I candy stipe (volunteer) here. The staff provide great care. The cafeteria usually has good food. The coffee shop always is the place to go, especially for milkshakes even if you don't have anyone to visit in the hospital. This place gave me one more reason to be a doctor.
Some one else said it best MMC's slogan should be come here to die! If your having a scheduled surgery you will be treated with more respect and have an ok experience. Ive never heard anyone complain about the new life unit.
HOWEVER if you are in sever pain and in need of immediate attention Your better off driving to Erie or even Pittsburgh . It will take less time to be treated and you will be treated with respect. I went into the ER and after waiting for nearly 2 hours on a day where there might have been 3 other patients i was finally given x-rays to find out I had broken my hand in a total of 5 different places. The nurses acted like i was there only seeking pain medication, (which i had refused) they could not have been more disrespectful . After my last experience here and along with knowing a handful of other people who have gone to MMC to be misdiagnosed. or treated as only drug seeking when they were just looking for needed medical attention makes me suggest that anyone with any serious injury go else where for treatment. I could go on and on and on with the multiple different horror stories that have personally happened to me, my family and friends. Its amazing to me they havent been sued for malpractice yet.
Surgial experience: My mother had surgery here - my first experience with this facility. My sister and my wife stayed with my mother. They told her to come in at 9:30 a.m.; when she got there they informed her that her procedure wasn't until 12:45, but they have people come in THREE HOURS ahead of time "just in case" they need additional prep time. Then they left her laying on a gurney for 3 hours waiting. The procedure took longer than expected, and no one ever gave my sister or wife any updates. When I called the hospital to try to get an update, the PACU nurse was incredibly rude to me on the phone. Very disappointed by this experience.
Treated me very nicely. Fixed my problems.
The Nurses are truly off the chain when it comes to being polite, helpful, and caring above all elseThe Dr's, well, not so much..
