Had a great time with my family. Everyone was very nice!! It was refreshing to have the employees be genuinely friendly. We were able to have nice conversations with several members of the staff. If the could keep it from raining next time we would appreciate that.
Great place to bring the family or friends. No entry fee, you can bring your own bags or container to put the (apples/peppers/tomatoes/eggplants/raspberries/pumpkins). They also have bags or boxes you can buy for cheap if you forgot your bags.
I saw a couple of people with their dogs, so I think you can bring your pets (I would call and ask first though, before you go)
They have hot food and music.
I love the clydesdale horse carriage ride.
I had a wonderful time picking apples with the family. The guides were friendly, the prices were reasonable, the apples were seriously the best apples I've ever eaten. We also got eggplant and other fresh picked fruits.
A good selection. Make sure you view their website ahead of time or call ahead to see what's in season. Great for apple and pepper picking.
I love this family owned, farm fresh fruit and vegetable heaven. It would have to be my favorite business in the county! We need more local food consumed and grown for the betterment of our bodies, including allergies. Garwood Orchard makes homemade apple donuts that beat all others. I have been admiring their food, farm, family, and fresh smells since 1980. They have a festival that I have bought unique presents for self and others since the beginning. They never disappoint me!
Garwoods is an awesome place to visit. Everything is locally grown and fresh.
They make there own apple cider and baked goods including donuts.
You can also pick your own apples or buy fresh picked from the store.
I always have a great time here with my family. We go at least once a year and come home with bags of apples, F.R.O.G jam and a couple apple cider doughnuts. Don't forget the doughnuts! Pick your own apples and and pumpkins and ride in horse drawn carts. Good fall fun.
Wonderful, wonderful apples!! Have never picked veggies but they look great too. They do a great job keeping the shuttles moving so you don't have to wait long for a ride out or back. Wait in line for the donuts, they are worth it!! My only qualm is they could use some rearranging and more organization in the shop - it's a complete madhouse no matter when you go.
Had a great tour guide taking us out to the U-pick.. Apples, donuts, Apple cider slushy are all delicious!!! And had to pick up pumpkins, corn and 5-6 bales of straw for our bonfire nights at home!!! We went mid week to avoid big crowds and it was very enjoyable! :)
Expensive, expensive for low quality apples! Not worth the drive of an hour and a half from Illinois to buy these apples at $1.25 a lb. Yes, that's right at $1.25 a pound ..oh and they have other fruits as well (like blackberries for $3.25 a lb if you wish). Ridiculous prices for over injected hormone produce since the apples resemble the size of small melons. Plus the charge of the box and plastic bags to carry them in is outrageous. Did I mention that they also include the weight of the box when they're weighing your apples? Its a ripoff. Please don't go here. There are a lot other orchards with better apples at a reasonable price.
From Chicago and have been going to Indiana for years to go apple picking. Went to many different places and most have become too commercial and are overpriced. We have decided that Garwood is the only place we want to keep going back to. It's been at least a few years in a row now. Last year picked a TON of peppers and blackberries and raspberries. Went today for my first time at strawberry picking and it was amazing! The berries are huge and ripe and so tasty! The workers were all friendly and the prices are super reasonable. Will be returning soon for more farm fresh goodies. It's definitely worth the 40 mile drive!
