Friendly information center. Easy to find and beautiful. Short loop hike about 2.4 miles around. Look closely for the petroglyphs. Go toward dusk and you may be visited by coyotes-no harm- as well as rattle snakes, lizards, jack rabbits and birds.

Amazing, inspiring, and thought-provoking! Highly recommended. No cost. Three separate areas, but you need a vehicle to access these from the main visitor center. Hiking with in each of these three locations is very reasonable and not overly strenuous, minimal incline or change in elevation. Great on a cloudy day from the standpoint of photography.

Located just outside Albuquerque this is such an amazing place. Thousands of years of history that is now being surrounded by modern houses but a very fascinating place none the less. You could easily spend all day here and not come close to finding all the hidden petroglyphs.

It's a great place to go for a walk but you will need to drive between locations since they are all fairly far from each other. It was a nice stroll, but I was somehow expecting to petroglyphs. Still a nice weekend stroll. You'll definitely need walking shoes, but it's not a super challenging hike.

Great for a day trip. There are a few different hiking trails to explore. Nothing that is too strenuous for younger children. If you go to the visitors center you can watch a quick film about the petroglyphs to gain a better understanding of what they are.and who made them. They also have a great little gift shop with cool item to purchase. If you have school aged children with you ask the rangers about participating in the junior ranger program. It will keep your kiddos engaged, and if they complete the activity book they receive an official junior ranger pin AND patch! My little guys are so proud of themselves for completing it!

Another amazing stop on our trip. This was just amazing, the park rangers were great and there was lots to see! I would recommend a stop here.

Everyone loved this! From my 3 year old to the awesome 73 year old from New York that we met on the path. The Petroglphs are very easy to spot.

Trails were easy and well marked. Informative signs were posted along the trail. Unfortunately they do not allow dogs. Even on a leash so make sure you visit on a cold day if pup has to stay in the car.

Cool place to explore. A lot of the petroglyphs are pretty faded now, but some are very clearly visible. Good distant views of downtown Albuquerque as well.

PLEASE READ: Petroglyph N.M. itself was beautiful and absolutely worth seeing, and the landscape and ancient history are why it gets 5 stars. However, WARNINGâš âš We went on a 1 mile loop hike and left our car in a full lot and came back to our passenger window smashed out and all of my money stolen along with other personal items. There are warning signs not to leave anything of value in your car, please do so! We are traveling from VA and are lucky they didn't take everything we had.
Worth seeing the petroglyphs, I don't regret coming! This is not a complaint of the nature and fun filled trails, just a warning to fellow travelers, do not go with your stuff.response / report this review -

Signs posted along trails are more informative than usually found elsewhere. The visitor's center is 2 miles south of the petroglyphs and most trails. The extinct volcanoes can be seen from the spots on the higher trail and there are additional trails there. Those trails are are a short drive away

Go to the Volcanoes Day Use area (far west side of the park off Atrisco Vista Blvd.) if you want to avoid people and/or take your dog with you, as dogs are not permitted on most of the trails around the visitors center. There are incredible views of the city of Albuquerque and the opportunity for some serious quiet time. Walk up/around extinct volcanoes. Plenty of parking. Not sure of the specific hours; they do close the gate close to the road at night, but many people just park at the gate and walk in after dark - I've never had any problems. Stunning place at night. A hidden gem within 20 minutes drive of the city.

This place is so beautiful. The volcanoes are manageable size to climb and it's worth it because the views when you get to the top are amazing. A must see if visiting.

Even though we don't have time machines, we still have the opportunity to take a glimpse back thousands of years. According to the its website, no one really knows exactly what all the glyphs mean. It's incredible to think I'm still enjoying this ancient, art gallery so many thousands of years later. At about 2 or 2.5 miles it's pretty easy, bring water and sunscreen though!
