A bit of a drive but well worth it for train groupies. Several "barns" full of vintage locomotives and cars. Price includes a ride on a couple of different trains. Tons of space (100 acres) to walk and explore. Cafe was not open in April so bring lunch or check the site for options.

Great place for train obsessed little ones. Lots of trains to see and ride. Wish the barns where better lit and you could be even with windows to see inside trains. But well worth a visit.

Lots to see and do. Weekends in the summer provide lots of trains to ride. Watch their calendar of events located on their website. The Nebraska Zephyr is very popular, when it runs. They sometimes have the dining car in operation for lunch and/or dinner. Just riding or touring through the trains brings back memories of train travel during the golden era.

Fun museum for kids and adults. Ticket prices include train rides of they are running. Nice park for kids to unwind. Diner has good food at an agreeable price. Easily found off I-90. Some engines and cars are completely restored, others are awaiting restoration. All types of rolling stock, diesel electric, steam, street cars, and electric buses. You can easily spend a day there.

Loved the special holiday train ! the kids had a great time. Ample parking - easy access to food and amenities. A bit off road but kids love the country side. They have very good collections of working engines . The staff is very kind and helpful. They have a gift shop - the items are priced OK . Over all amazing experience and we will go there again.

Very large collection of railroad and streetcar equipment, signs and artifacts. Many working vehicles, miles of track in service. Two entire train stations on premises. Fun and educational, but a lot of walking to see it all. Moving trains, trolley cars, and buses mean small children must be closely supervised. See website for events, open hours, admission fees. Closed in winter.

This place is great for kids who love trains. We were last here for their annual Day of Thomas event, which is really incredible. But, even without that, there are tons of fun train-related activities for young kids. It's a bit of a hike from Chicago, but it's an easy drive and definitely worth it.

Loved it! Should have come here sooner. Riding on the vintage train was a blast. Admission was reasonably priced. There is concessions on the premises which were also reasonably priced. The line to get in did take a whileprobably a half hour.

This place is so fascinating! I love history, and this place is perfect for that. Also, my four year old son and 2 year old daughter love trains. This is of course due to television shows; Thomas the Train and Chuggington. They loved riding the trains here! Also, would point out things like, "That's a steam engine!" They had such a fun time! Also, it's great here because there is a lot of walking around which keeps you active; yet enjoying the sites.

Thomas and Friends day is great! The staff, which I believe are all volunteers, were extremely friendly and helpful. Get there early because it gets busy in a hurry. Lots of fun activities for a variety of ages. We took a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old and they loved it! We packed a picnic but there are refreshments and a diner and prices were very affordable for a family. Train rides are about 20 minutes. We purchased Percy and Thomas. One train ride is probably sufficient as they are nearly identical rides/experience.

This place is nice, I'm glad this kind of place exists. My only gripe is I wish a lot of the other stuff they have there was accessible. There are a lot of train cars here and we've been going now almost yearly and it's always the same stuff. What you see and can touch is only a small fraction of what is actually on the yard. I'm sure it's got something to do with getting cars ready for display or making them safe to be around. But I still wish there was more that could be accessed. Still love this place and I'd like to one day volunteer.

I had a great time here with my 2-year-old son. Highlights included the train-themed playground, the one-mile streetcar ride, the 35 minute ride on the diesel powered train and all the cool engines in Barn #9. All that was included in the base admission, and children 3 and under were free! We didn't eat at the diner, but it didn't look like anything special. I'd recommend packing a lunch and eating and one of their many picnic tables.

Free parking. Plenty of space for kids to roam. Train rides included in the ticket price. Nice electrical car, can be used as a shuttle. Enough trains in the barns to keep you busy for a while.
Pizza was not good and $5 for a reheated cheese only slice is too much A whole pizza is $30+ which could be acceptable only for a freshly baked one with 3+ toppings on the other hand ice cream was only a buck and there was A/C which is big relief in the hot weatherresponse / report this review -

If you're a train enthusiast I'm sure this place is great. If you're just curious it might not be worth the visit. Could be greatly improved if there were more/more engaging information on what you're actually looking at.
I personally was interested in the technical aspects and evolution of trains and the reasons why, but wasn't able to learn much.
Mostly it's just "this is the x train, which ran on y line during z time span".
Though on the other hand the staff are quite willing to share stories if you ask.response / report this review
