Had a great lunch in the patio today. I had steak and enchiladas, my friends had the tamales and more enchiladas. Meals were yummy and the beer cold. A Tucson local favorite. Enjoy.
We had one in a wheel chair and they opened the patio area in back to accommodate us. Wait staff were great! Food good!
Gluten-Free and Vegan Friendly! We went there last night with my family and BF. We had been looking for an authentic mexican restaurant in Tucson and this was the place! We sat in the basement private room where you could feel the history oozing from the brick and lava rock walls. We were all SO impressed! I had the vegan fajitas and our waiter was SO helpful. I have a severe allergy to gluten and dairy and he took such great care to make sure I ordered something that was safe. All of his recommendations were spot on! The service was fast despite a estimated 45 minute wait to get it! we knew it had to be good. We are already planning our next family outing there next! And will definitely make reservations and request our historical basement dinning. Thank you!
Great service! Awesome food! I parked directly in front, walked in, served immediately, not rushed, (with two year old) good salsa and tamales! I will come back.
Delicious chicken enchiladas - wow!!! Love the vibe and decor. So many magnificent details to peek at throughout the entire establishment. I get excited to go there everytime.
Probably the worst Mexican restaurant ever. Had a long wait but that was ok. Three of us went to bar to wait for a table, had 5 drinks for $56 not including tip. The restaurant was extremely noisy. Had a hard time even having a conversation at dinner. The waiter talked so fast and with the noise it was hard to understand him. Two of us ordered tacos. The shells were burned and they did not even put cheese or onion on them. Very bland. Had a cheese crisp before dinner. It was OK, but sure not what we have come to expect in Tucson. Would not go back or ever recommend. I suggest finding a small Mexican place as we have found the food at these establishments is far superior.
I was very excited to try this place after a friend gave a rave review. Unfortunately it was the worst customer service and overall experience I've had in a long time. It was busy, which is fine - we don't mind waiting. But after ordering something based on the waitress' recommendation, when the food finally arrived it was the wrong order and she made me feel like somehow it was my fault. They did rush the order which was nice but after ordering green sauce, my chimichanga had none and was sub-par at best. Which was a huge disappointment since that's what this place is known for. Probably figuring she wasn't getting a good tip, our waitress was very rude and short with us. Luckily we had to leave shortly after to get to a concert. Unfortunately in a rush to leave I left my sweatshirt there. We called the next morning to see if it was left there. They didn't really know and said they'd call back. They didn't so we had to stop by on our way out of town. Again, they were very short with us about it. Pretty bummed being out $40 for the dinner and $25 for my sweatshirt. I hope this was just an off night for them, but even so - you should never treat paying customers like that. I'd give 0 stars if I could.
Very neat place. House turned into a restaurant while retaining it's home feel. Food was good, and they offer a selection that is not available ANY where else. Inquire about it. Wife had it and said it was pretty good.
OK food, lousy service. No hostess on dutyI entered and walked around the restaurant looking for any employee who could help me. Finally found a guy and he was petty forceful in telling me to go outside and wait. Five minutes later the hostess showed up. She seated me and I waited seven more minutes for the waitress to discover me. After sitting waiting for her, she almost tried to tell me I'd missed happy hour drink prices by a minute, but that didn't fly. Never brought any chips and salsa. When I looked aground and realized everyone else had them, I asked for some. Waitress brought my dinner first, then told me she'd go get chips. Told her it was too late for an appetizer, and besides, I'd rather have a fork so I could eat my dinner (she never brought utensils).
Not really pleased with my visit. Tip will reflect that. Food was OK, though. Not recommended overall.
Absolutely perfect experience! We were seated right away ave the staff was very attentive and friendly, consistently kept our drinks full which I love. The food was incredible and although we all got very different dishes all of them were amazing! I would highly recommend El Charro to anyone wanting an amazing Mexican food experience.
Most excellent meal - the red and green sauce were superb with appropriate heat. Wait staff, well everyone was friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to go.
Looking for a lot of options, variety, vegetarian and gluten free options? This is the place. We often take out of town visitors here because they have something for everyone. The Summer menu specials are great for a quick light meal during the heat of the summer. They make a great margarita and have excellent tea. I miss their old locations but their classic downtown location is great. Evenings their is usually a wait so download the Nowait app to get in line before you get there.
Amazing food and staff! Our waitress Aubrey was super sweet and on top of her orders. I will definitely be going back soon!
Loved it! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was charming & fun. The staff were obviously all team players, super sweet & I'm so glad I saw them in the History magazine at the airport. This building is interesting & we really liked the decor.
