Huge nature preserve. So many places to explore might take several days. There are two lakes you can get on a boat and go fishing from, one of the lakes by the campground has a little trail next to it. Woods woods woods. Nice hideaway from it all.

They want you to rent the whole campsite just to be able to use the York Lake dock and beach! I was going to use the dock to work with my Australian Shepherd on dock diving, but now won't be patronizing the state park at all due to this restriction.

Trails are great and camping is good. Would be better if they had working water spickets in the camp ground. Bringing in your own water for horse is a pain

Beautiful wooded campground. Several nice spots for both large travel trailers and tents. Beautiful pond and great walking trails. Nice bath houses. Nothing fancy but that's why we go camping is to get away and back to nature. If you are looking for paved pads and like home bathrooms this is probably not a campground for you. We had a wonderful peaceful weekend and will definitely return. The only thing I would watch is the descriptions of the campsites are not totally accurate on the website. If you are traveling in a large camper you might want to call and make sure the site will fit you.

Like going here. Pretty place to visit. Campground is OK, some sites are small or can be hard to get a camper into because of the angle or trees. Got a few trails to hike and playground for kids. Nice little lake with a stream below the dam.

Dirty campground. Nasty lake. U may not know but many years ago hundreds of people were on the banks and in the lake. It was a popular swimming hole. Lake has leeches. Campground area-some trees are too close to turns. If some of u love camping here. U have not camped much. Most sites are rough. Some pictures here r not kmsp. There is some good things about the park, just not camping. Roads are rough. There has been some repair this year (bridge). I know of no cabins to rent.

Sub Par, poorly managed, and just an overall forgotten state park in SC. "Lake" Crawford is disgusting with algae and debris. Pavement leading into the 1 mile long entrance is disgraceful. Only 116 sites but there are 4 campground "hosts". These "hosts" are nothing but homesteading campers whose presence is not necessary for a state park with next to zero amount of funding from the state. Do yourself a favor and visit more up kept and worthy parks in the nearby area.

The State Park was great to visit, lots to do and see and was very pretty. When you finish at the State Park side move over to the National Park side. When you watch the video and see what our patriots did for us you will be truly humbled. Walk where many brave men died so we could have a free nation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a visit to this historic place.

The state park is a rustic neighbor of the national park. We went to visit the living history farm and enjoy a picnic. Lesson learned : if you're going for the living history farm, go when they have a planned event. Otherwise it's several locked buildings and a cranky rooster. The short hike to the lake is pretty and an easy hike. The picnic site is home to a large contingency of geese that don't like to share living space. Knowing better, I would park at the lake and hike to the farm and back.
Unless their are other picnic areas and due to the geese, I would not suggest this park as good for picnics. The neighboring national park is a memorial site so there is no picnicking allowed there.response / report this review -

Campsites are not level and the dirt roads are washed out in places. The Junior Ranger program is not age appropriate for young children. One camp host did not keep a clean bathhouse while a host with a pink golf cart did a great job. Campsites had minor litter (cigarette butts, etc.). The fire rings were clean. The camp store/office is nice. AT&T cell service was 2-3 bars. Rates were reasonable.

Due to an issue with my son I was given 1 1/2 hours to break camp and leave the property! Banned for life by a young ranger with the thought that it made him a big man! Did I mention that i am a 59 year old physically disabled female? Or that we were in the midst of a thunderstorm?

Some areas are nice but some of the camping spots are too close together. The lower number spots are mostly bad but the higher numbers are better. Here are pics of spots 7, 97, 101,102.

Military Park at Kings Mountain was GreatState Park Campground Not!
Likes: The fantastic Military Park is right next door. The Campground Store is nice with helpful people.
Dislikes: Need more and larger direction signs in the campground (can't tell which way very small arrows are pointing until the last moment and good luck seeing them at night). Loop roads are way too rough (forget about keeping stuff in your camper's cabinets). The sites are not even close to being level making it difficult (or impossible) for folks to level their RVs. My site was so off-tittered it actually became a running brook during a typical afternoon Spring thunderstorm. The nearby restroom had no hot waterand still had none a week later. The water hose bib leaked profusely and the electrical box cover was broken. A dog's very loud barking could heard for 2 days and 1 night throughout the park without those in charge stopping it. The bathrooms have no garbage cans so you have to carry your used floss back to your camper to dispose of. There are no paper towels or dryers to dry your hands after using the toilet. Shower water pressure was a joke. Gate to lock out un-authorized visitors at night was left open and/or unlocked (actually it didn't even have a combination lock on it to use the code provided). Additionally, the gate kept wanting to swing back close making it necessary for me to hold it open as my wife drove through.
If South Carolina wants visitors who spend money keeping their folks employed, they need to fix problems like I noted above. This park has the potential of being something really special. Right nowit's certainly NOT!response / report this review -

From an RVers perspective, this is one of the poorest maintained campgrounds in South Carolina! We’ve been going to Kings Mountain State Park Campground for years. The road into the campground has potholes, roots lifting up the asphalt and tree limbs hanging over the road and leaning in from the sides are a real problem and has been for a long time. When it rains, it’s even worse. The roads inside the campground are like a battle zone with holes everywhere. The rain runoff has washed out in a few areas and not being repaired properly and they will continue to wash out with the next rain shower. The sites are in need of major leveling out. Having your front wheels off the ground to level out your camper is not a level site! Many sites have this issue. How hard can it be to use some leveling equipment to establish a level site? The old eyeballing it isn’t working… The dumps stations are overgrown with large trees and in poor condition. The water supply has been leaking for several seasons. Oh did I mention potholes are here as well?
The state did a fantastic job of repairing the road into Camps Cherokee and York. Why can’t they do the same thing in the Campground? The bridge replacement in the campground has been going on for months and still not done, just more rough roads. Don’t get me wrong about this place, we love the campground and the people! We’ll come back after the repairs are completed. Motorhomes and Travel Trailers be careful, you’ll do some real damage to your unit! My roof repair was just under $10,000.response / report this review -

We stopped one chilly clear morning in November around 8:30 as a break in a long day of driving. Sat on the porch of the log cabin with a coffee and watched the day begin. Absolutely stunning watching the mist rise around all the fall colors and hear the rooster crow. It looks like they have the farm staffed during the busy season with demonstrations. But it was the serenity that was the real draw.

Such a beautiful place! the perfect place to visit - talk to the ranges and they probably will be the must helpful.
It's obviously loved and well-kept. I'm in a group camp once a month or so, and I love coming up here!
You know, I can't think of a single thing to say that would be negative.
I guess some of the trails between towns and other area (stables, giant field up top in the back) could be better, and some smoothing action on the wide areas on the main trails would be nice. It's all perfectly fine if you're just walking yourself, but when you hav e to schlep a bunch of gear up here m 4 times you wish it was rather easier.
No, I don't have a solution, but I do have some ideas!response / report this review -

Very nice park with lots to do. Our camp site was a bit out of level for a pull through trailer site. The staff and rangers are all very friendly and helpful, The park is easy to get to, although you should search google using the town of Clover not Blacksburg as listed on the web site.

Could be very cool. The staff was less than accomadating. Just wanted my kids to see the trading post. They met me in the parking lot to say the were closed even though I don't think it was quite closing time.
