Had fun at the Easter egg hunt today!
Great Place to enjoy the outdoors & lake “fishing, boating, camping Gotta love it!!!
Been going here since I was a kid. I absolutely love it here.
Took our first trip to Pomona ever, we went because we were told it was a nice place to camp and everyone was super friendly. While this was true about the state park we had a less than favorable experience with Lighthouse Bay marina. There is a fishing dock at Big Bear, apparently it is leased by the marina from the state park. This dock has fallen into disrepair, it’s really a safety hazard. While it is posted no trespassing I assumed it was meant for campers only. My friend and I were out fishing off of the dock, and we were approached by a very unpleasant woman. Who I now know is Shelly the wife of Bill the owner. She asked us to leave which we complied with her request but I did ask for clarification as to how the dock could be private property on a state park. I asked if it was such a hazard why don’t they just pull the gang ramp out of the water? She started taking pictures so we apologized and went about our day. This occurred around 10:30-11:00am. Dinner time rolls around and this strange man starts poking around our camp site taking pictures and scaring our kids. When we confront him he gets in black F350 and leaves without saying a word. So my friend and I find him at the marina and ask why he was taking pictures of vehicles, and license plates and scaring our families. He said he was angry about a Facebook post that was made about the incident earlier in the day. His intention was to intimidate us, funny thing about all of this is I have a 24’ pontoon we were looking to put in a slip next year. I will be finding a Marina ran by adults, if the condition of the marina’s facilities is any indication of how repairs are made I wouldn’t take my boat to Bills shop. Funny thing is I have heard from other people that the couple that run the marina are mean miserable people and this is a common occurrence. Probably won’t go back to Pomona because of it.
Big bear loop small loop near water great view of lake. Only wish for a littlw better cell phone coverage.
Good place. Family fun.
Clean & friendly along with available Sunday church service.
Love going camping here, best time with my family.
Been camping here for many years - no complaints.
Camp sites were pretty well kept. Patrols like ranger and park attendant we're scarce. Some loud party campers should have been made to be quiet after quiet time. Marina right at park.
went camping with family there. we couldnt decided where to go. we didnt want to spent a lot. so we reserved 4 primitive camping sites there at the pomona lake. .we paid 30 dollars per site for 3 nights each. when we got there . we had to paid extra . 15 dollars per car . and 45 dollars for xtra tent. supposely they allow one tent with adults and another one with kids. so we ended paying 120 for the four sites. plus each site got more than one tent with adults. so 180 extra. 300 dollars. the restrooms werent that clean.. the old folks driving around. checking the tent tags to see we paid for the xtra. come on its. a park a state park.
Clean and quiet park
A year later, STILL THE BEST LAKE IN KANSAS!!!!
Great place for families to boat, camp and play
Nice enough place. Not crowded. Just the usual opwi thing (other people with issues). Very quiet at night, no road noise, no trains, etc.
5 stars for a reason(s). Excellent place to tent camp. Lots of tent camp grounds with fire pits. Definitely felt or was safe campgrounds are well patrolled, had no problem leaving camp site to go fishing/swimming/etc. Lots of trees, it's an older and well established facility, with an incredible amount of different bird species. Bring binoculars. The lake is visible from campgrounds and within walking distance with easy access to the water for fishing from bank, or swimming, or boating. Very courteous staff. Bathrooms and showers are in great shape and very clean. Well done Vassar State ParkThank you!
