Today we went to chrysalis and our tasting host, Chase, talked for about 40-50mins, most of it was impertinent information about the taste of the wine. It was a mixture of his personal experiences and things the winery would like to build out on the property. The tasting started off on an awkward note when chase made a comment about being in a fraternity for opera singers, which felt as if he was attempting to make a joke about homosexuality. We all felt uncomfortable. In the middle of the tasting and at the end he pressured everybody to sign up for a membership, holding us until past the point the cashiers were serving glasses or opening bottles. We were informed after we had already purchased a bottle, which was very disappointing. We have been to this winery before and it has never been an issue, but this time left a bad taste. Due to Chase's tasting, we are unsure if we will come back.

If the review was purely based off of the wine, I would give it five stars. The wine is delicious however the customer service is absolutely terrible. The first time I went there with a friend, we had to wait at the front nobody showed us where to go so we finally mozied our way to the bar and a lady gave us our glasses and made us wait on her son and his girlfriend. They chatted the entire time and completely ruined the tasting experience. She would pour her sons glass first and the tasting took at least 45 minutes. She poorly explained the wine club so we purchased it and come to find out was not what we expected so we asked for a refund. Didn't get a call from a manager until about a month later. The second time I went with a different friend and the customer service was even more terrible if you can imagine that. Waited for at least 10 to 15 minutes for someone to even get our attention to serve us. The lady behind the bar said she was out of it because she was on pain meds?? The whole experience was really bizarre. You definitely need an overhaul on your employees and customer service. It's unfortunate because the views in the wine are really good but nothing else.

Lovely setting with very good whites and some decent reds. Very interest and Chase was great at pouring and explaining everything.

Was invited by a member to do a wine tasting while she picked up her wine. Brought our kids as they had no school today. Did our tasting while the kids ate their lunch outside. The kids asked if they could explore the property and we were told by staff that was fine if they did not bother anyone. We were stopped by other patrons to tell us how well behaved our children were. Staff member Jeremy ran out and berated my friend, who is actually a member, to yell that our kids were outside approved bounds. She immediately went to get the kids and gave them new boundaries to stay inside. Again Jeremy ran out and yelled the kids aren't allowed OFF THE LAWN and other wineries don't allow kids at all. My friend canceled her membership which didn't seem to bother Jeremy in the least. Wine is average or below to begin with. I wouldn't be willingly chasing members off with so much competition in the area. Nice day that Jeremy almost ruined. He needs customer service classes but too late to get me to join or get my friend back. My advice, pick somewhere else. Plenty of amazing wineries in the area. Can't believe any of the 5 star reviews are real.

The facility was absolutely stunning, unfortunately the staff was very rude and pretentious. I am by far no wine expert but typically a couple times a month a few friends and myself get togeather and drive and hour west of the city and try to do 2-3 wineries. I had high expectations after the couple we started at and had the intent to do a tasting. When we arrived no one greeted us, when we mentioned our intent to do a tasting for 3 people the female behind the counter rolled her eyes and told us to wait in a rude manner. I will never go back here again and wouldn't recommend it to others.

One of our favorite wineries in NoVa. They make the Norton wines very well, try the Estate Bottled, or Shitz and Giggels. Spacious and clean indoor area, even nicer outdoor area with tables and chairs in sun or shade. They have little pavilions good for parties also. Clean and sharp appearance all the way around.

Awesome place, awesome people and great wine. The staff is quick to remember customers and their preferences. Their red wine (particularly Norton estate) is superb and the sweet whites are fun.

I want to love this place, but unfortunately after four attempts I will not return. Their building/location is great. We liked their wine fairly well. BUT the experience with the staff has always been a huge disappointment.

This place is very beautiful; a view like this is hard to find in Northern VA. The wine selections were pretty good. My friend and I were looking for a semi-sweet red wine and were able to find one under $30 to share. I just love coming here on a warm, bright Sunday afternoon; it's very pleasant.

I love the Norton Loxley Reserve and the Viognier. I'm a Napa Valley girl, and have tasted a lot of wine - am picky. Also, I have never had an unpleasant experience with the staff, so have no idea what the 2 negative reviews were about. Maybe the reviewers presented themselves badly?

Great place, nice 360 natural view, Small variety of wine but enough, all price ranges from $17, highly recommended this winery, worth it to visit.

Winery: Building sits on top of a hill giving panoramic views. The grapes are grown on property but not visible. A nice and clean facility. It was empty but it was a Tuesday afternoon. Lots of seating around the building and some shaded seats available.

Staff: the young lady that helped us was pleasant. She had very little experience opening wine. The management would be wise to teach those that open the bottles, how to open the bottles. She chipped the first bottle she attempted to open. We asked about a Viognier as it is a popular varietal in VA. She said that it was reserved for VIP members. Kind of a turn off that we weren't "VIP" enough to have the chance to order what we wanted.

Wine: We had the Albarino. Pear flavors. Clean finish. Slightly acidic. Pretty decent.

Overall a nice experience. Staff was the let down

The wines here are good. However, what really sets it apart is the staff. The tasting staff was phenomenal. They were very knowledgeable as well as being friendly. We wanted to spend the whole afternoon just tasting wine and visiting with the staff.

No one greeted us when we walked up to the counter next to the sign that says "sign up for tastings here," despite the fact that three staff members were standing there. It was our first time at the winery. After some time passed, a staff member finally came down and asked if anyone needed help. I raised my hand and she had us move down the counter for us pay. We had an indoor tasting. The wine left a lot to be desired for. We purchased one bottle but regretted contributing any more money to he winery after our checkout experience. They focus a lot on if you are a member or not. After the tasting we were walking around and selected a book to purchase as well. We were in mid conversation when a staff member working the register abruptly called us over to checkout. We weren't ready but given the lack of service coming in, we figured this may be our only opportunity. This staff member immediately asked us if we were members. Upon replying No, she was immediately annoyed and rude. She then told someone else that she always has time for members, and started helping them before she even finished assisting us with our purchase. The staff member slammed down our receipt and disregarded us completely. After paying and walking out the door, we agreed never to return.
