Terrific, rustic family experience. Hiking trails are spectacular, but intermediate skill level. Expect some steep grades and several stream crossings, but well worth it. Cabins are comfortable, clean and sufficient. Great place to get unplugged and experience wild, wonderful WV.

Love it here! Stayed at the two bedroom cabin and it was gorgeous. Food is awesome at the restaurant. Can't wait to visit next summer.

Love Holly River but don,t know if I will go back. They double there rated didn,t just raise them a little. No the state double the ratesbut love the park and all the help are wonderful

What I really want to do is give this place 0 stars. Not because it's bad but because its so nice that I don't want anyone to know about this place. I want it all to myself. I want to keep it a secret. But if you do find out about HRSP then you won't be disappointed. Nestled in one of the most beautiful untouched forests you'll ever see, this park has what you need to isolate yourself from the rest of the world. Cabins are very clean and rustic but modern enough to be very comfortable. Book your stay way in advance.

Nice Cabins. Fireplace too shallow, though. We liked the Nature's Rock Garden Trail. Waterfalls dry in the Autumn.

This was a last minute decision and I have to say it was one of the best camping trips I have taken so far. The campground and facilities were great. There is a lot to see and do.

I went here on a fishing trip with my 85 year old grandfather for his birthday and we had a great time. We rented a small cabin which was very cozy and had a fire place which was kept lit all weekend! They stocked trout right in our campground so we didn't have to travel far at all for great fishing! The restaurant inside the park had great food and was very kind and understanding with my grandpa who is a little hard of hearing. The owner found out it was his birthday and sent us with a huge box of delicious maple cookies she made that weren't even on the menu. She also gave him a piece of cobbler she has made and he was ecstatic. I will definitely be returning and would like to thank everyone who works for the park for doing such a great job!

My family has been going to Holly River since my oldest kids were babies 18 years ago, with the exception of 2012 when superstorm Sandy damaged the campgrounds. The entire park is absolutely beautiful and well kept. It's perfect for the solo camper or entire families, wether you're visiting for the day or staying for a longer period.
We've stayed in the cabins the majority of the times we've vacationed there, but we've also stayed in the campgrounds as well. The cabins are really something to behold. They're a bit rustic by today's standards, but they do have electric and running water. They have high ceilings with fans to help keep them cool in the summer, and wood burning fireplaces and electric baseboard heaters for the cooler months.
There are plenty of camping sites, all of them with updated electric service (completely replaced since superstorm Sandy). All of them are accessible from paved roads. Many are "pull through" with enough space for even the most spacious campers and/or RVs. There are four separate camp areas, each with multiple camping/parking areas. Each area has a bath house with toilets, sinks, laundry, and showers. There are also water fountains throughout each area.
As far as things to do, there are multiple hiking trails for every level. Some are very short in distance, and others that are several miles in distance. There is a swimming pool available for a small admission fee (free if you're staying in the cabin). Near the pool you will find a basketball court, volleyball, and shuffleboard. There are a variety of activities offered each week, and you can find out what is going on by checking the schedule posted at the office.
There is a full service restaurant in the same building as the office/gift shop. Good food if you don't feel like cooking. There is a small grocery store/gas station just a couple miles south of the park entrance on Route 20. The nearest towns are roughly 20 miles either north or south of the park. There is free wi-fi around the office/restaurant building. But don't expect any cell phone service other than that. There is supposedly one spot in campground #2 that can get a very small amount of service, but even so that may be dependent on your carrier. So if you're looking for an excuse to ditch the devices, there you go!
Overall, Holly River State Park is a great, relaxing place to truly get away from the hustle and bustle. Definitely take the time to sit by the river and enjoy the silence. You'll thank yourself for it later!response / report this review -

We love this place. The cabins are nicely appointed. The restaurant has excellent home made food and the staff is very friendly. I also like it that when we come her as a family we can unplug. no reception in the cabins:)
