My experience at Phoenix College was good and bad. There are some good instructors who are good at their job. They are very good at explaining the material and offer great study tips. There are some instructors I felt should have never gone into teaching. The really bad experience I had at Phoenix College was with veteran affairs/financial aid. My paperwork for benefits was constantly changed during the 2016-2017 school year so that led to an over-payment. I did not know about the over-payment until I was told I had a debt about 5 months later of just over $700. I was in the middle of moving so that bill came at a very bad time.

I loved Phoenix College. Of all the educational experiences I've had, this place I learned more about myself and be an adult more than anywhere. Met so many great people and enjoyed the downtown life of the area. If I ever move back to Arizona, I would love to teach there. P.S. as long as you avoid the advisors you'll be good. They give horrible advise lol

Avoid this school at all costs!!! They have the worst customer service. It is sheer bedlam. The financial aid office is being outsource to call centers all over the world. This school doesnt know the first thing about customer service. and accountability. They are the worst. I do not expect a knowledge deficit to come from the internal bodies of academia.

I used to work for Phoenix College years ago and I had such a disturbing experience before I left that I want to make sure it is shared here to prevent other students and staff from the same experience, especially during these times when safety comes first. I was teaching a Massage Techniques II class for a cohort in Spring 2012 where Dianne Geddis was my boss and Nathanial Scott was my new teaching assistant. All seemed to be going well as I had taught this course at another campus for years and I talked with Nathanial prior to let him know my expectations to get in the same wave so we could work together well. He was enthusiastic, I was excited to have him along. Massage Tech II is a much more rigorous class for massage students, more science based, faster paced, and it's necessary to have a seamless flow between teacher, teaching assistant, and students because they get overwhelmed quickly and it is predicted they will. I knew this but my TA did not and proceeded along with a "take charge" attitude of the teacher because he was previously allowed to do so with both Dianne and other instructors. In my class and teaching though, because I've experienced the students' overwhelm in this class pace, knew how the class needed to proceed. There was also a significant amount of personal issues with students in class that also was affecting their ability to be successful. Nathanial, my TA, consistently was having a power struggle with me in class, trying to test everything I would say or do, was critical, or simply tried to put the attention on him when as a TA, he was there to support the teacher, support the students, and really help move the class forward. Students were more used to him than me, so it made my job harder because I came in with a different way of doing things that fit a faster paced class. We didn't have time for ego issues because the students in class were mostly young and needed this time for professional development as well as skill development as a healthcare practitioner. Nathanial continued on with both ego and power struggles to a point when I needed to ask my boss to make adjustments and switch TAs or let me teach the class on my own because the TA would give incorrect information or make everything I shared with students a power struggle. There was a student who just had her mother pass away, and it just was not the time, as she was trying to finish and keep up with the class. At one point, the students were frustrated because the TA would make loud noises during exams trying to get attention, and I finally asked my boss if he could be relieved. She said yes, and would talk with him as it would happen in a few days. I felt the TA needed to know from me so I told him in person as a last ditch effort to see if he would come around, change his demeanor, and be more supportive in class. Dianne was out of town, and as I told Nathanial this in some quiet time before class in a backroom while the students were being talked to by a psychologist in the classroom, he suddenly started shouting at me, yelling at me, and telling me that "I was going down." It was so bad that everyone in the front room heard it, and another TA/instructor was around to see it and we nearly called the police. Nathanial called Dianne, and I asked Nathanial to leave for the remainder of class. It was not, and I seriously mean this, it was not a safe environment based on the look he had on his face. If he had come back to the classroom, I would have called security/the police. Dianne chose to take his side, and I was called into a meeting, and we parted ways. Dianne was laughing. She had been my mentor for years, and suddenly a TA that yelled and threatened an instructor (emotionally and physically) was made okay and I was told that I shouldn't have told him until she got back. She didn't tell anyone that Nathanial had this kind of psychological history of attacking and it was dangerous. This was unacceptable and unsafe. I hope these situations are given much more mature and correct attention for safety in the future.

I really like this place, even when I get bad news from financial aid, I still want to take classes here. The only thing that keeps me from giving the last star is the students. This is a community college, but no one wants to socialize. Everyone is here to take classes, not make friends. Boo! :/!

Phoenix College is a very beautiful college. The tuition is also very affordable. The staff are very friendly, and always eager to help. I was taken on tour by a woman named Casandra who also happened to be one of the people leading my new student orientation. She genuinely cares about making sure you are as prepared as possible to begin your academic journey at Phoenix College. So far my experiences with this campus have been great, and I would recommend that you look into attending this college.

My experience with advisor Julie Aldan was not pleasant. As I sat down first thing she asked is "what can I do for you". Please explain your title again and what it is you do for us> Go figure. Stupid question starting off. I explained to her I wanted to get into the nursing program that I had visited another college were I felt I was not really helped or pleased with info they gave me and how they were putting me in a class I felt I did not need and not want to waste my money on she looked at my placement and stated " well you only scored a point higher so I think you should , you can try to get into another class maybe but no point this class they gave you will just make you a better student. She Was very discouraging , no motive to even enroll or want to enroll to phoenix college. She had no desire to guide me and explain class I would need to take only thing she did was gave me a paper with pre req and stated rhis is what you need to take in order to enroll in the nursing program its a 4 semester wait so that is your choice if you want to enroll you can try to go to a university but its VERY VERY challenging and difficult its not for everyone. Don't understand why she is offering it then. Horrible advisor just for that deff will not enroll to phx college.

Phoenix College is a compact community college with many traditional and vocational academic degrees. Tuition within the community college system is hands down the most affordable way to pursue a higher education. Professors and educators are generally helpful and passionate. Dealing with administrative staff can be difficult so I recommend the following: 1) Do your Fasfa early in the year. 2) check in with your financial aid officer or advisers often ((really bug them, it's your education, show them you are on top of it)). 3) Find a degree path and classes that correspond to it and try to stick with it. While there is no shame in switching majors -- remember that fin aid is dependent on your academic performance.
