The Christmas tea was beautifully done and worth the wait. Once the doors opened, the line moved pretty well. We were treated to caroling, coffee and their signature coffee cake with a well-done lesson on the goings on in the actual historic kitchen. Then we watched and learned about candle making. We moved on to an impressive miniature model of historic Old Salem and concluded with a reading of the Christmas story highlighted by a beautiful nativity scene --very moving. All the costumed performers we're very knowledgeable and personable.

We visited Old Salem on a whim because we had remembered what it was like when we were in middle school to go visit. My memories from middle school were amazing so many little shops to look in, bakeries and activities! As an adult my husband in the I pay the admission fee and took a stroll around. Well very cute and unique I would say 75% of the shops were closed and there was no activities or demonstrations going on. The best part about it was the bridge that you cross going in and the bakery but I would not visit again.

Great history lesson right in the middle of a modern city. 2 period restaurants inside the old town. Cobblestone streets and actors inside some of the old buildings showing how things were done. Interesting life those Moravians's lived back in the day.

My family and friends came here for the Moravian candle tea in early December. We loved it. We even had three 10 year old boys and they were entertained the whole time. We sang hymns while a 200 year old organ played, drank great coffee with sugar cake, learned about old time life, candle making n such. Being here makes you wish you had lived in the 18th century.

Great place to take the family. Had an awesome time with mine. The buildings have been restored and look great. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend buying some of the freshly baked bread.

I didn't go in the museum but walked in town.
The old buildings are well maintained. The tavern restaurant is quaint and has a good menu. The Flour Box Tea room also has nice menu and old charm, with outdoor patio with occasional live music.
A big problem with walking around Old Salem is that the old brick sidewalks are extremely uneven due to tree root upheaval. Be sure to wear flat soled shoes! If you have balance problems, you may want to use hiking poles, canes, or walkers.
The sidewalks ought to be levelled and reset.
The area is a great place to get a sense of the history of the area.
The strollway that is a little to the west goes north into downtown Winston-Salem and also connects to the South with other trails that go to Salem Lake and other places.

Love this place. The entire family had so much fun! Take walking shoes and plan to eat at the delicious tavern! Takes a full day to experience everything!!!

This was absolutely gorgeous. I loved that the people who worked here dressed up like the Moravians of yesteryear. They were extremely knowledgeable about their areas where they were located. The fact that they still make guns and bake goodies the traditional way just blows my damn mind! I highly suggest a visit here if you're in Winston-Salem!

This park has been maintained very well. Old Salem Park & Museum host events regularly during warmer months. Guests are free to walk through the park/village, as well. If you're in the area and enjoy history, check this place out. There is a similar park (although smaller, less developed, but just as quaint) called Bethabra Park.

Went here is November 2007 and June 2016 and each time had an awesome time and took pictures. Had to travel from Cary but well worth the drive and a good restful way to spend the afternoon. They give a AAA discount if I remember correctly. Staff are very friendly and hospitable. I will definitely visit here in future with my parents.

This is such a fantastic place to experience. You can walk around Old Salem multiple times and see new things each time. The buildings, gardens and costumes are so beautiful and authentic.

Where is the Old Salem that I visited as a child??? Not here!!! Nothing to do and only one place to eat! It was Mutts on The Meadow day and thank God for the town pump The nostalgia is gone and I was so excited for my children to be able to experience my childhood memories and instead we were excited to leave! So Sad!

I'm not normally a history dork, but man I was impressed. A little pricey but really, really worth it. Without the ticket you can walk around but not enter any of the buildings which is completely the point. The employees are not volunteers (though some are) and they do not sit on their phone until someone comes in the room. They are actively communicating and keeping busy.
We walked into one kitchen and she was actually reading the original recipe with ingredients were sitting by the fire. Then another man played the piano for us and you could tell it wasn't the same song over and over for people; he actually shuffled through his papers to choose the one he liked most.
Its also amazing to know that if a window or decorative item breaks they take it over to another building to use the original technique to fix, and also a demonstration.
I don't say this very often, but I really cant wait to come back!
