For my money, Pequod's is the best pizza in Chicago. Both the deep dish with the carmelized crust and the thin crust are delicious. They have a good selection of toppings and appetizers, which you might want as pizzas take a while to cook.
They're a busy spot, and even with an upstairs don't have that much space. If you come during a prime time (Friday / Saturday night especially), expect a wait. I've waited upwards of an hour here before. If that sounds too hard, save yourself the trouble.
But for those among you with patience and virtue, the pizza here is well worth your time and (cheap) money.response / report this review -

I went here at 2pm on a Tuesday to have time to enjoy the experience. The sauce was excellent, the meat I ordered tasty, the carmalized crust well done, instead. Still I enjoyed the Pizza with soul. My waiter: Bridget (had to find out her name from my receipt) never offered her name, or much else after she took my order except once I ate half of the small pizza (about 6 minutes after it arrived), “Can I get you a To-go box sir?” The entire visit lasted one hour. The expected 45 minutes for the pizza, and the other 15 minutes Bridget seemed to either, have a plane, or train to catch, or she figured since I only wanted water and I was by myself I was not going to leave a tip. Bridget, I work in the service industry too, that’s not service, that’s “get out of here.” How long have you been in the “service industry?” I hope you’re in school for another career because this one isn’t working out.

Pequod’s Pizza, one of the most famous destinations for deep dish or as they call it, pan pizza in the city most famous for it is a destination worthy of a dedicated visit.. A dive bar atmosphere pervades, but it manages not to feel seedy or gross. The inside is deceptively massive with multiple floors and rooms, so even though it gets packed, the wait time is only occasionally prolonged. The longer wait is for the pizza to actually be cooked, but we end up only waiting maybe 20 minutes even though we’re told it will be 40. There’s even beer available from some of the local craft breweries and not just the big domestics as you’d expect at a dive. The deep dish is succulent and doughy. Each slice requires diving in and indulging in a monstrous bite. I love a good pepperoni and this pan pizza has a good pepperoni.

Really hard not to give this place 5 stars but the place was wicked packed (as you would expect with a popular place). They said the pizza would come in 45 minutes and it took about 55. We were in a bit of a time crunch so that's sort of our fault but things were a little chaotic and I wasn't a fan of the high seats. Despite those things, the food was really good and they had a good pale ale on tap. I would recommend ordering ahead or do call-ahead seating. Definitely a cool vibe there!

Eating at Giordano's and Lou Malnatis's is one thing, but if you want home made Chicago style pizza than you have to try Pequod's. It's just a better version of the big name Chicago style pizzerias. It's better because the entire pizza is super crispy on the bottom and fluffy in the middle. You're also not overwhelmed by cheese like most places do. The sauce is also thicker and chunkier than others. You can actually see the olives and mushrooms that are in the sauce. It's also very filling too. I ordered a small for myself and could not finish it. I would definitely plan your evening before coming here because of the standard 60 minute wait. I ordered over the phone and it was ready in exactly an hour. I thought about dining in but the line goes out the door and the people looked tired and hungry. The dining hall is a bit small for the crowd they draw and has that retro brick walled pizzeria look with different pictures and signs all over the place. It's pretty loud inside too. Definitely go here tho and try the pizza. You'll love it

Pequod's is a must-try! Especially if you are visiting the Chicago area, and want to sample some great Chicago-style pizza.
Even if you don't usually prefer deep dish (like me), you will certainly enjoy the deep dish at Pequod's. You'll find more info on their site, and menu, about their unique deep dish baking process. Their deep dish takes a while to make (I think about 40 minutes), but it's well worth the wait. The toppings are all high quality, and they're generous with the toppings. They also have a great selection of draft beers, including several excellent local craft brews.
And don't let the long lines turn you off. You can pre-order your pizza when you request a table, and it'll be ready shortly after you're seated. You'll often see the owner at the restaurant, and he is really friendly and helpful.
I've sorely missed this place since I left Chicago, and make it a point to go there whenever I'm back in town.response / report this review -

Best deep dish (stuffed) pizza in Chicagoland area hands down! It's a pretty small space for those wanting to dine in, so be aware it can fill up rather quickly. But the atmosphere is nice, wait staff is attentive and friendly, plenty of flat screens available for those who are catching baseball/hockey/football games. The beer selection is not too varies but it's serviceable. Overall though, if you're coming for the pizza, you will not be disappointed. I brought a friend here from out of town and she swears it's one of the places she would definitely come back to if she were in town again.

The atmosphere is very casual and local. You are welcomed with pretty friendly service. They are nice and patient. The pizza is less doughy and saucy compared to all the other deep dish pizzas. The sauce isn't as tangy. The sleeper here is the meatballs. They are some of the most tender meaty goodness that I have had. The sauce that they come with is rich in flavor and had a subtle smoky flavor to it.

Holy crap. This.is.Chicago.deep.dish. But seriously, the way they finish the pizza on the flat top leads to an extremely crusty, burnt crust that takes this pizza style to a whole new level. A much welcome change from the doughy, flakey standard style. Good beer selection, great decor, long wait (usually a good sign). Friendly service. Try it!

I'm torn as to how to rate my visit. We went in for lunch, they literally hadn't even opened when we got there so we had to wait outside which was fine. So we're the first ones in and we are seated. After what I considered to be too long of a wait, given that they just opened, our server came over to take our order. She didn't smile, didn't ask how we were she just asked if she could take our order. I saw a sign when I walked in that said the wait for pizza was 45 minutes so I started by asking if that was accurate, because like I said we were literally the first ones there. She said yes so we decided not to order pizza because we had other things to do and didn't want to wait that long. We ordered, our food came out and then we left. Not once did our server come to check on us or ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. It wasn't until we asked for our food to be packed when we were done eating that we were offered refills. Overall the service was pretty bad. The food was good though. Maybe or server was having a rough day before work but if I'm sitting down to enjoy a meal I expect a certain level of service, especially if you want a tip.

I usually find pizza crust to be an insult to the rest of the pie but pequods deep dish crust is a gift for the crust haters such as myself. I don't know what they do to it but it's amazing. I'd order just crust as an appetizer if that was possible. Also the pizza is very good, possibly the best deep dish in town. Definitely not a good spot if you're on a diet because you would hate yourself and your salad while everyone enjoys the heavenly pies served up here. Takeout can be a pain as there's no real waiting area and I'd recommend adding 5 to 10 minutes to the time quoted on the phone. Worth the wait

Been here once so the sample size for the service given to me is small but I can tell that they just always give good service here and dont make you feel uncomfortable. Pan pizza is delicious, really worth the money. I love my pizza nice and toasty and that's how it was made without even asking. So if you don't like it toasty I suggest you say that when going.
Appetizer platter worth it as well, cheap for what is given in my opinion. Overall would recommend and say is a just for whenever in Chicago if your from out of town or actually live in Chicago but haven't gone.response / report this review -

I am a huge fan of deep dish and this spot is one of the best in Chicago.
A lot of deep dish places in the city are chains, even some of the best ones, but this one is not which gives it a ton of street cred.
Lets start with their crust, a very important part of any pizza, especially deep dish.
It's amazing. It's thinner than most and although it may look burnt it's actually just blackened with tons and tons of flavor so don't skip eating it.
The cheese, sauce, and pepperoni (the last pizza I got from here) blended together in a perfect mix of flavors and textures that only deep dish could.
Their ingredients taste fresh and are very flavorful. Some of the better pepperoni I have had in my life.
