James Street was a great place to go for food and drinks but is unfortunately closed due to unfounded noise complaints from neighbors.

I heard this place is closing down in the next few weeks - and I see why. The reviews about the poor and curt service are spot on, so I won't reiterate them here. The food was actually good and the band was great. But, to add to the many problems already mentioned in other comments, their credit/debit card clearing machines went down the night we were there no problem though, they have an ATM on site. Well, when doing my budget today, I saw what I was charged to use their ATM - all in, it cost $8.50 extra to withdraw $60. $2.50 of that was from my bank, but the other $6 was in fees from their ATM. One $3 fee was for getting money out, and the other $3 fee was for a balance inquiry that I didn't even want, but ended up getting because the machine is designed to trick you into getting it (I didn't know I had 'requested' it until it spat out of the machine, and I didn't know I had been charged for it until today). They chose to put this ATM in their place of business, and didn't even offer to pay/waive the fees when their systems malfunctioned. I wonder how much they made from all the people who were more or less forced to use their machine that night.

Love this place. Downstairs is like a whole different place. Great music and good times if you're into the jam and blues scene.

Absolutely nothing fancy about this place but great food for a pub, great bar, reasonable prices and caters to all sorts. Been here for jazz at night, taken kids here after a day at museums, and always friendly no frills service with great food and rock solid beer selection. Sad to see this place go

Wowie. What a great place to eat. I'd recommend the twisted chicken. Why's it twisted you ask???!? While most chicken sandwiches are served on a normal bun, this one is served on a PRETZEL BUN. Of all things, a PRETZEL BUN. Twisted indeed! What will they think of next at the speakeasy??! Golly. Can't wait to stop in and see!!

Was part of the Pittsburgh underwear ride and this was the destination. The place located on a corner with street parking. The place itself is decent on ty wallet and their bar is well stocked. I'd recommend this place for a quiet getaway or a drink when in the area

Great bar on the Northside. Tasty beer and two big screens at the bar make it a great place to unwind. Fun food to meet up with friends. Basement stage for traveling and local acts. I am in love.

We went for dinner and didn't expect to get an amazing meal. I had pan seared chicken over an angel hair pasta. This was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had in my life. My fiancé got the Mac n Cheese and that was actually great as well! Service was awesome too!

Went there for Sunday brunch and was not impressed. Waited thirty minutes for food, which was rushed, unseasoned, and undercooked. We were told that because of a concurrent event, they were short staffed, which I understand, but there is no excuse to neglect the main floor. Hire another waiter.

I hadn't been to James Street in awhile, but was pleased to find it was still fun, with lots of good food. Unbeknownst to us, there was a dress-up event, so the restaurant was filled with 1920s-garbed groups. Even though we weren't dressed up, it didn't feel like we were left out. Great drinks from knowledgeable bartenders, tasty food, and a unique atmosphere. I think they still do concerts in the speakeasy downstairs - one of my favorite birthday memories was a jazz concert there.

Meatloaf,burgers,wings all fantastic. Good beer selection,good cocktails,nice venue for jazz.
