San Juan island named after Ioannis Phokas (Greek: Ιωάννης Φωκάς), is the second Largest of the San Juan is the most populated of the islands and the county seat. With the largest population comes the best shopping and most activities. Bring your wallet as everything is 30% more expensive in the islands vs mainland some associated with distance and travel time but also due to a lack of competition. The island are beutiful year round sunny April through October and have a great storm season November through February. Many locals beleave the island superior to Hawaii.

I love San Juan island. I've been going there since I was a child. The island offers an interesting blend of scenery. Parts of the island are densely forested, while others are wide open fields of natural grass, completed with some small sandy bald spots. The core of the island is rich in pastoral views where a land trust has ensured that the area be used for farming.
There is a ton of wildlife on and around the island. Deer are everywhere. Seeing a fox is not uncommon, the prey on the ample bunny population, as do the bald eagles. Orcas, otters, seals and their food all swim in the waters around San Juan Island. Bring some binoculars and a camera if you go.
Finally, there is now a reservation system for the ferry. It is a PITA in the summer. During the winter it is much easier. Plan trips months in advance.response / report this review -

It was so beautiful there. The fairy ride was awesome. It took about an hour to ride the fairy over. And it stops about 4 other places during the day. So the scenery is beautiful and breath taking. Its a very played back kind of feel in Friday Harbor. People are friendly and the town kind of reminds me of a fishing town in Alaska in the summer time. It was just what I needed for a break from the city life. I recommend to anyone that needs some solitude. To visit the San Juan Islands.
