VEGAN REVIEW - We came here because they offer a separate vegan menu, which I appreciate, since my guests are not vegan. Overall great service and nice ambiance. However, the only thing I really enjoyed from the vegan menu was the broccoli. The bucatini (which I was looking forward to) hardly had any mushrooms or tomato - so disappointing. I won't be coming back. I can make all of these dishes at home with more flavor for less money. Next time I will support a legitimate upscale vegan restaurant instead.
That being said - my non vegan guests enjoyed the meat and fish dishes.
I made reservations and waited around 5-10 minutes to be seated. The food was very unique. I tried to pig face since a lot of reviews spoke about it. I also tried the calamari and both were really good. Portions are a bit small. Between two of us we shared 2 plates and had a drink which was sufficient. If you are hungry they recommend you order 2 plates each. Would definitely return when I'm in town!
We have been trying to get to the Girl and The Goat for several years but our schedules just did not cooperate. We were worried that it could not live up to the hype. Glad we finally made it and it did not disappoint. If there was one word to describe the food it would be balance. Everything on the plate has a purpose and while each item is well made putting all the parts together creates a perfectly balanced bite.
The Girl & The Goat serves unique small plates and craft cocktails (and wine and beer of course). It’s not a very large restaurant, and it’s always very busy - even when I was there at 9:30pm on a Monday for dinner. So, it’s quite loud, and not the best if you’re looking for an intimate meal. I thought that the dishes were very creative and had impressive presentation, but overall I found them less impressive as far as flavor than expected. I think it’s a wonderful experience, but give that it’s extremely busy and always booked up, it seemed perhaps a bit over sold to me.
Amazing dining experience! Every dish I tried has excellent flavors and the menu is very well thought out. The staff is very nice and helpful . I went by myself and my waiter offered half portions so I could try more dishes - very thoughtful. Also the staff is extremely knowledgeable about the entire menu, including the drinks . Can't wait to go back!
Everything was so amazing! There were 3 of us so we got to taste a lot. We had the beets, the chickpea fritter (probably my favorite), the goat empanadas, pig face (don't pass this up just because of the name), the crispy pork shank, and the goat belly. I recommend every single one. The ring of fire is also an amazing drink if you like something a touch sweet and spicy. Definitely plan to make reservations a few months ahead of time if you want to come here while visiting Chicago.
Totally worth the couple of months wait after I was able to make reservations.
Plates are meant to be shared, so get a couple from each area of the menu. Everything we had was Michelin Start worthy.
Cocktails were great and the bill wasn't insanely expensive.
Definitely recommend if you can get reservations!
What can I say that hasn't already been said… I don't know. The food is fun, the atmosphere is inviting and the service was great. Could not ask for more. We let the waitress pick the dinner for us and not only did she have fun doing it, but she picked some great items for us to try. I have already recommended to my friends
My wife and I were looking forward to trying this restaurant over any other during our anniversary weekend in Chicago. We presented without reservation, but got an immediate seat at the bar. Ordered a martini, which was served in a weird margarita-type glass that wasn't iced as a martini glass should be. The beef ribs had more bone than meat, and the amount of meat couldn't have been 2 ounces. Same with the sockeye salmon, minimal amount of food. Both were delicious albeit. Pork shank could be a meal and was wonderful. Felt we wasted money on the first 2 very small plates. Waitress was lacking in table side demeanor. Of all the restaurants we visited, this was our least favorite.
Outstanding food, great service and delicious drinks. One of my favorite restaurants. Only con is you need to reserve a table weeks in advance. It is well worth it. The oysters were west coast, creamy and refreshing. The ravioli had an escargot filling which was very rich and tasty. The goat empanadas and skewers did steal the show. The desert was great too, just ate it so quickly that I was not able to take a picture of it.
Kelly was great. Gave great recommendations since we were a party of 13. Although some portions were a little smaller than we thought, we all got to try everything and it was all delicious! The company and the vibe of the night just added to it. Will be coming back again!
I really like this place! We got lucky and got a table without reservation in 10 minutes. If you want to eat their famous dish you'll need reservation because they only make it when you reserved.
I went again recently and the food is still amazing! Got to sit by the chef's table this time and it was an interesting experience. I would highly recommend this place if you're in town!
Excellent food! Each plate is small portion, but the final bill came out quite reasonable. I heard it's super hard to get a reservation, so at first we weren't even planning to go there. However, my friend showed up at 4:30pm and we were able to get a table before the dinner crowd (this was on a Saturday). We were asked to make sure we can finish before 6:30pm or something like that, which was totally enough time to enjoy our meal. So if you really want to eat here and don't think you can wait for months long reservation, try stopping in at 4:30pm.
I waited over a month for this reservation and I was so pleased. At first, hated my seat. Magda the hostess, sweet as pie, changed my seat so quickly and then Wow. We hit a home run. What a magical night I spent with my lovely lady on the town for her birthday. Victor was an amazing server and was phenomenal with knowledge of the food. The bus boys were so quick and probably the most attentive I've ever seen. I've been to some upscale places and the bussers don't compare to any other place I've been. My water glass was never ever empty and drink water so fast. Amazing time.
Hard to get a reservation? Yup, and understandable. The service ranks among the best in Chicago (especially at their price point), the food is outstanding. Very decent craft beer selection. Wish we had time to try their cocktails. Excellent experience and generously priced for what they deliver.
