Well worth the visit! Staff is amazing! Tour is incredible. I highly recommend going on this ship. I enjoyed every minute of it. We took kids with us and they enjoyed it too.
Great visit of a historic, Coast Guard ice breaker. You can access the engineering and pilothouse. Not good for handicapped or young children.
This was totally worth it, gave a veterans discount and very veteran friendly staff was incredible very knowledgeable and super nice willing to answer questions and even show different parts of the ship not on the tour Lane would totally recommend was a great experience.
Excellent piece of history. It's surprising to learn about the tremendous lengths we went to stop the Nazis. Also, it looks like an excellent place for a scouting sleepover.
Self guided tour through the mighty mac. Really cool access. Not for strollers, the very young or older crowds. There are almost vertical stairs to climb up and down, pretty much the entire way. Not tough climbs but must be able to easily navigate to enjoy in my opinion. Overall cool as heck.
We thought the shipwreck museum was "good", but then we met Chuck. This guy was great, he had worked on the ship for 10 years prior to it being decommissioned, and he was so full of knowledge. He made the whole experience, we loved it. Chuck's passion for sharing the ship's history definitely had us engaged. He even gave other recommendations for interesting stops on our trip.
You're able to go at your own pace while you go through the ship, but there are plenty of knowledgeable guides to give you information and answer your questions when you have them. A great semi-self-guided tour. This is a run by a non-profit organization that definitely has a great love for the ship.
Awesome piece history to view, go back in time, staff very knowledgeable! !
Amazing museum. Self guided tour of the actual icebreaker Mackinaw. There are a few staff members station thru out that can assist and answer questions. I could have spent all day on this boat. A must see for any history or maritime enthuist. It's a real ship so I do not recommend any physically disabled person. There are ladders and small corridor's to get thru. I highly recommend this as a stop
The icebreaker isn't open for tours this time of year but just being able to see it is docked from the state dock vantage point with the bridge in the background is fantastic.
Hello, i have visited the ship many times it is awesome the staff is incredibly nice and most of the uniforms, bunks and other things were left. this was due to the fact that the new Mackinaw was a fully ready and more up to date ship. it helped many vessels make there way through the straits. and was truly a great museum
