Red Ginger is a very nice upscale downtown Traverse City restaurant and bar. Great happy hours. Love the lemongrass martinis. And the shrimp and chicken curry is the best!

This restaurant was a great surprise. Sometimes restaurants in tourist towns are overrated and overpriced but this one definitely is not. A local resident recommended it and we are really glad we followed the recommendation. The sushi is great and we loved the Thai curry chicken and the wagyu beef.

Over priced sushi for what you get. Small portions and nothing special. Not high quality in my opinion either. We have tried it a few times to see if there was something we were missing, but we were not impressed. I think you're paying for the prime location and atmosphere over the food. I really don't know why everyone loves it so much.

I dont want to down play the food. It was definitely good. And the service was phenomenal with a great atmosphere! I just dont think the food matched the high prices Which is why I am only giving it three stars. I have been to some very high end restaurants that were well worth the price. This is not one of them. Still a nice experience though.

The goal, for any Traverse City, restaurant should be to provide the same level of service YEAR ROUND as they do during our slower seasons. Unfortunately, my experience with Red Ginger THIS WEEK has not matched what we have come to expect from this venue. I spoke with Pam & Abigail within the past two days in an attempt reserve a table for four during the upcoming weekend. Pam was rude, dismissive, and even explained to me that she "had a line out the door" and could not take the time to discuss reservations with me. To her credit, she gathered my information and placed a return call to me later in the evening to inform me there was a 5:30 opening and to return her call to accept it. I did that today, once while their voicemail picked up, and again at 4:00 when I spoke with Abigail. The 5:30 was NOT held for us. There was no reservation in our name to confirm, and Abigail offered little in way of.well, anything. It was a waste of my time. We frequent this venue often, YEAR ROUND, as residents of TC. If reservations are difficult for your hostess team to navigate during the busy season, I suggest you outsource calls to a dedicated team of professionals that can support your vision for the high quality client services that match your price point. When the tourists leave, you're stuck with us, the locals. Enjoy the busy season. Dave at Amical got us right in.

This is a personal favorite of my wife's and mine. Best sushi in town for sure. Sake and Japanese beer always available. Fantastic place for a business dinner or company party (we've done a few!). Right in the heart of downtown, next door to the State Theatre. Take your lady here!

The food was delicious and service exceptional. Very pricey for the amount of food. Love the little plates so we can enjoy a variety of items. Got dessert and we were shocked to pay $6 for a piece of cheesecake that was literally the size of a half dollar. Two bites each-- it was tasty but $1.50 a bite is way out of line. Took home a couple of things and asked for the sauce for each to be included. They literally scraped out what was left in our sauce cups, which was not enough. Again, for the prices they charge, they could have swung for an extra cup of sauce to take home.

Food was spot on, service failed to meet expectations. Private room of 12 was treated like an after thought. Unfortunate given the required spend and general expectation. Not once were we asked about food, drink or serviceto me, this is a significant letdown. Plenty of place to spend money in TC - next time we will take our business elsewhere.

The service was exceptional, some of the best I've ever had. The food looked exceptional, and the others I was with enjoyed it; however, it wasn't my style. No knock on the Red Ginger. The manager (I think) even came by and refolded one of our napkins and then shook my hand when we leftwho does that? Red Ginger does that.

Sleek upscale atmosphere. Happy hour tuna rolls and spring rolls were dry and tasted pretty prepared ahead of time. Good experience with the staff.

I would give this place 5 stars but the manager was kindof weird. The hostess told us to take a seat in the bar lounge area which could literally be anywhere in the restaurant. He waved at us and made hand gestures to move out of the "restaurant" area. We both thought he was kindof rude about it.
We sat at the bar, and the bar tenders were really friendly, they liked to talk to the people and have conversations the drinks were well made not too weak and not to strong. Also we ordered some sushi which was very good. We will be back.response / report this review -

Didn't realize they have a dress code until we arrived, but they didn't follow their rules anyways - so I was able to dine there. Just be aware that they do have a sign calling for business casual/formal attire. Anyways, great food and service here; we loved it. We got a spicy tuna roll and Vietnamese Shaking Beef and shared both (3$ sharing plate fee). The food was delicious, albeit a little on the salty side, but still delicious. Will return again if we are ever back in Traverse City.
