Don’t waste your time going there, except if you like lot
Listen to extremely loud music. It is mostly a tourist trap and some people are dazzled by the light of celebrity chefs. My ribs must have been salted more than once. I couldn’t eat the dish. “The chef” should take care of the restaurants he openned instead of spending so much time on TV. The service is below average. there are much better options in Harlem.response / report this review -

The atmosphere was cool, the bar area was loud but the dining room was not overwhelmingly so. We had the corn bread, full fried chicken with Mac&cheese and biscuits as well as the Brussel sprouts and crab cakes.
The crab braces were small but delicious, the corn bread was great, the Mac and cheese was probably the best I've ever had and the fried chicken was the also possibly the best I've ever had, and I've had tons of fried chicken (ate it on a weekly basis living in Seoul for 3 years). Albeit I'm from Minnesota so there is probably a lot of great chicken out there I'm yet to taste. The only disappointment was the biscuits, which were dry and didn't come with honey or butter to moisten them up. For 3 people we had too much food and had leftovers to take back. This place has one of the best comfort food. Went there with GF and the fried chicken was amazing. The waitress was great and attentive even though it was incredibly busy. Can't remember the specific drink I has but it was nice and strong -- I think it was served with Hendricks :) will definitely go again.

Visited Red Rooster due to name recognition, good reviews, and location. My friend and I were excited to give it a try. Our enthusiasm quickly died and was replaced by deep disappointed. We arrived for our 5:30 reservation and the hostess pointed to a table and said "put them over there" and had another hostess lead us to a table. After walking past TWO empty tables for two, we were seated at a table at the back of the room, on the backside of a BOOTH, next to the bussing station, with two very rickety chairs. We had the pleasure of sitting next to the wait staff while they assembled, and refilled water jugs. I had waiters and staff bumping my chair every time they turned the corner. I couldn't understand why we had been dumped at this table. The hostess in question looked a lot like my friend and I (*ahem*). Yet we were dumped at a table against a wall with rickety chairs while there were empty tables available. I am truly disappointed. I have not experienced that particular treatment before, not as far as I know anyway. I really didn't expect it in Harlem. I really regret not speaking to the manager last night. I regret not just getting up and walking out. I was truly offended. The food was okay, so I applied two stars.

The food was good but did not live up to all of the hype. The most flavorful food I had were the mashed potatoes. I'm addicted to mashed potatoes in general, so I'm easy to please in that regard. The inside dining area was small and cramped and very noisy, particularly on Monday night when I was there. There is a special performance, happy hour that attracts revelers as well as diners.

The food was fantastic and the band was amazing!! Our waitress was super kind, helpful, and patient. Our vacation to New York was great and we would definitely come to Red Rooster again.
I highly recommend this restaurant, it was a memorable experience and totally worth it! Thank you so much to Red Rooster for putting the cherry on top to our vacation!response / report this review -

This place is one of a kind! The most unpretentious spot I've been to in years! Great food, wonderful, great jazz super club that turns into a disco at 1130 on Saturday! The crowd was mixed, friendly and ready to mix and mingle! Go alone or with friends you won't be disappointed!

Today was my first time eating at Red Rooster. I made a reservation for brunch and chose the deviled egg appetizer and the yard bird as my main entree. The hostess was super friendly and professional! I was seated outside as requested and on the table was a dirty glass turned upside down which I noticed were on all the tables. Why have that as decor? Yuck. The deviled eggs came out fast as did my entree. I mean like within 5 minutes which I thought was awesome. The deviled eggs were good but I wish the portion of fried skin was larger. The entree is where the trouble began. I was given white and dark meat. The crust on the white meat was not cooked all the way so there was a layer of corn meal mush over the chicken and the dark meat barely had any crust. The collards were awesome! It was supposed to come with sweet potato mash but they gave me old red potatoes instead. They tasted reheated and were cold. I informed the waitress and she was attentive and said she thinks they ran out of sweet potatoes. The manager comes and states that the sweet potatoes are not ready to be served and that he would give me a different side with no charge. I thought the no charge part was hilarious. Why would you charge me for a substitution of something you don't have ready. I ordered the mac and cheese. This took a little longer to come than the rest of my food so I knew it would be yummy. It was cold, watery, and disgusting. I ate one bite and asked for a carryout container in which I left on the table. I explained to the manager that if they would have told me before bringing my food they didn't have the sweet potato mash I would have chosen a different side. His remark is that he will make a note of that. What a smart remark. A friend of mine is hosting a dinner here in a couple of weeks and I am not looking forward to it. There are so many other restaurants in Harlem that are much better.

Decided to have brunch here on Sunday morning. Reserved a table on open table to beat the line. We were able to sit outside. Staff is very friendly, we ordered the cornbread for the appetizer, and the french toast. The portions were perfect, no too small or not too big. The flavors were delicious and a great twist on some classics. The cornbread was 2 pieces, served with honey butter and tomato jam. The taste was great! They had live music playing inside which was a nice ambience on a Sunday morning. Highly recommend going here!

We traveled from Nantucket to NYC specifically to go to The Red Rooster. My husband knows what a huge Marcus fan I am so he booked the reservation as a surprise for me. This place did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and at ease. The energy and friendliness of the Rooster was everything I'd hoped it would be. I am also a pretty big foodie, so being able to see the line of cooks preparing such amazing food was fun for me. The hostess, who was so gorgeous my nine year old couldn't stop staring, was so friendly and wonderful with our two young daughters. The food is interesting, prepared perfectly, and there is a good mix of all of the styles and flavors I've come to associate with Marcus Samuelsson. The fried yard bird is a must have. Also, get the Yes, Chef cocktail. Lucky for me, my husband also got me The Red Rooster cookbook so I will be attempting to recreate these favorites at home!
The Rooster is nice, but more importantly it is fun and welcoming from the second you walk through the door. This is truly a happy place! I can't wait to go back!response / report this review -

The food was great. Our waitress had great customer service. My issue was My girlfriend and I are pretty sure that the cooks forgot our order. There was only two of us and I never complain about wait times but when a family of seven walks in 15 minutes after you and gets their order first. something's up. We also noticed the bus boys would bring out orders to the patio looking extremely confused. If I didn't speak up about our corn bread I don't know if I would've got it. We were pretty sure the owner or manager came out to talk to us when the food was taking long. She was nice but, was just out there to reassure "it's coming". No apologies nor offered for something to be comped. Our waitress did apologize when we got our bill. I would try them again when I visit NYC hopefully on a better day.

Very cool spot. Food could have been a bit better as we tried "the best" things on the menu and they were just "good". It was quite refreshing to see such eclectic decor and inclusive imaging in the art. I love that it brings black and white people together in such a well celebrated environment.

Beautiful ambience, great music - really GREAT MUSIC - food and cocktails. You definitely have to make a reservation. I had a vegetarian gumbo as my main course and it was delicious. I'd also recommend their corn bread! - yummy! I would not recommend the place for a first date or if you want to enjoy a conversation, the music (once again) is great, but too loud.

One of my colleagues recommended getting together at Red Rooster. Wow! Really great Southern style dishes! Reservations recommended! I had the shrimp and grits. Excellent! Grits nice and fluffy. Other dishes at our table included the crab cake fritters and chicken n' waffles. Both looked really good (I'll order next visit!) Atmosphere is relaxed and neighborly. Live music in the evenings make this a great hangout. Dessert special was a little disappointing--- it was a chocolate cake that was dry and hard. But the fresh fruit was great.

Went there this morning for a family gathering and early brunch. Luckily there was a Harlem Gospel Choir Entertainment. Had the best time ever at a Restaurant. The food was Amazing. I had the Egg White Spinach Omelet with trucker fries and biscuits. Delicious! Each of my daughters, G-daughter and son in law had a different dish and they were very happy with their food. The waitress was Emma and was supported by several other hosts. I can't thank this staff enough for the Amazing food, Service and Entertainment. Above and Beyond our expectations!
