Location was nice. Beach kinda sucked. Location of the private pool wasn't the usual beachside. Was new, but felt worse. Definitely feels like a value hotel.

We used Island Vacations to book a room at Shell Island Beach Club. All the staff were friendly & helpful. They were quick to respond to inquiries. Would definitely use them again.

I am writing this review the same day we arrived. Our room smells like urine. The solution so far has been to spray Febreeze into the A/C unit, so now we are breathing chemical-coated urine.

I will gladly change this review if the owner offers a reasonable solution. Instead, the solution has been to tell us to find a different place to stay because she does not have time to deal with us since tonight is the company Christmas party.

The CSR we talked to earlier said she would work on finding us another place. Fran, the owner, has not echoed any such sentiment.

Hopefully I can change this review by week's end. As of now, it's staying, Fran.

I'll update this review either way. Disappointed right now, to say the least.

UPDATE: we figured it out. The headboard in the master bedroom stinks like urine. I have called to have it removed. I'll update with how long that takes, or if it ever happens.

I rented a 3-bedroom house from Island Vacations for the month of January 2014. I was told it was one of their best rental houses. The house was advertised on their website as renovated, but all three bathrooms were very outdated. There were numerous maintenance problems to deal with including: ants marched up and down the kitchen wall for several days until an exterminator came; filthy air conditioning intakes; a light fixture in the ceiling over the bathtub was hanging loose; and there was no window covering on several windows, including the bathroom windows (although I had been specifically assured that window treatment was on all windows). In addition, dead centipedes were all around the edges of the pool, and the pool heater was insufficient to heat the pool so we could not swim very often. -- I talked with Allen (an employee) regarding these issues and he was very rude and argumentative. I also later talked with Fran, the owner, and explained the issues and Allen's rudeness. She was apologetic. I did not request a reduction in the rental cost, and Fran did not offer any, although it would have been reasonable for her to do so. I would not rent from this company again

We have rented through Island Vacations on Sanibel for the past 4 springs and have already committed to rent through them again in the spring of 2013. Additionally, this fall we are hosting are our entire family for a large reunion on Sanibel and for that we’ve rented five condos; again, all through Island Vacations.
We have been very pleased with every aspect of Island Vacations and the way they conduct business. The staff is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Two years ago the condo we were supposed to rent was suddenly removed from the rental pool by the owner. We were three weeks from arriving in Sanibel, had already purchased our plane tickets and our rental was for the height of the Easter/Spring Break season. Other rental companies may have just chosen to refund our rental fee and let us deal with the fallout, but not the staff at Island Vacations. They worked tirelessly for days and found us a very lovely condo. I am sure that Island Vacations lost out on the deal since the condo we ended up with rented for more than the condo we had reserved. But, they gladly accepted that loss as the course of doing business and in doing so, cemented even further the relationship we had begun with them.
All of the condos we have rented through Island Vacations have been well appointed and very clean. As a matter of fact, one reason we sought them out in the first place is that the first rental company we used on the island did not furnish us with a clean condo upon our arrival nor did it provide any cleaning supplies for us to use while in residence.
We have become very fond of each Island Vacation employee and know we can count on them for everything from a restaurant recommendation to helping us navigate the complex cable TV system in our condo.
We have recommended this firm to family and friends who have also been pleased with their services and have rented from them multiple times.
Island Vacations will always be part of our Sanibel adventure!!
