Don't come to San Diego without experiencing the world famous Cowboy Star steakhouse. I used to have to drive to Mastro's in Beverly Hills to have an uber excellent steak. NO MORE!

Came here with a group but we got very individual attention. Our server Jeromy is awesome, very knowledgeable about the food, the drinks, and very humorous at the same time. He can take a joke. Would have him every time.

I've been multiple times and notice that certain steaks are hit or miss for me. I love the wagyu skirt steak and ribeye. While the Hokkaido steak and aged rib eye were misses. The Hokkaido as explained by my friend is "a sponge soaked in fat", and the aged ribeye is a bit too dry. Mac and cheese and brussel sprouts sides are delicious, but the Oscar style was a waste of money. Fried beef tongue is delicious, rarely do you see beef tongue served like that. Cocktails overall are great.

Great atmosphere, and food is good. However a-little to trendy (fancy dishes) for me with respect to a steakhouse. When I go to a good steakhouse I expect a good assortment of good steaks and side dishes, and this restaurant has a good amount of choices but they are for the more adventurous such as Bone-Marrow that you scoop out of the bone. Overall a great restaurant but understand that they have a menu for the person who likes a broader palette, but if you are looking for the typical steakhouse you might want to check the menu here first to ensure this place is for you. Beautiful restaurant and woodwork inside the restaurant is amazing.

Great food, service and atmosphere. I sat at the Chef's "Bar" and was able to watch my food being prepared, I loved it. I had the appetizer Steak Tartare, for the main course I had the Wagyu Skirt Steak and finally topped it all off with the bread pudding. All of it was amazing but the Skirt Steak is one of the best I've ever had.

Ahhhh what can I say, the ambiance is there, the music is great and sophisticated but old school and the food was yummy! Pricey but worth it, and l-o-v-e-l-y staff!

I ate here in 2015 and I have to say, it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The food and service was excellent. I would highly recommend and I will go back. It is expensive, though. Be prepared to spend at least $250 for a family of 4.

Sat at the counter and had excellent service and interaction with the chefs and staff. They were awesome and food was delicious. Two of us had the dry aged ribeye and another had the bison fillet. We had a great time.

It's been a while since I had the pleasure of stopping by Cowboy star. Did just that a few days ago and felt like coming home! Garth is one of the best bartenders in town and makes a mean whiskey cocktail. Not to mention he is well skilled at the art of bartender/guest conversations. I couldn't resist the Heirloom Carrots with burrata ice cream, and it was perfect. The carrots were cooked just right and the burrata ice cream added a great balance to the saltiness of cracklings and sweetness of the carrots. Highly recommend getting them while they are still on the menu.
Have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The service, food, and drinks are exceptional. My favorites are the steak tartar and steak frites and any of the cocktails you cannot go wrong with. The wine selection is very good as well and they have a lot of local beers on tap too. Love sitting at the bar and conversing with the bartenders. A hidden gem in San Diego!response / report this review -

Avoid. Took 40 minutes even to order food (we even had to ask) and I had to change my order to a to go box because it was over 2 hours for us to get served. Food was expensive and didn't taste good. Oysters were smothered in lemon sauce, steak with $22 side smelled horrible so I ended up tossing it, etc.

I found this restaurant rather serendipitously through San Diego Restaurant Week. Not knowing what to expect, I was completely blown away by the food. They serve some of the best steaks I've ever had, and I'm originally from Texas. The service is quietly elegant and low key. I go back over and over again when possible. If I want to impress out of town guests, I take them here.
