  We adopted a chicken from this shelter after the wonderful, knowledgeable and caring vets/staff spent a considerable amount of money and the necessary amount of time nursing her back to health prior to releasing to us for adoption. The adoption process was quick and easy. Regina George is now enjoying farm life :) We truly appreciate having such a professional and clean animal shelter with kind and compassionate staff in our area. Thank you FAS!!!

  I went in to the shelter on a Tuesday mid-day, and it seemed like everyone was to busy to help. There was our family and a group of mentally handicapped adults in there at the time, and that was literally it.
  They had gotten a parrot in that had no name tag and there was no info. about him. As there was no staff around, I was unable to tell them there were literally bugs crawling in this little parrots bowl. I decided to look at the dogs and come back to check on the parrot and staff. When I went back there were two ladies at the cage. I asked what the little guys name was-completely ignored me!! Okay, maybe they didn't hear; I asked "did you guys just get him in?" Clearly irritated one of the women awnsered yes, and shot me the same irritated glare. They proceeded to ask us to leave the adoption area, that's open to the public, so one of the women could hang a divider in his cage. Seemed odd, but we did. As we watched, they never addressed the food bowl and again ignored us as they left the room!
  
  I sure hope your staff found those bugs in that little parrots food. I may have even given him a nice home- with fresh, healthy, bug free food and water; but was never given the opportunity to even inquire about the parrots story.
  
  I will definitely not be making donations to your facility again.

  Foothills Animal Shelter was nothing but an excellent experience. Everyone who works or volunteers there is friendly, helpful, and clearly love the dogs that come through their door. I adopted Mars (formerly Buster), whom the staff knew well. The staff was very knowledgeable and gave great advice regarding Mars and he is absolutely thriving. I would encourage anyone looking for a dog to adopt from a shelter, and this is a great shelter to do just that.

  This was one of the best animal shelters I had gone to. Was looking for a special needs dog and found a wonderful little guy. They give you a free vet visit and a list of participants in your local area. I adopted my boy at Foothills but took him to a vet in DU area, PETS ON BROADWAY. EXCELLENT experience all the way around!

  I had a generally good experience here. I adopted a 5 year old black lab here who is very healthy and happy and a great dog. She is a great fit for us and we love her. They were able to give us a lot of good info on her from the previous owners. Sometimes the kennels seem a little dirty and they definitely need more volunteers. Otherwise I had good experiences when I've come here. I wish they'd keep their guinea pigs in better cages though.

  I'd literally give it 0 stars if I could. They did not know anything about the dog I just adopted. They said he was a stray. An obese stray!?! Well, we had other choices to look at but because their so called policies we couldn't adopt any other dogs because we had a cat and children but we could adopt a stray? I mentioned this and got an ear full of how the dogs have to pass their intake questionnaire. Priorities. 170 dollars later we have a sweet sickly possibly 3 year old lab.
  
  We took him home because we loved how awesomely sweet he was with all of us and knew we could give him a big yard to play in, walk him at least 2 times a day a mile each or more.
  
  Brought him home and the gas could clear the room, he has runny stools, and on top of it all we noticed he has red eyes.
  
  They do not have a vet look at them (a paper they actually did not show me but due diligence I read through the paperwork), they have you sign a waiver saying they are not responsible for a sick dog or other things like behaviour issues. So, by all means we should have been given a chance to meet the 10 month old pet but because he failed with one person, an adult, not taken home and had issues with a child. Oh and that cute puppy was going for 500 dollarssame as if we had found a breeder.
  
  So, we will most likely go to an emergency vet to see what truly is going on.
  
  We will most likely never go to this facility again. We will probably go to (gulp) a breedersome of our friends and families are getting into it, probably for these reasons.
  
  Jefferson county should be more responsible and caring to these animals and the families who want to care for an animal. If these restrictions were in place when we got our last family member 13 years ago we would never have gotten him.

  At least they help the poor animals and people who are looking for a pet to be loved and get love. I look forward to seeing the animals there.❣🐶🐰🐱🐹

  Last year I had to surrender my bog because she kept barking and it was making my stupid Neighbors mad when I asked the Jefferson County Sheriff's Animal control officer what's a good no kill shelter she suggested this shelter so I took her and surrendered her when I called a week later to see how she was doing the lady on the that answered the phone told me oh she was euthanized and hung up on me with no remorse or anything she was only there for one week they didn't even try to work with her. I'm all for people adopting dogs out of shelters but if a shelter can't even work with a dog that's only been there for a week that raises some red flags in my book.

  I have mixed feelings about this shelter. I do believe that Foothills takes good care of the animals, and I don't want to dissuade anyone who finds their perfect pet here.
  
  My biggest problem was that it was worryingly easy to adopt a pet. When we picked out a dog, we went to the front counter, filled out some light paperwork and answered one or two basic questions. While this might sound like the opposite of a problem, not all adopters are actually going to be responsible pet owners or even have good intentions.
  
  This shelter has a very high turnover rate, and they often don't know much about a pet before adopting it out. They also only allows holds of one day for a $15 dollar fee, so it can be difficult to get to know a pet before adoption. Additionally, there is no "trial period" or period in which you can take the animal home to make sure it gets along with other pets and young kids. When you adopt a pet, you could be taking up to a $500 risk if the pet doesn't work out.

  I have donated food and if an animal wanders on our street I make sure they get to a safe place because we are a few yards off Kipling if they don't have collars I have. Foothills check for. a chip, their place is clean and the animals 💓 are well taken care of. They can always use unopened food.

  A really clean and maintained shelter. We got a beautiful kitten that is now a year old. Super friendly atmosphere. Spent as much time as we needed.

  Worst dog rescue I have been too. Have had three bad experiences here now and will never go back. They care less about the dogs going to good homes and more about money. Today they closed early and kicked myself and another couple out of the building instead of letting either of us adopt a dog we were eager to take home. They then told us we could not put the dogs on hold because they had a mandatory event they had to be at, and we could not call in the morning to place the dogs on hold and had to be there in person. The people also have very little experience with dogs and discussing if they would actually be a good fit for a home.

  I just got my pup neutered here and it was a great experience. They are so cheap and do great work, the people there obviously love what they do.
  They even cut my dogs nails while he was under, that was a nice surprise (As he hates letting us do it so it often goes awhile between trims.)
  I highly recommend this shelter if you need your animal spayed/neutered.
