Great place for beginners and vets alike. My wife learned how to snowboard here, the instructors are fantastic. The lodge offers a good selection of beers and the food is very good as well. Gets a little busy on weekends but the longest wait I experienced was 10 minutes. Also if you like to ski or ride at night this is the place to do it, they close at 10:30pm!

I've been hearing about this place for 20 years, but never made the trip. Finally took my kids there for their second ever day trip, and everyone loved it. The bunny hill is great, except they really need some cargo netting to stop runaway newbies like my daughter from taking out people waiting on the lift line. The rest of the mountain, or at least as much of it as I got a chance to ski, was very nice. Much better conditions than the more southern mountains in the state, and given it was President's Day weekend, we really couldn't complain about the crowds. I read a lot about slow lifts, and they are, but it's all part of the experience. Looking forward to heading back soon.

Elk is a lovely mountain with some great trails. Its actually one of my favorites in the area. Having said that, let me explain why I'm rating them with 1 star. When out comes to night skiing, elk does not do all that it could to make the skiing experience awesome. I work during the day, so i mainly ski elk at night. I get out of work early enough to get there just before four. However, elk will not sell a night ski pass even a minute before 4pm. So I'm sitting around waiting instead of skiing. Which brings me to my second point. Elk closes some of its best trails (in my opinion) at night. If you start right at four you can ski one or two of them at most before they close them. That makes sense in December when it's dark before five, but in March they could leave those trails open a little longer for their customer's enjoyment. So consider those two points together. I'm at the mountain 20 minutes early, but i can't buy a ticket yet. So i spend those twenty minutes fuming as i think about how my favorite trails are open but by the time i can start skiing they wont be, and the rest of the night i will be limited to just the few trails they have lit . Next time i will spend those twenty minutes driving the extra distance to greek peak.

I always have a great time skiing here. Start early on very well groomed trails . Plenty of lifts to get you to the top and trails for everyone , even a snowboard park. Go inside the lodge to warm up and grab a bite to eat or even enjoy an adult beverage, if your of age that is. A cool store for that equipment you forgot to pack and affordable rentals. This is a must go to place

Good trails, grooming and snowmaking was good after several days of rain. Staff is friendly and you can get your skis tuned or repaired. Their cafeteria food is overpriced with $5.50 for a very small bowl of soup as an example. You can bring your own snacks as they have a picnic area. I recommend this mountain as one of the best places to ski in PA. They do have a very old double chair in front of the lodge. It's rough getting on the chair. The other side of the mountain has a quad chair which is not high speed but is comfortable. The old lifts are the detriment of skiing here. Lift attendants do a good job.

The rain stopped, the sun came out, bits of blue sky peeked through, a light breeze whooshed by, the lines to buy tickets and get on the lifts were short, perused the vendor tents, and we had a lovely time.

My favorite thing about this mountain that makes it stand out is the night skiing. It's so peaceful and nice. Not too much of it on the mountains I go to so I love coming here and staying until late at night.

Growing up in New England, PA was never on my map as a ski destination. But marrying into a tri state family has broadened my horizons! Honestly, Elk is a fantastic family mountain and a perfect place for kids to learn how to ski. The majority of their trails are not overly challenging, but if you want to fall, you do have a couple options. They do a great job of making snow and grooming, so you're just about guaranteed a good day of skiing in most every condition. The lodge leaves much to be desired and the lifts are all pretty slow, but all-in-all this is a great place to ski with the kids.

My family and I ski regularly at Elk. It's our favorite place. Best skiing experience around for us. Great trails. Beautiful views. A nice escape. I hesitated and almost gave 4 stars and would have given 4.5 but decided to just rate the skiing (5 star) rather than the amenities. I think the lodge cafeteria is average at bestmaybe lower. The restaurant/bar is OK. I just wish Elk would do something to improve some aspect of the experience (faster lifts, better lodge or more lit trails at night, better season pass pricing) to make for a better value for the money. Granted, non-skiing aspects are not why we go but I would feel better about the price if something improved. Nevertheless, 5 star skiing for our area.
