A must go place if your in Columbus. Amazing German food, the buffet is so worth it. And their Fudge Haus right up the block is worth it as well. Amazing handmade candies and fudge. The best sugar free candy we've found if your diabetic.

Great authentic place! It's obvious that Schmidt's has been a Columbus staple for many years and with their amazing food and wonderful service it will be for year to come. Since it's so popular, don't be surprised if you have to wait; parking can be tricky too. Well worth the visit!

Good stuff. We went once and were happy to go. It is exactly as advertised. We lived in German Village for several years. It seems more the kind of place visitors to the city would go and enjoy. The only reason we didn't go back is because when you're local, there are too many other good options to explore.

This. Place. Is. Awesome. The food is delicious, they serve proper sized (liter) quality beer, and the atmosphere and staff are excellent. If in looking for a criticism is say perhaps their size. It gets busy here. Ice been able to get in with a 5 min wait, but I've also waited over an hour before. Maybe call ahead to check wait times, but come either way. It's worth it.

GET IN MY BELLY!!! Pretty much sums it up for me. I have been eating at Schmidt's since the 70's and 80's when my parents would go there to eat. Anytime I'm in Columbus I always try to make time for a meal at Schmidt's. Authentic German food- the real deal. Great Schmidt's dark beer on tap too. Oh, and don't forget to get a jumbo cream puff for desert! Go with vanilla when you order a cream puff.

We really enjoyed this fun authentic restaurant. The food was good. The pastries they are known for speak for themselves. They were not over powering in flavor and done well. Would enjoy visiting this establishment again if I'm in the area. Also, I loved that it was family owned and operated. It's nice to visit a place that stays true to it's heritage.

Delicious sausages! Wonderfully fun atmosphere! Delicious beer! The whole package! They even have German lessons in the bathroom (the men's at least)!! I learned how to say, "Momma always said life was like a box of chocolates; you never know what ya gonna get." And, "Here's looking at you, kid." And, "I'll be back," in German while peeing! :D

Food and waitress was great, however we waited a pretty long time before being seated. It did not appear to be entirely busy, and they wouldn't seat 7 people because the other 5 were going to be 20 minutes late. That would have been fine, but after the 5 arrived it took another 30 minutes to be seated. The waiting area was unusually hot compared to the rest of the restaurant, and 3 people ended up leaving before getting seated. We will eat there again, just hope this isn't the norm.

Definitely a total dining experience. Polka band, awesome German food, amazing staff especially Nicole. You get a German lesson while you're in the bathroom. Glass display case of dessert you drool over while you wait to be seated. Make sure you leave room for dessert. Biggest cream puffs ever.

It's hard to give 4 stars instead of five here, but the parking it atrocious. That's the last I'll speak of their uncontrollables. The food is really good. Although you get plenty of rich history here with a very unique atmosphere, the menu variety is lacking. I guess German food menus aren't very expansive to begin with, but hey, I'm giving 4 stars, not 3. You'll enjoy coming here once, but you probably won't be back frequently.

From when you walk in the door you are transported to a new and exciting atmosphere. The staff was kind and the buffet was clean. I had the buffet. So many food options! Come hungry! The little one loved the chicken and approves of the mac and cheese. The man had the Bahama Mama Reuben. It was good, but he would want to try the original Reuben next time. For dessert, we had the peanut butter cream puff (large enough to split!) and the little one dined on a sundae. Overall, delicious. Would love to come again!

A must visit in Columbus! The Quaint German Village is historic & beautiful. The Sausage House greets you with house made sausages and beautiful pastry treats in show cases! The German uniforms are adorable and our bar tender Lorenzo was fast, friendly, and very informed about the vast craft beer selection! 5+

My wife and I heard great things about this place and were excited to try it out. We were quoted a 20-30 minute wait time on a Friday night, but ended up only waiting about 10 minutes. Can't complain about that!
We both tried the buffet, which is a great way to sample a lot of things Schmidt's has to offer. I didn't see a price listed for the buffet on the menu which worried me slightly, but it ended up being $15 each, right on par with other entrees on their menu.
Between the two of us, we tried everything the buffet had to offer except the sausage stew and the cold salad bar. Neither of us found anything we didn't like. I especially liked the Bahama Mama and thought it paired very well with the tang of the red cabbage and apples. There's a pot of brown mustard on the tables that goes very well with the Bratwurst, too.
Pictured is my third plate (mostly because I was too busy eating the first two to remember to take a picture) clockwise from the top: Baked chicken leg, red cabbage and apples, German potato salad, sauerkraut, bratwurst, Bahama Mama, garlic knockwurst, and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy. At the top is a cup of their potato soup which is also very good, but different from the cheesy, bacon-laden potato soups you usually see.
We added a half-pound vanilla cream puff to-go for a special price of $3.75 with buffet purchase. Though I'm still too stuffed to dig into it, I did swipe my finger through the filling and found it to be delicious as well.
The restaurant itself is in an historic building with lots of neat things to look at. It's definitely a tight fit, but it works out well. I felt more like I was in a friend's house or with extended family for a holiday dinner than crammed in somewhere like sardines.
I will definitely be visiting Schmidt's again the next time I'm in town!response / report this review
