Location, location, location. This place wins on location. Right in front of the beach, with views for miles, it's the quintessential San Diego beach getaway. That said, it could use some updates. The room interior seemed dingy and old. BUT, there were lots of upscale lotions, soaps, and shampoos, and service was great, so it keeps most of its stars.

Right on beach near pier. Room was nice, huge shower. You can park until 3pm the next day, so you don't have to move car to stay in area.

Always stay here when we come to town. Walking distance to all you need. Beach is about 50 yds away from hotel. Clean, newly remodeled and you can't beat the price!

Had a good experience here. There's some sketchy activity on the corner across the street but nothing I was too concerned over. Room was good and loved being right on the beach!

My first stop in San Diego! I was stationed at Miramar years ago and used to hang out in OB. On a whim in 2014, I decided to stay at the OB hotel. It was great! There's nothing fancy about the hotel itself, but the staff is friendly, it's right at the beach and pier, and within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and nightlife. This is almost always where I stay when I come to SD, at least for the first night.

Great location overlooking the ocean. Nice clean room. Located next to awesome restaurants. Rooms were pricy for Tuesday/Wednesday stay.

How bad could it be? Bad.

The rooms are overpriced for what there are. Yes, its across the street from the beach, but lets not kid ourselves. It's Ocean Beach. Its a dirty little beach city. While eclectic and surrounded by great food, its still surrounded by drunk drifters and sketchy people in general.

    Pros:
Its dog friendly. Although, the dog friendly rooms are $100 more expensive than the regular rooms.
It has a courtyard that is blocked off from the hustle of the beach in front of it. I was able to have a few beers in the courtyard. not sure if that was policy.

    Cons:
Its way too expensive for the quality and location of the hotel.
we paid $450 on a peak night for a 2 queen room with private patio.
The private patio oversees the sidewalk of Newport where 100% of the commotion is. Its loud until about 3am after the bars close. This includes motorcycle and car noise.
There are MANY drifters that range from harmless to slightly sketchy.
The room itself was neglected (think old apartment) with a tiny, grime and rust covered bathroom.
The walls are and ceilings are thing so expect to hear EVERYTHING your neighbors do.
During my stay, the patrons above threw their trash to the street from their balcony and even emptied their coolers to the balconies below.
They advertise free breakfast, but not even a cup of coffee was offered.

If this room was in the $150-200 range, I probably wouldn't care as much but I have stayed on the beach in much nicer areas for cheaper.

The location is wonderful, and almost every room has a view of the ocean. The restaurants nearby are tasty and reasonably priced. My favorite was ordering burgers to go and eating them in the courtyard at the hotel overlooking the beach. Bed is comfortable and the room is clean. Only downside is that the parking spaces are kind of skinny, but we're walking everywhere so not a big deal.

I would of gave this place 5 stars upon arriving than
    1. We get to our room and it smells like a rotten toilet. Floors were soaking wet from being mopped. (They obviously used dirty water but come to find out, 4 days later the smell is still there.)
    2. No Central a/c.. or heat you have this small unit that cannot be moved around the room and which gives no cold/heat to the room..
    3. No microwave.. toaster amenities are not good.
    4. We get "yelled at" by staff at 930 p.m to tell us to quiet down..
We did .. 5 mins later.. she is back because of a room complaint that "we are to loud and they want to sleep" this is ocean beach! We are outside.. hanging out.. not causing any problems we decide to go in.. knock at the door by an angry neighbor telling us to "shut up" office staff side with them..
We. For one, we're not out of line. 2. Paid the same price, or around, to stay here we should be able to act like adults and have fun while on vacation.. we were stalked.. followed.. and prowled on by the office staff. Completely uncalled for.
(Our phone also rang 3x by them!)
Never. Ever. Again. Will. We. Stay. Here.
Go some where else if you want to enjoy your vacation.

Wonderful location and staff! You can't beat being across the street from the beach. Rooftop restaurants where you can enjoy great local food and breweries. Not a fancy place but cozy and clean. I will definitely return . You can walk to shops and many restaurants. Don't miss this place. Their website has a 24 HR beach camera. Check it out

The hotel was advertised and had pictures as if you walk down the stairs there is sand, we booked the hotel under the impression that it was like in the photos. It was not, the beach isn't that beautiful or nice as Mission Beach, and there is absolutely no soundproofing between rooms. You can hear everything other people are doing. Wasn't a bad stay, but not what I was expecting for what I paid for.

An incredible hotel that is tucked away from noise and surrounded by gorgeous gardens. Having to drive thru a guard gate was a plus for a sense of security and serenity. We booked 2 nights and were surprised at how well appointed our room was. We loved having breakfast in the restaurant on the 1st floor. Sitting outside feels like you are in Italy. We enjoyed music in the lounge both nights too, its just one entertainer, but enough for a quick cocktail before leaving for dinner, or returning to your room. We will definitely go back.

The service was great! Got in at 3am. The service attendant helped provide bedding for our young daughter (the don't have roll away beds but they have portable play pens for younger children). Great bed! Handicap room and bathroom, frig, spectacular view, the beach is across the street! Good price for the location.
