Always took a trip to myakka when I was a kid now got the chance to take my own kids didn't get to do the air boat due to weather but still drove through the park and saw some alligators they loved it. Will be sure to return next time I'm in the area.
Lots of trails , fishing etc... best part is the giant airboat ride around the lake. Bring your camara you will see plenty of gators here. Fun for one or the whole family
Very nice. Cabins, RVing, glamping at it's best! Birding, canoe, hiking. 76' tree canopy observation deck, bring a quarter for bi-noc.at top. Alligator galore n to eat at beautiful giftshop restaurant. Also airboat tours. Numerous trails, numerous pavilions playgrounds bathrooms. Don't forget to see far south trails. And north Fox trail. Love the Myakka.
Here you can both watch gators on the river bank and eat gator (in the Pink Gator Cafe). And yes, it tastes just like chicken.
Lots to see and do. Biking, hiking, bird watching, camping, climbing the lookout tower at the treetop canopy walk, taking tram tours or an airboat tour. You can also spend the night in a log cabin from the 1930's.
In the summer it is pretty wet, with many of the trails and the campground pretty soggy and muddy. Winter is the dry season, with lower water levels, causing the wildlife to be more concentrated and visible on the river banks. That is the best time for bird and gator watching.
The park was developed by the CCC, the Civilian Conservation Corps, in 1934. The visitor center and log cabins dating from that time are constructed of Cabbage palms. In the visitor center you can see displays of the area wild life and an interesting video telling you about the park.
We have had so much rain this summer, leaving the trail to the treetop canopy walk impassable. Too bad. It is my favorite part of visiting Myakka.
My review is strictly on the canoing and kayaking. I thought it was ok. The river is really wide with few tree canopies for shade and rest. Also there are no docks or any places to stop and get out. Lots of gators! Nobody around for miles in case of emergency. Rentals were relatively expensive. No deal for full days or multiples..
