The place is great. I loved hiking right out my door and beach as well. Usually I had that whole beach to myself.
    Jeff is an eccentric character.
At first I found him amusing, though near the end he became paranoid.
I always paid everything on time or in advance. I prepaid for time next year.. then all of the sudden he started panicking about the electric. So I paid him extra to cover electric.
Even after doing that he began harassing me.. harassing me while I was with clients, on the phone, hosting guests..
The final straw was this last day as I'm moving out he's threatened to call the police and have me towed..
I can find no rational reason for his behavior.
I have receipts for all my payments and I have been very generous and accommodating when he's come up with whatever random electric bill he gives me (which by the way has always been conspicuously higher than ANYWHERE I've paid electric on this rig before.)

I've also noticed him giving everyone a different price depending on how he sizes them up.

So listen, it's a great spot. Though I would say Jeff is temperamental and unpredictable. Stay here at your own risk.

I was warned. I didn't listen. And aside from his harassment being a pain in my butt, it's been fairly harmless.

Nice location but no maintenance and over priced. There are better options in the area! We got a house in the area two bedrooms cable and a clean bathroom. $400.00 for seven days. $25.00 extra for our dog. There are better options if you do your home work.

Great time camping at Gitche Gumee! We camped in a tent, the campsite was large and Ranger Jeff placed us in an area not near other campers as we requested. We were able to purchase firewood directly from the campground which was cut right in front of us. The bathrooms were a little dirty but we can't complain because we were camping and the showers had warm water. We did not look into any of the buildings; theater, game room etc. There was a playground for children, but we didn't see it. The location was great, only about 25 minutes from Munising and 10 minutes from Marquette. It was great being across the street from Lake Superior. We will be camping again at this campground.

We were searching for a campground to stay at. Pulled off to Gitche and we were the last campsite he had available. The man checking us in was super nice, and helpful. We would defintely come back. It's a cool looking place! Wish we had more time to spend here.

Pretty underwhelmed with my experience at this campground. We stayed for a week in a tent and had booked our stay a month in advance and was totally convinced and told that this place had the cleanest bathrooms around and great sites. I don't have any complaints about the site we set up our tent. On the contrary I was very disappointed with the bathrooms and showers. Bathrooms were dirty, dark and dingy. No soap, no paper towels, out of order toilets, and the toilets that do work had leaky fixtures. The showers are also very dark can't really tell how dirty they are because they are painted brown. Water pressure was a hit and miss. Showers would just stop mid shampoo. One day during our stay there was no water in the whole campground so we had to shower at the YMCA. The fudge shop and club house are non existent, the buildings a pad locked shut. For the amount of money we paid for this site I was really expecting better quality.

Decent, but overpriced campground ($59/night) which we discussed with the owner on the phone prior to arrival. Owner assured us that everything was included - $10 all you can cut wood, wifi, lodge, theatre, etc. None of the amenities were open the 3 days we were there and would only give us a bundle for $10. Confessed he has a bad habit of lying to get people in. He has some great ideas, you can tell he's a dreamer, but is not good at maintaining or customer service. Integrity is questionable. Bathrooms are dirty and campsites are okay, depending where you are. Location was great.

I had super high hopes for this place. After looking at the pictures and the story/history I was really looking forward to visiting.
Unfortunately we had to cancel the reservation (about 24 hours after making it) and after a friendly chat making the reservation, I figured it would just as easy to cancel, but boy was I wrong.
Jeff seemed like a very nice guy, but when cancelling he literally yelled at me on the phone. He refused to refund all of my money because I was "taking up space and making him lose customers" and does not have his refund policy posted anywhere.
After weeks of not seeming any sort of refund i called back and he had "not gotten around to it" and still had not cancelled the reservation! He asked if I changed my mind because I still had the spot reserved under my name!
A week later I called again and asked if "got around to the refund" and he said yes and hung up. Never really asked my full name or any ther information.
I never got a refund of any kind and other reviews say he did the same thing.
Why would someone even treat others like this? And how do you expect to stay in business?

Hello friends. This was a good place to camp. It had functioning bathrooms and showers. Definitely bring shower sandals though. The campsites were comfortably secluded for those wanting privacy but open enough to socialize with neighboring campers if desired. The campsite we stayed in had a lovely fire pit, water spout, a picnic bench, electric and cable hookup. Close to the highway, but it did not bother us at all. Fun place to stay if you're not too picky. Only downside is it's a little drive from Marquette. The camp ranger was a little quirky, but very helpful and nice. Hope this helps!!

This campground is not recommended! They said you can cancel a reservation without a fee and get a full return. False. I reserved a site and then the next day had to cancel and they refused to refund the money. They said it is not their problem that I can not make it. I would completely understand this if that is what he told me before booking the site. I specifically asked about the cancellation policy for this reason.
