5 - $6 which I think is a good deal.

Bakery is delicious and (surprisingly!) quite cheap.

Cons:

Many of the frozen and pre-cooked items are (slightly) overpriced. In many cases you're paying less than you would at Whole Foods, but you still see things like $8.99 per pound for pre-cooked macaroni and frozen pizzas foods being sold for $1 - $2 over MSRP. This doesn't effect me personally, because I simply don't purchase overpriced goods. --Understand that being a small store located on the East Side means there's a lot of overhead and fewer customers. A lot of people complain that things aren't cheap, but this is reality and there are bills to pay, so I for one don't hold it against them.

Side-Note:

I've seen several reviews saying that Sendik's doesn't have their produce prices listed. That's not really true. 90% of the items have their price clearly listed in the aisle and the ones that don't are typically goods that aren't always in stock. (there are a few exceptions, but nothing to get upset about, especially since the entire store is like 1500 square feet)

***I would honestly give Sendik's a 4 out of 5, but considering the number of 1-star reviews from people who suggest that Pick'n'Save is comparable (they're incorrect) I'm giving it a 5.

There are often no labels on produce items. On many occasions there has been mold growing in the produce, mostly on strawberries and other fruits. It's unfortunate that the owner neglects these problems while simultaneously charging more than double for every item than other markets. The workers are really productive and nice. It is too bad that they don't get paid a livable wage while the owner reaps in all the profits. At first I shopped there, not because it was convenient, but because I wanted to support local stores. (Other options are whole foods and pick & save) But now I feel much better about giving my money to other stores.
