I've been to this place three times. Both the service and food are great. The flavors are just wonderful. My favorite place to eat in San Diego so far.

Life changing cuisine. Delicious in a way I would not have thought possible. Don't let the short menu fool you, with food this good you don't need a ton of choices.

Great food in cozy atmosphere. Flavors of East Africa is a must if you're in the area. The jerk chicken and sambusas are great.

Authentic East African food. Good service. Decor is a little drab. Parking is a bit challenging in this area. Def check them out at local farmers markets in San Diego.

They made me some stuff ( can't think of the name).but it was like a white grit. And it was dry hard and old I paid 15 dollars for a plate of beef stew and it was only 3 small bite size pieces in my plate. Sorry but I won't be going back.

The waitress was super nice and the Mbavu was one of the best things I've ever had. The whole plate was amazing. I was also there with a very picky eater and he loved his whole plate. It was THAT good.

I want to give this restaurant a good review but unfortunately cannot. I have eaten at this restaurant twice and both times had the same issue. The first time ordering I got the Mbuzi goat. The second, I got the lamb curry. In both instances the meat was WAY overcooked. This is not simply the opinion of someone who prefers medium rare (I do) meat and received it well done. The lamb curry featured a lamb shank about half of which had the consistency of beef jerky (literally this is no exaggeration). The mbuzi goat I had had the same issue. I also thought my wife's jerk chicken was on the dry side as well (although not reaching the consistency of jerky). I received the food through Amazon delivery so I do not know if in_house service has the same issue. That being said the seasoning and flavors of the dishes were outstanding. I really liked the sides and the sambusas were outstanding. This is too bad because the overcooked state of the meat left it unsuitable to be served to the public. Had I been at the restaurant I would have sent it back to the kitchen. I have never sent a plate back to the kitchen when dining at a restaurant.

I don't know one African cuisine from another, but I know that this place is exploding with flavor. They have a unique herbed black iced tea. They have lots of vegetarian options.. Their jerk chicken is great. I especially love the rice here. Sometimes when something "comes with rice," it's just plane white rice. I was pleasantly surprised when my rice was very flavorful, like a good biriyani. I have also eaten at their stand at the Hillcrest farmer's market, and it's also very good. This is a must-try for anyone who likes interesting flavors..

Food brought to table cold. We were only customer. Once inform, plates were warmed. Brought to question freshness of food. It was tasty. No side affects. Generally service was good.

Great food, prices and atmosphere. Traditional preparations mixed with some "cali-modern-mashups"

At SDSU Farmers Market FoEA: $10 gets you sweet jerk chicken accompanied by hearty servings of sides & rice. The sukumi and dengu are delightful go-alongs. Everything is tasty and filling. Now a Thursday ritual.

My favorite items here are the Sambusa (appetizers), Oxtail and Mbuzi Choma. Hearty plates very different, but delicious. You have to be a little adventurous, but this offers something traditional and authentic in an approachable way. I will say the food was a little better seasoned in their old location. Don't know if they have changed cooks. But still worth trying at least once.
