Lone Star is one of the oldest lakes around here. Predates the much larger corps reservoirs. Built as a WPA project and county owned. There's private frontage around half of the lake, but also public use areas and swim beach.

The original weekend lake in Lawrence, this is where the University of Kansas Concrete Canoe team practices, of which I was a member for many years. The grass along the road beside the lake, especially near the North East edge, is always mowed. This is important as this is where most canoes and kayaks launch from, requiring cars and trailers to park in the grass besides the road.

The house containing the restrooms has always been unlocked and clean during posted hours. Furthermore, the swimming pier is always removed within the week of swimming season ending and returned the week of opening, showing constant attention to the facilities. Furthermore, there is very little trash besides some unfortunate cans here and there, but the sand on the swimming beach appears to be cared for.

Overall, this is a great place for swimming in the summer, and boating or picnicking year round. I do not have experience with camping here.

Small and usually not very crowded which is good. It's a good place to take the kids to explore since there are always interesting things to see which makes great nature lessons.

Great place for having a relaxing time. People goes mostly during summer and like to enjoy the beach. It is a great place for fishing and swimming. It have a place for camp but it is usually packed and you must have to have your own RV

Great beach area to swim. Camp I g areas need up-graded. Clean picnic areas throughout around the lake. Nice place to fish.

Quiet lake with a few good picnic areas, and a designated swim area as well. Some of the picnic areas have a small fire pit, so you may want to bring your own grill!
