This was the 1st time that I have eaten at El Charro Cafe. The service was good and the wait staff was nice and friendly. The food was good. The steak was very good grass fed beef, and the chicken was also very good. The beans and rice that are sides were bland and lacking flavor that is found at other Sonoran style Mexican restaurants.
We just moved into the area & have ordered to go from here several times. They have yet to get any of the orders right, and to add insult to injury, they are over-priced. Perhaps one issue is that the staff can't hear very well while on the phone when you're ordering. Be prepared to say your name at least 3 or 4 times. Unfortunately, even when they repeat the order back to you correctly after much strain & back and forth, the kitchen won't get it right, so it's not just a phone issue. Tonight is no exception. I ordered chicken tacos and a bean burrito. They said it would be 25 to 30 minutes. I showed up after 25 minutes and told them I was there to pick it up. About 15 minutes after I arrived I went to check on it again. They acted like they had forgotten about it. So now I get to take my cold chicken tacos and bean burrito home after paying 25 bucks for it. So much room for improvement.
Addendum: not sure why they bother asking if you want shredded or grilled chicken in your tacos, because whatever you request, they'll give you the one you didn't ask for.
Maybe they think it's funny? We give up.
Love this place! The food is great and the service even better. Every time we come to Tucson we have to stop at El Charro for the chimichanga! This time I was introduced to the cheese crisps and oh my goodness-they're amazing! If you like cheese, get the cheese crisps, you can thank me later. Always a ask for Rosa as your server, she's probably the sweetest and most kind human being I've ever come across. Oh and don't forget to order "Tucson's best margarita"!
One of the oldest restaurants in Tucson. Still panned by the original family. Food is great. There are some dishes that are hard to find anywhere else.
Average Mexican food. The rice was bland and so were the tacos. The salsa that came with the chips was like spicy marinara sauce that should have been paired with fettuccine. The staff was very nice and helpful.
Saturday 26 2017 we have our son wedding and we enjoyed the service from el Charro Cafe. It was so excellent, Ruben and the girl that helped him, were professional and well educated. It was very fast clean up and very very friendly. Special thanks to the manager and the chef! They deserve Michelin Five star rating! I will highly recommend them to all my friends and family! Thank you thank you so much! Made my son's wedding day so memorable!
Food is always good. My order was mixed up and they came up with a creative solution that meant I did not have 2 sit without eating with my party. I was happy.
Authentic food. Fast service. Nice atmosphere.
This was our second time here and the food has been consistently plentiful and very good. The atmosphere is contemporary and the wait staff very attentive. Lots of nice warm chips and hot, spicy salsa. Wife had veggie burro that she enjoyed and I had a shredded beef burrito. It had lots of beef, no bean or rice filler, and was delicious. I particularly liked the tangy green sauce. Came with rice and beans that were good if unspectacular.
Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Happy hour pricing on margarita and guacamole. Many vegetarian options on the menu. Generous portions. Food was very good.
The tropical pescado fish portion was small set on a bed of rice. It was not well suited for the 17.00 price. It came with a very small bowl of beans. The only good thing besides the small portions was the taste.
