Just had a truly horrible customer service experience at Louie's backyard. My wife and I have been there several times before and have recommended to a number of friends. Unfortunately after the experience we had today at lunch not only will we not be going back but we will tell our all our friends to avoid this restaurant.
They made my wife's French dip sandwich incorrectly and loaded with onions. Not a big deal. They offered to remake it and she requested provolone cheese which they have in their kitchen for their burgers. The manager came back out again and explain that their chef of the last 40 years refused to change his menu and offer my wife the provolone cheese as she requested. Not a great response considering my wife has multiple medical issues and has to be very careful what she eats. Again not the end of the world but the woman who is the manager was so rude that I went up to speak to her afterwards. I explained we are canceling our reservation and would not be eating here again and telling our friends the same. I suggested that in today's world of social media to lose a customer over this and to get the bad ratings over a simple piece of cheese was silly. She couldn't have cared less and gave me a current thank you and sent me on my way.
I hope the owner of this restaurant reads this review and considers training his manager at the front desk during lunch today how to service their customers with the respect they so deserve!
Elegant setting, attentive service, wonderful view of the sunset. Very close to the southern most point of America. Tapas menu at 5p, dinner at 6p. Cocktails on the oceanside deck. Nice!
Great food but far too costly for even lunch. Great view if you sit on the patio/deck in the back with ocean view. It would get 4 stars if price were a bit less. Two lunches and two drinks were $70.
Delicious food, but somewhat difficult for someone with dietary restrictions.
When ordering the thai chicken salad, i asked if i could have avocado and tomato instead of chicken and was informed that i would be charged an additional $2 for the additions. On an already overpriced $16 salad with the main ingredient removed this was ridiculous. After explaining my concern to the waitress she said she would ask the chef and luckily did not end up charging me extra.
The waitress was not at all friendly and had a downright palpable attitude. She argued with me about how i would be charged extra before speaking to the chef. When i asked for some oil and vinegar when the bread and butter came out she rolled her eyes and reluctantly got it for me. She checked on the table next to us twice as much as she did us and was just not happy or friendly towards us as she seemed to be with others. We were the youngest table in the restaurant in our 20s and 30s, and the waitress was an older woman and i am not sure if that was why we were not treated as well as others, but we had not been rowdy or loud and were completely respectful.
Despite the sub-par service, the food was good and the view was utterly breathtaking. 3/5 for the poor service, attitude and high prices
Great grouper and grub. Scallops on the app were excellent. Staff was friendly
and attentive. Will go again next time we are here
Louie's Backyard is an island gem not only for the view but for the cuisine. Open for lunch and dinner daily (but closed for part of September) they have local seafood on the menu and creative dishes which change seasonally on their regular menu.
One of my favorites appetizers is the Conch Chowder. It comes with their own Bird Pepper Sauce on the side. Another seasonal dish is the Lobster in Truffle Butter. It's best enjoyed with plenty of Louie's fresh baked bread.
The dinner menu has a nice variety of seafood, shellfish and meat. One of my favorite dishes is the Shrimp & Grits. It's served with applewood smoked bacon. So delicious you can't help but eat the entire plate.
And for dessert, please try the Creme Brûlée. It's not your ordinary one, this one has a hidden brownie in the bottom of it!
This was one dining experience we will never forget! Our first time visiting Key West and we were looking for a romantic dinner on the water. I couldn't have envisioned a better spot! The views were breathtaking and the candlelit tables/string lights created a perfect atmosphere. Aside from that, we both agreed that the service and food was the best we have ever had. A memorable night out from this years trip to the keys.
I have been going here for what seems like forever and never had anything even close to disappoint. It is an iconic place with Really Great Food and service. The views are wonderful. One of my Favorite restaurants, Anywhere.
The Afterdeck & Louie's are adjacent to our resort we stay at every year and absolutely love (Coconut Beach). For the convenience factor, we spend a lot of time and money at Louie's. The food and beverages are good but the staff (manager) and some of the servers/bartenders, are not the friendliest. Views/location/menu are very good - just keep your eye on some of the staff and their attitudes - it can vary from day to day!
Really awesome little spot. Had reservations on the back porch and it was perfect. It is right on the water, so if you can get a reservation earlier while the sun is fading, it would be even more beautiful. Charming location and house! Would recommend!
It rained almost the entire time we ate outside at Louie's Backyard, and that didn't hinder our experience at all. Maybe it was a little Key West magic, but more likely it was the quality of the food and the amazing views (there were also umbrellas over every outdoor table).
We started with anchovy-stuffed fried olives which were out of this world! There were so many delicious menu options - it was hard to pick!
DEFINITELY sit outside. You are right on the waters and the views can't be beat. Totally worth the moderate price tag (one of the only moderate price tags in KW) and the rain if the weather is against you. Tucked away and off the main street, you have to look up directions, but you won't be sorry!
We went to the upper deck restaurant which has tapas dishes to share and every single thing we had was amazing. You get the amazing view and sunset as a free bonus!
We had a wonderful brunch here and the afterdeck can be actually beautiful at sunset. Next to a dog beach so be aware of that. We are locals and know that this is a higher end menu inside or outside dining. So bring some extra cash! Nice place to celebrate occasions. Lunch or dinner. Super spot too for just having cocktails at sunset if you want to look at menu first then make reservation for another time. Service is good too!
I came here for my wedding dinner. Looked nice, menu sounded incredible. Reservations or not, be prepared to sit on the deck for a while before dinner. They start seating at six. So if you make reservations for 6, you'll sit on the deck until they've seated all of the other folks that made reservations for 6. Then you. The waiter was the only thing that wasn't a total disappointment. The wait for an entire nine dinners was about an hour. Six o clock on a Wednesday night mind you. Not by any means were we in a packed house. For around $45 a plate I was really hoping for hot food, especially after the wait. No luck. The meals were less than appetizing. I desperately wish I could go back in time and chose an alternate restaurant.
