The first time I dinner at El Adobe was in 1965. The place was a lot smaller then, but they have kept the same tradition of good food and great service.

Historical Mexican restaurant with great food and architecture. A bit pricey but worth it. Downtown with Mission San Juan Capistrano at end of street.

A little long wait time, but well worth it. The president choice platter was delicious and filling. Fried ice cream is awesome.
Staff friendly, manages time well, food gets out fast.
I'd be coming back in the future

The Hostess, Diana, was very friendly and super nice. We sat at the bar and gave 3 stars because took 1/2 hour to get flautas appetizer, which, when got them, were perfect - not over fried and flavorful, highly recommend. However; should not have taken that long when both restaurant and bar not full.

My family had a great meal at El Adobe. Everything was perfect. We were seated in the jail cell/cellar, which made a great and unique experience. Be sure to have reservations, as they always seem busy.

I came here for a wedding and really loved the ambience. You can have your ceremony and reception here, and it's really adorable. The food is delicious here, specifically the Caesar salad and prime rib. The music was quite loud and nobody came in to tell us to turn it down. The space is rather large and can accommodate groups of many sizes.

This has been my family's favorite go to when we go out for drinks or dinner for years. Unfortunately, this past weekend changed that for good. We had family visiting from another country and we were so excited to share El Adobe with them. The lady working the bar was extremely rude, she was clearly busy and perhaps understaffed, but that is no reason to be downright rude to PAYING customers. She was completely and visibly put off by everything about us coming in. While she attempted to make up for it by the end of our visit by chatting about herself, she couldn't erase the unprofessional and unwelcoming impression she left on my family. I have always had excellent service at El Adobe until now and honestly, I won't be back because of this woman.

The food here has always been pretty good, albeit pricey. I've never had a problem with paying for good food. In fact, the Chile Verde I had last time was phenomenal. The one thing I do have a problem with though, is pure laziness. As a former restaurant manager it really pisses me off when I see it. So imagine my ire when I watch two employees leaning against the hostess stand just watching my wife struggling to get through the front door with our baby in his car seat. I was several steps behind her as I had been signing the check. After I had paid $60 for the two of us to eat Mexican food this left a horrible taste in my mouth. I won't be back. There is too much fantastic Mexican food in San Juan Capistrano (cheaper too) to return somewhere that the employees won't even open the door for you.

My husband djed here and it was an awesome place for an event. The staff was helpful, polite and pleasant. Food was ahmazing. Not like authentic -authentic Mexican (because it wasn't spicey) but it was enough to where everyone enjoyed it. Really nice private party space. The roof stayed open and although no stars it was fresh and beautiful.

Great food and service. Interesting historic adobe building converted into a restaurant and event venue. Definitely a destination place if you are a tourist. Prices are a bit high, but the quality is always good.

Love the area it is in. Thought it was so cool this was Nixon's favorite Mexican restaurant at the Western White House. Food is decently priced and delicious. Parking is awful and there seems to always be a wedding happening.

Other than that, I'd suggest this place if you have some time to enjoy historic SJC.

Really delicious Mexican food here, and it's said to be Richard Nixon's favorite restaurant in the area not sure the full history there. Get the tableside guacamole. I like that they ask if you want mild, medium or hot on the guac. We went with hot and it was indeed zippy. Everyone's entree at the table was great, I highly recommend some of the specialty menu items. They get docked one star for having a happy hour menu at the table but then telling us they only serving happy hour deals in the bar when we tried to order from it.
