Antonio was great. He stayed with us every step of the way as we purchased our new puppy. He even came in on his day off to send our new baby home with us.

Very friendly and helpful. They guided me through their options of tanks, substrate and equipment, taking into account my price range. They seem to genuinely care about their fish and customers; they are honest about whether or not to buy a product/animal (eg. to avoid certain fish because they were unhealthy on that given day). They ordered the specific plants I wanted for my planted tank at no extra cost and helped me pick out my first fish! Tank, plants, and fish were bought at Selmer's.

I highly recommend Selmers! Jessica understood when I explained that I had been scammed previously by other “breeders” online and was willing to help and negotiate prices with me. I definitely recommend Selmers for GREAT and attentive customer service!

This disgusting pet store sells puppies that come from puppy mills. Millions of puppies and dogs are euthanized in shelters each year. Please ADOPT instead of supporting a business which profits off of cruelty. Please research on your own if you don't want to take my word for it. Visit "Puppy Mill Free Long Island" on facebook for testimonials.

I purchased a Siberian husky puppy. Three days later he began to get sick. When I brought him to Dr. Kramer, the vet that Selmers recommends, the doctor informed me that my puppy was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection five days before I bought him and was on heavy antibiotics. The dr. Said the puppy was suppose to be seen and xrayed again before being sold. No one at Selmers told me the puppy was sick and he was sold to me without his medicine, which caused him to get pnemonia. The puppy has two parasites and is very contagious, which is a threat also to my other dog as well as myself. The owner apologized and offered to take the puppy back but I did not trust him to care for the puppy as he did not care for him properly in the first place. I reported the neglect to the animal cruelty in Suffolk. I highly do not recommend this store.

Has a great stock and so many cute animals but. I got an African dwarf frog from there and I brought it home and it was chilling on the bottom and that is normal for the first 24 hours of a new environment. 24 hours later the frog is floating at the top of the tank, not dead but not looking good at all. I go to my nearest pet store and got my water tested and it has a dangerous amount of ammonia is the water. Prior to getting my frog I had no ammonia in the water so I come to a conclusion that the water the frog came in was contaminated with severe amounts of ammonia from the frog and fish in the tank at the pet store. The store strongly denies it. But I have no other choice but to think that they do not test for ammonia nor concern themselves with it in their tanks.

I've been coming here since before I could walk. I remember the monkeys downstairs that used to steal my lollipop! Love Selmers and always will!

I'm not even a dog person and I was enamored of all the dogs. Although the price was too high for the dogs. It was fun to bring my kids, they had fun looking at all the different animals.

if you buy puppies or just any animal from a pet store you're supporting buying from places where these animals are bred in unhealthy conditions for money. no wonder they're $2000! hey, do what you want, but always consider buying from a shelter, or REPUTABLE breeder.

Thank you so much for my family's newest member! The whole gang instantly fell in love with the beautiful golden retriever pup I brought home! I appreciate all of the assistance you gave me as a first-time pet owner, and the books you recommended really prepared me for this journey. They were very honest, patient, and accommodating. What a selection to choose from too! If you are in the market for a new pet, do yourself a favor and go to selmers!

Where do I start.December of last year we came into Selmers to buy a dog when we got there I fell in love with a Golden Retriever and my boyfriend with a White German Shepherd. We didn't know which dog to take but I didn't want to leave mine and he didn't want to leave his. The Golden was about 6 weeks old and Shepherd was about 4 months and the Shepherd was the last dog from his litter. I really was not fond of the idea of the Shepherd because we wanted puppies only but my boyfriend felt bad for him because he was in a group of big dogs and fell in love with having a Shepherd. The lady at selmers told us how a great temperament the dog was and that she will give us a discount if we bought both. So we decide to buy both dogs. When we brought the Shepherd to his first vet visit what was referred by selmers ; hunting animal hospital dr Kramer; we was told that the Shepherd had cryptorchidism; which is when one of his testicles didn't drop the vet also advised us that he is the vet for selmers and that he advised selmers of this problem but it was never advised to us when we purchased the dog. After about the first week we had our Shepherd he started throwing up we didn't know why or what was going on we thought it was maybe the food or maybe the new environment so about a month and a half later our dog one day just started walking around the room with his head against the wall and white mucus coming out of his mouth we rushed him to liv which charged us about 3k to let us know that our dog had a liver shunt that they did not have the proper tools to operate because it was about 4 cm they told us that we will have to bring our dog to AMC which is located in the city we brought our dog there and was handed with a 10k bill which we have no other option to pay because we couldn't put our dog down and we have 4 young kids to explain what was going on. We then called selmers to advise what was going on and there suggestions was for us to put the dog down and that they will give us a new puppy we asked them how can u tell us to do such a thing??? I also brought up the fact that we still have not received any of the information for our Golden retriever or paper work that they said they will mail out. They stated they will mail us the paper work and the best thing they can do is give us a refund for our Shepherd.I went to pick up the refund about a month later and told them again that my paper work was not received for my Golden retriever the owner himself said his secretary will mail it. Today, a year and a couple of months I still have no paper work for my dog. And we have had several other operations for our German Shepherd. We just last week 2-20-17 we had to get him another surgery because he had stones in his bladder and today as I am sitting in the emergency room with my dog once again I decided that this is something that has to be warned to anyone else who is looking to purchase a dog from here.
My retriever is also very aggressive which is very unlike retriever and when I have researched it says it may be due to the Breeder so please beware! I

I got my two chinese hamsters here and they're doing great :•) I noticed the store has replaced the wire cages they put the puppies in with wood boxes with no lids, glass panels on the sides, and bedding so I'm very happy they made it safer and more comfortable.

The store itself has a really great setup, they have many animals and a variety of supplies to purchase. I bought my bunny from here a couple of years ago and she is healthy, I've had no problems with her so because of that I'm giving them 2 stars. However, I purchased a couple of hermit crabs from here recently and was given a sea sponge for them as well. The sponge I was given was INFESTED with fruit flies, their larvae were all over the sponge. I had noticed the tiny clear, yellowish colored little worms at first, but being that they weren't moving and being that I'm a new hermit crab owner, I wasn't aware as to what they were and thought it was part of the sea sponge. My crab tank had become infested with fruit flies, I had to clean it all out and replace all the items in the tank and now I'm finding little fruit flies flying all over my house!! I will not be purchasing from selmers again. They need to sanitize and clean a large percentage of their store, because this is absolutely disgusting and unsanitary.
