Lafayette Towers is the worst experience I've had in regards to living arrangement. I just recently moved out and can tell everyone doing the same will make you feel better also. I lived there for three years after my cousin had referred me here. The first year into it was just fine then when Lita Johnson took over everything went downhill. Whoever is reading my comment can clearly see from the other reviews and ratings I am NOT the only one who has this issue. First of all Lita is the most unprofessional, rude, and racist woman I have met and does not do business with Muslims. My second year of living I was constantly harassed by Lita that I should move out and find a new place to live because she didn't think I could handle the rent because I made them aware that I had switched jobs at work and during the month of June 2015 was about a week late on rent. Sounds to me she wanted me out to flip my apartment and make more money as I was paying 690$ for my studio which was being advertised for a higher price online that SAME month. Second I was harassed once a week by security who would cuss at me (which by the way he doesn't even work there anymore shocker ) his name was Monty because I had my medical card and was threatened that they would not renew my lease because of it. In the state of Michigan you cannot deny someone residence for medical reasons and Lita would tell me if I kept using my medical card she would refuse to renew My lease. So I decided to leave. No other apartment complex I found had a problem with someone legally using their medical card on the premise but for some reason Lita is just a mean miserable sad woman who wants to make everyone around her feel the same way possibly to make her miserable life better. I highly doubt she has children because she would make a horrible mother . a week before I moved out my bike was stolen in their garage with the chain the security there is a joke. Whoever is reading this in the three years I lived there four cars were stolen . it is not a safe place to live. The management is some of the most disgusting , dehumanizing people I've ever met. Lita Johnson please learn how to be a human being and maybe you wouldn't be as miserable in your life as you are. maybe Lafayette towers would not have an average 2 star rating. it is very scary to me that most of the comments below are also in regards to what a horrible woman Lita is. she always has a scowl on her face. Normally I don't pay attention to negative reviews if there are a few but ovee THIRTY reviews and most of them are about how rude the staff is. This needs to be a wakeup call for Lafayette that at this rate they will be known as one of the worst places to live. If I was a manager I would want to make changes and ensure my residents enjoy their living. it seems Lita finds ways to make peoples lives a living hell. Again I am sure it is because in her personal life she is miserable and wants to project that unto us. Maybe she is divorced maybe a family member passed away maybe she experienced pain but I would think that would make her empathetic to other people. Again just very sad to see such a beautiful complex have an average 2.5 star rating. I found a better apartment which is cheaper and the management treats me like a human being not just an ATM. again Lita if youre reading this maybe go to therapy and find ways to cope with your emotions so youre not being evil and nasty to other people.

I decided to live here based off of recommendations from coworkers. The leasing office pushed my move-in date back from a Tuesday to a Friday so they could "ensure that my unit was in the best possible condition for living." They had to redo the floors. That wasn't a big deal until the leasing office called and told me (didn't ask, straight up told me) that I couldn't move in until Monday. My last day in my previous apartment was that Sunday so I couldn't wait until Monday. Still not a huge deal because I was still moved in by the time my other lease was up (and they covered my first month of rent which was very nice.)

I went to my signing appointment and there was an extreme lack of communication from their end. It all started when the lady helping me sign said she would email me my welcome letter the next day and didn't do it until the next week when I had to email her again reminding her. When I went to sign my papers, she never told me I had to sign up to use the freight elevator which caused issues the next weekend when my family came from Ohio to move some furniture in and we didn't have anywhere to put it. When I asked the security guard what to do with my furniture, he said, "I don't know. Send it back to Ohio?" with a very apathetic attitude.

Fast forward to my second week living at Lafayette Towers. Lots of annoying little problems, but nothing I couldn't handle, until I sent in a work order to get my cable outlet fixed. Maintenance came to fix it but only replaced the outlet face and not the actual outlet. I sent in another work order to get it redone. A week went by and I heard nothing from maintenance. I had to call the leasing office to speak with the leasing manager. I told her about my frustrations with the leasing office and the lack of communication and she put all of the blame on me, not believing that nothing had been communicated to me.

Here I am, seven weeks later, still without any cable/wifi because the complex hasn't even started on a rewire for my unit. They're expecting the process to take another 30 days at the least, but I honestly don't know what to believe. Who knows if it'll end up taking another 7 weeks.

TL;DR: Lafayette Towers pushed my move-in date back twice in order to "ensure that my unit was in the best possible condition for living." It's been 7 weeks and I'm still without wifi. If I had known that I'd have to go that long without wifi/cable from the beginning, I absolutely would have gone with a different complex.

I'm willing to give Lafayette a chance to improve and gave them seven weeks before writing my first review. After seeing all of the bad Google reviews, I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to give the place a try. If my experience improves, my review will improve as well.

Management is pretty brutal, no doubt (real Detroiter). I try to move in some stuff after 5PM which is not allowed. Manager came out and reminded me very rudely what’s in the lease and gave instructions to security officer, I wouldn’t be able to remove any of my stuff from the car, total lockdown and ask me to remove my small trailer from the property immediately. I have some grocery, got wasted.

The new Lafayette towers has made many upgrades over last two years. I have been resident here for the last five years, therefore i know from experience the time and quality they have put into making our living experience the most comfortable as possible. However, with many new added features, such as new upgrade security system also new state of art cameras; including 24 hour mobile security monitoring the complex. Last but not least the view of the city is amazing and staff treat you with respect and dignity. I highly recommend!!

Trust the reviews, poor customer service, they towed my car and locked me out the apartments because i refused to pay rent because lack of repairs and brown water from faucets. My tub had to be reglazed in 6mons of being there. I moved. Beware of this dump where they never paint the hallways either missing paint pieces on every floor hallway. And it's hard to find parking in the lot that you pay for because they over sale it. Causing you to park on the streets unsecured

Worst apartment complex I've ever lived in. Staff is rude and unprofessional. My fiance's door split in half because it failed to meet safety and fire regulations and they made us pay $1,200 for it. Now they are terminating my fiance's lease because they think she is smoking marijuana when its the people across the hall that security never does anything about. Rent goes up for no reason every year and its already expensive enough. The manager, Lita Johnson, is the rudest and unhelpful manager I've ever talked to

Everything is extremely outdated. Maintenance takes MONTHS to fix anything or they'll just close your request without fixing anything. Staff is rude. Security guards who sign for packages will "lose" them. Parking is cramped and cars have even been stolen, broken into, and vandalized in the parking garages that the security guards are supposedly patrolling 24/7. Great job security!! Rent will increase over $150 everytime you renew your lease with no upgrades to you. Definitely would not recommend.

As a current resident I would never recommend this property to anyone. The building is extremely poorly maintained and there is so much I could talk about that can back up my statement, but in the interest of time and most people's attention spans I'll summarize it. First few months of living there were fine but the first week my apartment didn't have power because the wiring was faulty and couldn't even support a coffee maker being plugged in, and the a/c units in the apartment weren't operable and had to be repaired. Everything was fine for a time until it started getting cold and the building didn't turn the heat on until about December, and even then it was still freezing in my apartment. The average temperature of the apartment with the heat on was about 42 degrees and space heaters will blow fuses. That is also worthy of mention that the whole building still has outdated wiring and the fuse box contains actual fuses and not switches. The parking area is always poorly maintained and if you get out of work past 8pm then you are doomed to park in a section of the lot where your car will get hit because space is so limited barely one car can go down the isle. I'm currently in the last few months of my lease and I have been stuck in the elevator multiple times and the front office knows of the issues and wont do a thing about it. Building security frequently lies to visitors and forces them to find alternative parking when the guest lot is empty, and the front door men will let anyone into the building. The only good thing I can mention about the apartment is the view I have and the helpfulness of the office manager Kim, she has a genuine concern about the residents. The same can not be said for the building manager Tasha, or the majority of the office employees who could use a course in customer relations. Basically, if you don't mind paying a premium fee for a good view and terrible service this is the place to be!
