I was planning to take someone on a date in Asheville. I knew I wanted a steak, and I didn't want it from a chain. When this place popped up, the menu looked great, but I was nervous about the reviews. Thankfully, my date encouraged me to try it, even though he had never been there before either.

When we got there, I did wait a couple minutes at the host stand before being noticed. There were several patrons at the bar, a couple in a table in the back half, and a gentleman drinking wine by the bar. One of the people from the bar walked out and saw me and hollered that they had someone. It wasn't the best service, but I imagine they don't get much business because of the reviews, so they serve their regulars at the bar. While I was waiting, there was a server (Hannah?) who was straightening the back half. She ended up being our server.

My date asked what kind of whisky was served. "All kinds." He asked for an Evan Williams and she had to come back and say they did not have that. He got a Jack Daniels, but it was blonde, possibly had some water in it, which he did not request. He enjoyed it, though.

He ordered the chicken and I ordered the filet mignon . Both were incredible. My steak was absolutely delicious. I ordered it medium rare, because I wasn't sure if they would overcook it. They did - it came out just over medium, slightly more done than I would have liked. But the demi glace and the crispy outside, tender inside made up for it. The flavor was amazing. I did pay for a $4.50 sweet potato, which was a little much, but overall I had a great experience.

Our server made sure we had what we needed and the food was great. I want to encourage other reviewers to refrain from leaving 1 star reviews when they haven't visited - to leave a 1 star review and say that the other reviews kept you from visiting is damaging to a restaurant you've never tried.

There is definite room for improvement, but overall the atmosphere was romantic and the food was delicious. Thank you!

We took a party of 14 to celebrate our parents' 50th anniversary. We checked a week in advance to make sure they were able to accommodate us. When we arrived, there was one waitress who was nice but seemed very frazzled, even though there were probably less than 10 people in the entire restaurant on a Saturday night. They didn't have the prime rib sandwich or the salmon available. The fish and chips were room temp, all of the chicken clubs were tough and room temp, and the substitute for the salmon was a chicken breast that was too tough to cut. We sent that back but were afraid to order anything else because everyone was unhappy with the food. We were still charged for the chicken breast plate but they agreed to remove it from the check after we asked. We sat for almost an hour before the food arrived and at least two of the side orders were either missing or mixed up and they had to be prepared from the beginning. We never saw a manager, only the waitress. It was a very disappointing experience for what was supposed to be a happy occasion. I'm not sure why they needed notice and an advanced reservation from us when they were in no way prepared to accommodate our group.

    DO NOT EAT HERE!
My husband and I decided to try the Chop House while in Ashville but that was a big mistake. As the waitress took our order we both took notice that she was scratching/digging in her hair. I asked for a straw, and she returned with the straw without a paper cover and placed it directly on the table. I ordered the kale salad with a grilled shrimp skewer and my husband chose the chicken club after we were told they ran out of the prime rib sandwich.
The food arrives, my salad looked like a child made it. The fruit was simply placed in the middle of the bed of kale sitting on top.The kale was gritty when I took a bite. I looked closely and saw grits of dirt. The shrimp skewer smelled sour and didn't taste fresh.
My husband's club sandwich was bad as well. The club didn't have bacon, the lettuce was wilted. The sandwich would not amout to $5.00 anywhere else.
Maybe the drinks are good. We noticed other patrons sitting at the bar but only one other couple sitting in the dining area. The place looks nice but the experience was very bad. I usually don't write reviews but I felt the need to share.

I came in for the first time and loved everything about this place! The sunburst smoked trout dip is not only local, but very VERY good! I also had the creamy mashed potatoes and they were excellent as well! Service was great and so was the selection of local brews. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner out! I felt very accommodated.

Didn't even try to eat here with all the bad reviews. I'm scared to spend the money on bad food and horrible service.

The prime-rib sandwich sounded great, but wait, it's been taken off the menu (but only figuratively, because it was still on the printed menu). Ok, so I settled for the fish & chips what a disappointment. The fries were obviously frozen, as was the fish -- who knew fried fish would have a leathery batter? The tarter sauce was also straight from a squeeze-bottle. Being charged $13 for a meal that should have been about $7 doesn't sit well.

The dining space really over-promised their menu, because it looks very nice; only problem is that it was lit up like closing time and ruined any cozy ambiance they were aiming for. The only positive is that the bartender was very nice and attentive.

Do yourself a favor a walk a few blocks for some quality dining; literally anything else you find will be better.

We had an unbelievably bad experience. We were the only table in the restaurant on a Sunday evening, and the waitress took nearly ten minutes to greet our table. When she finally brought our bottle of wine, she set it on the table without uncorking it for us, and left us to do it ourselves - typically an unacceptable practice at a restaurant with $30+ entrees.

After waiting 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive (when we're the ONLY table in the restaurant), they brought 3 out of 4 plates to our table and announced that they were out of one the entrees we ordered. Instead of letting us know during the 45 minutes we waited, the waitress brought out all but one meal and only offered to make up for it with a dessert.

We sent the three plates back and requested a different entree for the fourth, so our whole group could eat together. The waitress reluctantly obliged. Once all four entrees finally came out (another 30 minutes later), it was clear that the original three steaks had been baking under warming lights and were far past well-done, despite being ordered medium rare. The fourth entree wasn't even the correct cut of steak.

We calmly explained our concerns to the waitress, and instead of even making an attempt to listen, she began using profanities and blamed us for the issue. Our group decided to leave without eating because the service was so poor.

The waitress chased us out of the restaurant carrying a water pitcher, flipped us off and screamed profanities out the restaurant door into the parking lot.

TLDR: Terrible customer experience. Do not waste your time or money.

I was having a business lunch with three others and the place was pretty empty. Once we received our meals, a man come over (might be a manager) and said "I don't mean to rush you" and then DID. Once he processed our checks, we never saw from him or anyone else again. Not what I would expect from a Chop House. The salad was good and that's why I give it TWO stars.
