Called about a lost cat and the lady was not nice at all. She wouldn't even check because I didn't live in the town. I wanted to know if anyone could have dropped my kitty there. She gave me a different number and hung up.

George was fantastic! He was very compassionate towards the animals, thorough in his descriptions of the cats we were looking to adopt and knowledgeable about other animals. The issue I had was that I called ahead to find out the procedures for adoption so that I could come down and be prepared to adopt that day. They listed off what I needed and I was fine. We went to the shelter and once we found the ones we wanted to adopt, they then told us every member of the household needed to be there. Not everyone was there because we have a large family and various schedules. So we had to wait over Sunday because they were closed then schedule a time to return Monday. The problem is that my kids don't get out of school by the time we can all get down there, meet the animals and finish the paperwork. That means I would have to come a third time all due to logistics and lack of information. I would not say that this is the most efficiently-run operation.

The lady we encountered was rude and seemed bothered by us when we called about finding a stray that we wanted to bring in. She couldn't act like she cared less about the dog we had just found and she didn't care where it ended up.

The lady was rude. If you want people to adopt the animals there, then maybe the staff should be more friendly.
The animals outside don't even have water. A lot of them were impounded so you can't even adopt them.

If i could give them zero stars I would. Dirty, gross and smelly. Dogs are not cared for. Also staff thinks they ate a bunch of natzis lol btw the reason u most find pits is they are working with private shelters who want small.dogs. smaller the dog the bigger the feeand I know this first hand be couse I volunteer for many private rescues. Go to Babylon town shelter the staff is friendly And the dogs are loves and u wont get treated like garbage

Do not adopt their animals who are younger then six months because the Vet Tech spays/neuters them at 7 weeks old! THAT IS TOO YOUNG.
This can cause a medical problem as the pet gets older because their reproductive parts are not fully developed and will cause cancers, infections and various diseases. If you're going to spay or neuter your pet, wait til they are at least six months old.
The workers are not trained through school to work here, they were hired off the streets by the town and "trained" to work at this particular shelter.response / report this review -

Staff is friendly and receptive, they do their due diligence for keeping their animals safe. Very respectable demands for their adopters. Will likely adopt from them again.

This is a very necessary town operated facility to have. This is S.Denver Ave, off the eastbound side of Sunrise. 224.5660 . IT IS a euthanasia "KILL CENTER " which is done ONLY on THURSDAYS from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. , and 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
If you think your pet is worth it. and he isn't around all Wednesday, you need to take your morning OFF FROM WORK, and get into that building while also phoning the the police BEFORE 9 a.m. when the Denver.Av place opens.
I remember years ago, they were very specific about their "three-day-kill" rule, so if you lose your pet for even 24 hours, TELEPHONE and or GO INTO this PLACE and ask for the return of your pet, and bring a photo of you w/ your pet, for even more proof. Also politely ASK if you can LOOK THROUGH their row of cages calling out your pet's name. If they refuse, calmly take the time to call the police to the scene to DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT of "YOUR REQUEST", due to the circumstances of your pet being missing for 24 hours.

Clean, well run shelter. I've adopted pets and turned stray animals in so that can either be re-united with their owners or find a forever home!

My wife and I purchased our first home not to far from the shelter , we had decided after being in the house a month we wanted a dog . We looked at many shelters and rescues. We fell in love with a dog here , we adopted her and have been so happy ever since . We stop by every so often , say hi and drop off papers for the animals.
This is a no kill shelter , visit the web site they have many dogs still looking for homes that have been there for some time .
The staff is super friendly and were very helpful when choosing a dog . We had a no rush interview ( time to meet the dog ) . When we are ready to save another dog we will be returning for our 2nd .

I had a good experience with my dog.. His name was Wilbur and he was a long time resident..The place is clean.. and my dog was taken care of while he was there.. I see some dissatisfied customers, and I can't say they don't have a reason for their bad experience, but don't let that deter you from adopting from this place.. It is a Kill Shelter and the dogs need to get out..They have many wonderful dogs there.. Please give them a home
