MY DAUGHTER TOURED THIS SCHOOL TODAY WITH THE BETA LAMBDA EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE COLLEGE TOUR AND THE PRESIDENT MICHEAL SORRELL NOT ONLY HUMILIATED AND EMBARRASSED HER BY FIRST ASSUMING SHE WAS A MALE BECAUSE OF HER SHORT HAIRCUT BUT POINTED HER OUT AND ASSUMED SHE WASN'T FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS WHEN HE ASKED ALL THE MALES TO STAND.. WELL SHE DIDN'T BECAUSE SHE'S A 17 YEAR OLD YOUNG LADY!!.. HER SHORT HAIR,NOR HOW SHE DRESSES SHOULD MAKE ONE HUMILIATE HER DUE TO THEIR IGNORANCE!!.. THIS MAN DON'T NOT APOLOGIZE EVEN AFTER FINDING OUT OF HIS IGNORANCE THAT SHE WAS IN FACT A FEMALEIS THIS HOW WE TREAT OUR CHILDREN MR.SORRELL?? I would say Paul Quinn College (PQC) has really been great to me the entire four years being there! This school is for anyone trying to better themselves and their community. If you are willing to put the work in, PQC has many opportunities. Small HBCU that packs a powerful punch! :)

This is actually one of the worst HBCU's in the country. It has a graduation rate of only 13%, and half of freshman don't even return. The financial aid is awful, there are great state schools for much lower costs.

just saw the segment on the real sports with bryant gumbel "arms race" of the gross mismanagement of finances for sports vs academics. the president of paul quinn college, mike sorrell, deserves praise for making hard choices, and making every effort to better the college situation for his students. very impressive, hopefully his school is as impressive.

Inspiring story on HBO Sports about colleges and huge athletic deficits that charged the students more money, to pay for their expensive football program. Paul Quinn College decided to cut football to help the students pay lower tuition, thus more affordable. "The best interest of the students comes first." They also built a farm on the Paul Quinn football field. This is used to reduce student cost. Students can work this farm each year and earn $5,000 towards tuition credits and save $20,000 from student debt by the time they graduate and learn how to farm their own foods.

We can only hope more colleges can follow this lead.
