The hike isn't too far to reach the overlook. You have two options as well. A short, steeper climb straight up, or a longer, more meandering, less steep climb. When you reach the top, if you climb over the wall, you have a better view of the lake but the rocks, if wet, could be slippery. We went when the fall colors were gorgeous. There were quite a few people there and the selfie sticks were a little out of control, but we still managed to get a few good pics ourselves. A nice quick stop. Please note that you do need a state of Michigan recreation pass to enter the area which was about $9 for the day.

Even on a rainy day this is an easy walk of about 50 yards on a boardwalk. Many trails available for the hikers. Beautiful view that should not be missed!

Beautiful overlook with great trails around it. Can be a bit crowded since it's so close to a parking lot, but there are multiple overlook areas which is great!

Reviews stars, words and pictures are not enough in the entire universe to describe this place. The view is outstanding and the hike from the parking lot to the overlook is hardly 300 ft. The road is wheelchair accessible. Pets are allowed and have to be on a 6 foot leash. My dog and I took some great pictures at this location. There are two views; to the right is the mountains and the river while to the left is again mountains but the lake is surrounded by them. Fall colors are spectacular from here but I just missed them regardless the place is splendid and also the highlight of a visit to the porcupine mountains.

I visit the Overlook for its breathtaking views every couple of years or so. It's one of my highlights during my fall vacation. For those that find walking difficult, after a couple of very small flights of stairs, a wooden walkway comfortably winds its way to the Overlook, where you'll find gorgeous views that won't require climbing atop the rocky slope. Worry not.

You'll have to pay a small fee to the Michigan DNR upon arrival to the Overlook, but it's good for admission that day to other sites. I had visited Bond Falls earlier the same day, so they didn't charge me another fee at the Overlook.

Wow! What a great experience. It is as beautiful as it is challenging. We hiked 20 miles over 3 days to reach the summit. Of course, we could have parked in the parking lot there too but we took the long way along the lake and the Big Trout River. Beautiful park. Enjoyed the old growth Hemlock forests the most.
