I have to say I'm thoroughly disappointed in this Humane society. Last Thursday my boyfriend and I visited to bring the dogs some treats and we asked about Ava who just had surgery and wasn't adoptable yet. My boyfriend went back Saturday to see if she was adoptable still no. They told him to call back Sunday or Monday and see then. He calls back Sunday as soon as you open and she's somehow adopted already. Then you have the audacity to call me Monday telling me she's been adopted. If you had my number the whole time why would you not call when she became adoptable or during her evaluation to be put up for adoption since we were clearly interested. I was just going to let it go although I'm saddened we didn't get her because she would have been a great addition to our family but the more I think about it the more irritated I become. How could you just drag someone along like that? What if I had a kid and we picked her out together and the then I had to explain that for some reason we didn't get a call about her? And what kind of shady business are you doing that you'd act like that? It was quite rude, unprofessional, and highly upsetting. Not what you'd expect from an organization such as yourselves.
I'm appalled at the staff. Unbelievably rude. They told me that my family are animal killers because of my children and baby daughter. We wanted to adopt a cat that is able to be friendly to another cat which we have. Our current kitty loves our children and our children have never caused any harm to our pet. But, apparently the Humane Society knows about our family better than we know ourselves. We found the perfect cat here, but they refused to let us take him home because I have children. If anyone was a so called "animal killer," its the Humane Society. They put down more animals than a slaughter house. Never coming back and never recommending this place. If you want to adopt a cat, visit Cat's Meow Rescue and Adoption.
I Used to think very highly of the Humane Society and the work they do. I Adopted my dog from the Humane Society in 2013 and had a very good experience and thought very highly of the organization and the work they do. However, over the past two/three years, the organization has gone down hill! The staff front desk & management is been BEYOND RUDE!! The park, while nice floods very easy, especially during the summer. About, 18 months ago I asked if they had any plans to put a drainage system in for the park, I was advised no and told it was a retention pond. I Accused them of bait and switch and they told me to mind my business (Great Customer Service!!) Recently, they upped the yearly fee to $75.00 for the retention pond and in keeping with great management practices they decided to no longer take action if any kind of incident happens. When I inquired what I was getting for this increase, I was just told "Improvements." When I asked for them to elaborate on "Improvements" I was given a train load of BS, I felt like I was getting a response from a politician. The ONLY reason why I still take my dog to the retention pond is that he knows it and I feel my dog is safe, as opposed to the Vero Beach Dog Park.
I Will give them credit in that the facility is well kept, and they provide good care. However, they put more dogs down than a slaughter house!!! I Feel sorry for any dog in that place because if they don't get adopted out quick it's good bye!! When I got my dog I was advised by a volunteer that he was close to being put down.
As for management the board needs to clean house!! The amount of money that place takes in is amazing, and the amount management makes is astounding!! I'm all for admin staff getting paid a good wage, but you have a fine line, and when you have some admin staff making close to six figures and an hourly employee only making about $9.50 an hour what do you expect!! I Hope the board takes swift action soon and takes a close look at what's going on at that place, and cleans house before it's too late.
Friendly front desk staff, eager to assist in any way possible. They recommend animals based on your answers to their questions & make sure you'll NEVER go home with an animal you'll have to return. Cleanest facility in Indian River County. You'll never smell animals when you're there. New free dog park, just for signing up!
They do a great job for rescued cats and dogs. If your looking to rescue a cat or dog definitely check them out.
Was looking to adopt a bundle of love! Thanks exactly what we got. A 18 month old dog named Smokey. He is the most loveable dog. He even brings his lease. Sue was wonderful & so is the entire staff. My family was so impressed how clean & well run this facility is. Definitely recommend Vero Beach Humane Society if you are looking to give any animal a good loving new home!!!!!!!!!
Highly recommend adopting from this facility. For minimal fee shots and chip included. Kennels are clean. Animals are well taken care of.
Absolutely thrilled. Wonderful staff that was helpful and as happy as I was to be there. Blessed with a new fur baby.
Great place great people. Only website says open 11:00 am to 4:00 pm after driving 20 miles and arriving at 11:45 the clinic was closed for lunch. This is not cool, it would be nice to know when the doors are open.
