the front desk was super helpful night time staff was super helpful perfect amount of blankets. the showers are open and people will gladly help you pick up the soap.
I did 6 months on the compound and 4 months in the SHU. The guards are the trashiest trailer scum you've ever met. The warden is incompetent and the Lts are vindictive idiots with no clue. The warden steals the inmate trust fund money so there are no microwaves.
They've always been very courteous and professional on my visits to an inmate. Yes they have to be extremely cautious and practice every means of my protection and their protection during the processing. You basically can do as you will while visitation is going on. I enjoyed my visit there as I have been there about 5 times. It is prison it's not a daycare center for adults you do earn your privileges as in life we all learn and earn our privileges.
I am a public defender and I was very skeptical and anti Bureau before I was authorized a tour as part of a project with other lawyers which I cannot disclose. But I tell you what I discover. The inmates in the institution are way pampered and many lie about it to their family members out of needs for money to gamble, etc. Visiting is a privilege. All security or health issues are attended first over any visiting or other privileges. And there are MANY issues. Of course security concerns cannot be disclosed to the public so when they say is over, people want an explanation and since it can't be given then people call them rude. Yes there are one or two rude people like anywhere else. But working there for more than a month I will turn more than rude, so I think these people do the heck of a job.
For visiting your best way is to use a sports bra, absolutely no metals, no watch, no electronics, no head covers or hats, and dress with the less intent to look sexy. No tight clothing, no see through or too short clothing, no beach flip flops and leave everything else in your car. Arrive promptly at 8am, fill out complete document and turn in with non expired and non broken visible US drivers license or US passport. YES, US territories licenses are good. YES, PR is a US territory. The guards DO NOT attack inmates AT ALL. I thought so too but then realized this is not the movies. My time there was mostly inconspicuous, so most employees didn't really know I was a lawyer other than the higher admins. When an inmate is sent to the hole, in reality is just another hotel but with a private shower. Don't let your family members tell you wrong. I was there for a whole month.
arrived at 9:30 was told at 10:00 everyone had to leave for an hour and come back , cause they had count at 11:00 .. made it back didn't get to see inmate until 1:30 visit over at 3:00
I loved my stay at Coleman did 5 years ate like a king. I had my salad tossed daily. ðŸ¤
Three square meals a bed and chance to meat and make new friends in your room you have nightly sleep overs. Free medical and a full service recreation department. Security is top of the line. Free education
Nice clean facility. No phone, no pool and no pets allowed. Only has weekly maid service. All three meals per day are included, served cafeteria style. Individual rooms are very secure, they even have steel barred doors! Has on-site gym facilities, no trainer though. Basketball court too. Both are inside and secure from anyone outside. Air conditioned comfort was excellent but lacked individual room controls. Sleep was just ok; the lights were automatically turned off nitely, but the other occupants could be a bit noisy sometimes. The room to room sound was bothersome. Lastly, has in-room toilet and sink, but no shower or bath. Has common showers close by though. Sharing the shower with a neighbor grew to be fun. Who knew?
My brother, Jeb said I'll be going back there soon.
Keep in touch!
The officers in charge are rude and incompetent. I didn't have an inderwire bra but the clasps were setting off the metal detectors. After waiting 3 hours i was told to come back with a different bra. Total bs. How do i know what bra won't set off the detectors? Drove 4 hours to visit my nephew. Very sad.
